There are only about two shops left that still make these beaded shoes worn by the Peranakan (or Nyonya / Straits Chinese) ladies. In the past, the glass beads would have been imported from Venice. A new pair now may cost USD200....

These components are essential for recognizing an object as a teapot. However, some teapots are so abstract or expressive that they only refer to the idea of a teapot.
Deze onderdelen zijn essentieel om een object als theepot te herkennen. Sommige theepotten zijn echter zo abstract of expressief voorgegeven dat ze alleen nog maar refereren aan het idee van een theepot.

In a relatively narrow hallway area of the museum, there were very small glass display cases, which, when photographed at the right angle, appear quite impressive ...

A very nice display case of mostly aragonite pseudomorph specimens collected many years ago on Needle Peak, in the southern part of Brewster County, Texas, near the Big Bend National Park. Today, this type of material is very hard to find. (sorry for all the reflections, but we could not get the glass front off the display case to take a better shot!)

Above my layout is a custom built display case which I designed to show my models. The case is approx 50 inches long X 32 inches high X 5 inches deep made of 3/4 inch solid oak. The case has adjustable 3/8 inch tempered glass shelves and 1/4 inch tempered glass sliding roller bearing doors in an aluminum track. The case holds approximately 45 diesels depending upon their size. The case is not large enough to hold all of my diesels so I rotate them in and out as the occasion arise.

My first time exploring the Victoria & Albert Museum today, and was amazed at the absolute scale of the place. So many different rooms and galleries to explore with so many different items. This was the Paul and Jill Ruddock Gallery, but viewed from the second floor at one end where a stone pathway crosses between the gallery and the main entrance. The roofspace is fantastic in its symmetry and using a glass display cabinet I was able to capture the reflection to make an almost futuristic image from a historic building.

I've done it before. I'll most likely do it again. Still haven't pegged down the curry macaroon. I'm nothing if not tenacious.
Every page of a local daily newspaper is displayed in showcases on the columns of this colonnade on the Königsallee in Düsseldorf.
Strangely it’s nearly always men that stand reading them!
At last, yesterday saw the arrival of my new multi story car park for most of my small fleet of cars. These two display units turned into a little bit of a saga and took forever to arrive. You sometimes have to take your chances with e-bay purchases. They are the second replacements for the first ones which apparently got damaged by floods in the factory. The second lot were lost by the courier company, so these two cabinets are a case of third time lucky! Not quite the quality I expected, as the thin shelves are sagging a little already (update - problem has since been solved) despite being specifically designed just for heavy 1/18th scale die-cast cars, but they do the intended job by displaying the cars nicely, and the slide down clear acrylic covers keep them clean and dust free. Much better than the open shelving I was using. This is not quite the whole fleet, and it seems to grow every few weeks (when I get permission to spend the piggy bank funds)!
Lots of my favourites in this display - I can't really single one out, but if pressed, it is probably a tie between the E-type Jag (in British Racing Green) and the gold Chevy Corvette. Ooh, but then there's the two Cobras, and all the Ferraris, and the Aston Martins too......
Having learned, wept and eventually accepted the fact that his “prize” for winning 3rd place in the Spring Fling Bake Off is to teach Palpatine’s nephew survival skills in the kitchen once a month until further notice, Stormtrooper Bruce has no idea where to begin. STB knows the nephew has basic knowledge of things, so perhaps that is where he needs to start… the basics.
STB: Well, hello Little Dude! Welcome to your first class in Kitchen Survival Skills. I heard your mother wants to make sure you know your way around the kitchen when you grow up.
SB: Oh, hello Unka Dude! I sure missed you! Did you miss me? It’s been forever since I’ve seen you! I’m so cited that you won the prize to teach me! Isn’t it awesome! Oh, and today my name is Sponge Bob, accause I’m here to soak up everything you’re going to teach me! I wish we could do this every day, but Unka Pappy says you have other duties, so I’ll have to settle for once a month!
STB: Well, Spongey, I see you’re still doing that WTMIAO thing, way too much information at once. But never mind. Let’s get started.
SB: Oooh, just lookit all this stuff!!! Your quarters look like a giant walk in pantry.
STB: And for good reason. Today’s lesson is more like a quiz to see just how much you already know. I have laid out various kinds of items one might need to use in the kitchen at some time or another. You just have to tell me what everything is, and bonus points if you can also tell me how that item might be used.
SB: What? A quiz? Right off the bat? No fair! I didn’t even have time to study! I’m telling Momma and Unka Pappy that you’re … wait a second. I actually know some of those things. So, once I ace this quiz of yours, do I get time off for good behavior? Do I get to watch cartoons? Can I play video games on your laptop? Will you read to me?
STB: Here we go. Um.. Little, I mean Spongey, you are here to learn, not to play. However, if you ace the quiz - we may be able to go visit the Hydroponics Bay in your Unka Pappy’s Botanical Gardens to see how many fruits and vegetables you can name.
SB: Great Galaxy! Is that the secret place where Unka Pappy grows those ginormous plants that eat people?
STB: Oh, yes, well...there is that. But we're going into the safe, authorized section. No one is losing a finger today.
