CHEF seguicollar wants us to glimpse what's on the other side of the exit ... or is it an entrance??

You must create a scene which includes a portal, defined as “a door, gate, or entrance, especially one of imposing appearance".

Include a single living being in the scene.

Arabesque patterns must appear in the composition. See HERE for more on arabesques.

Your image must also include at least one, featured, geometric shape.

NO PLANTS, including trees, flowers, grass, etc.

Credits: door/background is mine (that’s the entrance of the Harry Winston store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and the decorations on the gate are part of it); girl via Pexels; “swoosh” brushes by unknown; arabesque brushes by Hillllallll deviantart (used for the outer border of arabesques); cloud brushes by centb.

On Dec. 4, 2016, I had the privilege of participating in a workshop called "Cameras and Dancers" where photographers were paired with dancers for the opportunity to shoot them in a myriad of poses. The location for the shoot was Union Station – a marvelous, historic building and the hub of Los Angeles's metro system.

I never thought about how Brussels sprouts grew until I walked into the grocery store a couple months ago and found a barrel full of stalks of Brussels sprouts. Of course I had to buy a few to take photos of ;-).

Created for TMI's challenge: In the Style of ... ICM (Intentional Camera Movement).

I was shooting on a bright day and with my camera set for ICM effects, but without a filter to compensate for the bright sun. The result was a number of overexposed photos. This one, however, turned out to be one of my favorites, especially when I decreased brightness and contrast, which brought out those lovely pastel colors.

CHEF brillianthues wants us to imagine a colorful, warm weather scene!

The background of your image must be a visibly abstract pattern. Examples HERE. (A subtle texture will not do.)

The image must include ONE circle, sphere OR orb.

Also ONE bird OR butterfly.

And flowers – as many as you wish.

NO MUTED COLORS.

Created for TMI's July contest: "ROCKS that ROCK".

Morro Rock stands at the end of a narrow spit of land in Morro Bay, CA. It's what they call a volcanic plug or volcanic neck – hardened magma formed within a vent from an active volcano.

Created for Hypothetical Awards' "CHIMNEY SWEEP "Mini-Challenge.

Morro Bay on the central coast of California is famous for the enormous volcanic plug known as Morro Bay Rock as well as for the Morro Bay Estuary, a natural preserve for birds and home to many endangered species.

Directly across the bay is the anything-but-natural Morro Bay power plant with its three enormous smokestacks. Despite its negative environmental impact, there's a beauty in this landmark which I capitalized on in this imagined scene.

See my original photo HERE.

See a panoramic view of the entire bay HERE.

CHEF Beth challenges us to create an architectural, urban artwork. Here are the ingredients:

The focus of your image must be on urban architecture.

It must include at least one reflection.

And use light in an interesting/creative way.

Your use of color, in general, must be subtle, not bold.

NO REAL PEOPLE (statues and mannequins are okay as long as they're of minor importance).

CHEF bethrosengard encourages us to be homebodies!

Build your image around a common household object that is small enough to fit in a microwave (spoon, light bulb, vase, towel, salt shaker, TV remote, bar of soap, mug, flashlight, etc., etc., etc.).

Let this object be the inspiration for the whole image, which must have either a comedic, dramatic, tragic or melodramatic overtone

Place your object in or on a background that’s unexpected. In other words, don’t depict a pillow on a chair in a living room. The background could be as diverse as a simple texture or an urban night scene.

Use text somewhere in your image.

NO ANIMALS.
