One fun thing about the LC-A: the lens is wide enough you can do an arms length selfie

The last couple of times I was at this bar (2019 and 2020) the neon tubes were broken, and sadly, the sign no longer lit up. According to one of the bartenders the closest place to get it fixed was in Redding a long and winding two-lane road at least three hours away. The bartender also told me that the individual in Redding who fixes neon signs said that it wouldn't be worth it for him to travel back and forth between Redding and Eureka to fix just one sign. So it remains broken and unlit.
My scanner can be really uncooperative at times. I did kind of a crap job at scanning it (it's not actually that icky yellow tone. I'm so lazy.), but in the end, I love this 'Roid.
I need to buy a new one anyway. I'm thinking one of those multipurpose flatbed/neg scanners. I realize that the negative scans won't turn out as well as a dedicated negative scanner's scans would, but my technique for 120 neg scanning was killed by the demise of one scanner, so I need to be able to do that somehow. Anyone have any scanner recommendations? (I have more 120 negs sitting around - just waiting to be scanned - than I'd like. And also I'm pretty sure I didn't need to type the word "scan" and its various forms that many times.)
Who loves dive bars? I do! Yay Mr. Bing's. There were just so many photogs in there. It was kind of hilarious. That last D&S was kind of more massive than I expected. Not a bad thing, just unexpected.
Also? Whole first page of my stream? Instant film. Yay buddy.
Pacifica is just south of San Francisco on the Coast but feels somewhat isolated because it's separated by mountains to the north, south and east and the ocean to the west (you can see the mountains in the background). California Highway 1 runs through the town. I was just kind of wandering around down there and saw the car. The guy standing next to it is the owner of both the car and tavern. I told him I thought the car was really cool. Apparently, it's been shipped off (I think to one of the Scandinavian countries).

A rainy night in Chinatown always feels like a film noir set. Mirror-wet narrow streets lit as if a stage gaffer got drunk on power and Mai Tai's.
Tonight was one of those nights so I took the camera and wandered Grant Street in the rain. LiPo Lounge recently restored their 70 year old neon with the help of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development / SF Shines program.

431 Natoma Street. This bar is between 5th and 6th streets on Natoma. Natoma is more of an alley than a street and just a few years ago this part of Natoma was littered with homeless, alcoholics, junkies and assorted addicts. Sixth street might very well be the single most run-down street in San Francisco. That said, In just the past three years numerous tech companies moved into the neighborhood and the University of the Pacific (UOP) relocated its dental and pediatric clinics nearby, so the neighborhood is experiencing significant gentrification.
Miles on the wall.
The Owner of the bar. Great guy. Since 1970, when I was 12 years old (almost 13) I've traveled Interstate 5 (which runs the length of California, and the entire west coast) past this place about 25 miles (40 km) north of Redding and near a cove on Lake Shasta. Back then I got excited by their very cool neon signage. The joint also has a historic marker. I'd been here at least once, maybe a couple of times before just to photograph the neon signs. But this time I was with my buddy Wildman Bob (AKA The Wildman) on a road trip and we stopped in for a beer.

Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying, it'll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here...

Just got back from a wonderful 9 day roadtrip going from 100* in Borrego Springs to 27* with snow flurries at Coleville and Donner Summit…good to be home but already planning a return trip to Lone Pine next month…now comes the fun part of sifting through 829 pics taken with the 35mm and 575 with the iPhone…(lately, I prefer the iPhone)…
Inside the legendary Caribbean Club, where Key Largo nights spill into days. A barroom classic, bare feet on the tiles, cues chalked, friends gathered around the pool table under the glow of a Budweiser lamp. Old photos and fishing trophies line the wood-panel walls, stories layered as deep as the rum pours. A slice of authentic Keys life—laid-back, unpolished, and unforgettable.
The Lucky 13 was one of my favorite dive bars in San Francisco. It closed in 2020 so they could tear it down and build condos.
