2012 Library Display Case featuring Tauba Auerbach.
The 2010 Whitney Biennial catalogue characterized the artist in the following way:
“Tauba Auerbach uses a rigorous yet playful approach to investigate both the shortcomings and the possibilities of established systems of logic. In her paintings, drawings, photographs, and installations, Auerbach creates elegant patterns and juxtapositions that rework and deconstruct the conventional ways information is conveyed.”
The display case features a recently published work, POP-UP BOOK, that includes 6 individual pop-up volumes measuring 20 x 16 x 6 inches, three of which are seen in the case. The book was co-published by the artist and Printed Matter in an edition of 1,000. Auerbach was born in San Francisco, California, in 1981.
Created by Rosemary Furtak.
Library Display Case featuring the work of Ken Price. The display was prompted by the New York Times obituary of Ken Price (1935-2012) and features The Plain of Smokes: A Poem Cycle, with silkscreens by Ken Price and text by Harvey Mudd. This exhibit features some of the more provacative artists' books in the Walker Art Center Library. The X-Rated sign covers the front glass of the vitrine, and the works are visible through a series of peepholes. For a photo of the Morimura fan, see page 23 of this document. The didactic for the X-Rated exhibit shows the names of the artists whose works were shown, as wells as those of the individuals who helped create the exhibit.

For thirty years now the art of Sophie Calle has been concerned with events from her personal life, and the art that results leaves its mark on her daily life. For example there is “Take Care of Yourself” which was the final remark of Calle’s lover who callously ended their relationship in an email. She uses the email as a point of departure giving it to 107 women from different walks of life who analyze it. The women are photographed as they pour over the email interpreting it according to their lives. The resultant artist’s book chronicles their responses. The display window also includes catalogues resulting from the many exhibitions had by this French conceptualist.

I like the minimalist feel of this reception. Very crisp and professional. Pretty cool perforated ceiling panels. I like the contrast of the pop of color from the recessed cubbyholes. The recessed perimeter lighting is very slick.
I always like big graphics on walls where appropriate.
Paper butterflies in a display case at the Retrofit store in Capitol Hill Seattle. They were hot glue gunned to both sides of the glass making for a cool effect.
I stopped my Michaels to after hearing/seeing what people have done with their display cases. (From a lego standpoint of course) I plan to put my Lego Batman Fig in this case designed for balls, but for the pic I tossed a contact juggling ball from my Higgins Brothers order into it, for sort of a practice shot.
Side note to those interested. Our Michaels, I'm guessing others too, had a 40% off all Display Cases sale for the week.
And if anyone knows how to perform Contact Juggli'ng....I'd be interested in any good instructional dvd's.
