Cruella De Vil Disney Villains Designer Collection Doll

Personal Photos - Deboxed - On Display Stand

Cruella De Vil has been fully deboxed, then replaced on her display stand. Her coat and accessories have been put back on. But her cigarette holder has been moved to her right hand. It is a more natural position, as she is holding her purse in her left hand. Her skirt is partially open, so show her legs, as she was when boxed.

Walker Art Center Library Display Case, May 2008

The Little Man Press

These items from the collection of Flora archivist Barbara Economon feature rare chapbooks with Flora woodcuts, a narrative chronicle, original pencil sketches, and vintage Little Man ephemera.

Little Man Press independently published a series of letterpress booklets that Flora designed and illustrated from 1939 to 1942. These publications were printed at home in Cincinnati in small runs of 125 to 400 copies. Flora’s collaborator was the author Robert Lowry.

Designed by the Walker Art Center's Visual Resources Specialist, Barbara Economon, with the assistance of Librarian Rosemary Furtak & amp; Shannon Klug.

Blazer Exhibits & Events has created many backlit units such as this for JDSU. These backlit displays showcase the smaller items within the larger exhibit space giving them much more significance than otherwise possible.

utilizing backlit graphics and a plexiglas cover elevated on stand-off mounts, the wafers and other components are protected and displayed with prominence.

both the depth and the angle create perfect lighting and ease of viewing within the exhibiting areas of the JDSU booth.

Barbie: Lighted Display Box (Mattel/Paladone)

... quite literally... my wife fabricates and sells sterling silver art jewelry and she participated in the Atlanta Arts Festival this past weekend. I helped out by being her "rent-a-slave" for two days. Large crowd, HOT weather. She did very well though, so it was worth it.

Seriously though, I think I lost 10 pounds on Saturday.

It took alot of figuring, thinking, pondering and concentration to dismantle the display cases so they could be reassembled with as little damage to the woodworking as possible.

Was pottering round in the British Museum last week. I've no idea that was in this particular narrow display case but I enjoyed standing sideways to it and looking straight down the central partition that split the case in two. I like the way the items on the bottom of the case are reflected on the glass on either side.

Some of this petrified wood comes from reservation land in Arizona. The green piece is amazing!

For thirty years now the art of Sophie Calle has been concerned with events from her personal life, and the art that results leaves its mark on her daily life. For example there is “Take Care of Yourself” which was the final remark of Calle’s lover who callously ended their relationship in an email. She uses the email as a point of departure giving it to 107 women from different walks of life who analyze it. The women are photographed as they pour over the email interpreting it according to their lives. The resultant artist’s book chronicles their responses. The display window also includes catalogues resulting from the many exhibitions had by this French conceptualist.

Library Display Case featuring Sophie Calle. Created by Rosemary Furtak, Walker Art Center Librarian. Summer 2009.

Tom Kyne (background), who manages traveling exhibits, worked with sculptor Bob Leavy to assemble display cases containing delicate fossils, taking into consideration details like object placement and lighting angles. Staff designed the exhibit to be user friendly and accommodate other venues. Megalodon will travel to museums around the nation after it leaves Gainesville in January, 2008.

You can see how the curved glass doors in the display cases open upwards -- and since they were originally installed in the '20s, the ceiling has been lowered so that we can't remove the glass doors without either taking down the ceiling -- or breaking down the cases. They opted to break down the cases into hundreds of separate pieces.

Walker Art Center owns THE BOX IN A VALISE, a witty creation by Marcel Duchamp, who devised the idea of fabricating his works (familiar to art lovers) in signed and numbered miniature versions – a small urinal, a tiny typewriter cover, Paris air. They were the first multiples – small-scale sculptures that seemed more affordable and more accessible than the unique works. Multiplication was the message.

Every December for the past twenty years, the artist Harriet Bart, creator of the WINTER PROJECTS, has been making and sending multiples. These multiples echo her larger finished works and serve as a holiday greeting for sixty or more friends and colleagues. Moreover, they are produced for just $5.00 as giveaways (in the spirit of Fluxus) and are packaged to go through the US Mail. The recipients have collected some twenty years’ worth of multiples that are often housed together on a special shelf, much like the one seen in the Walker Library vitrine.

Walker Art Center Library Display Case, March 2009.

All the material in the case relates to John “I will not make any more boring art” Baldessari. The books from left to right are as follows: THE TELEPHONE BOOK: (WITH PEARLS), Imschoot, Uitgevers, Belgium, 1988; CHOOSING GREEN BEANS, Toselli, Milan, 1972; FOUR EVENTS AND REACTIONS, Centro Di, Florence, 1975; THROWING THREE BALLS IN THE AIR TO GET A STRAIGHT LINE: BEST OF THIRTY-THREE ATTEMPTS, Gallery Toselli, Milano, 1973. These books present a marked contrast to the copy of TRISTRAM SHANDY illustrated by Baldessari, Arion Press, San Francisco, 1988, which is featured in TEXT/MESSAGES: BOOKS BY ARTISTS on view at Walker Art Center through April 19.
