While a number of neighborhoods in Detroit have rebounded from the economic devastation there, many more have yet to show a glimmer of health.

Shot from a car while driving in Detroit, November 2015. Processing started on the iPad (mostly iColorama) and finished in Photoshop on the iMac.

It all started when I sent Renee the three photos you'll see in the first comment box below. I figured she would choose the one she liked best and we would go from there. Instead, she combined all three. Wow!

From there, the collaboration went something like this (major additions only ... there was lots of fine tuning along the way):

Beth -- added sail boat (stay tuned)

Renee -- added lightning and snow caps on the mountains

B -- pelican

R -- the sphere balanced between the two rocks and 3 black birds

B -- four more spheres (the big one at the right covered over the sail boat which was no longer working)

R -- another sphere, the clouds, lightning flare and driftwood with bird

B -- the frame

This is the second collaboration between me and Renee (aka Irene, renaxel, skagitrenee). Enjoy the first here.

CHEF BETH's theme is "Animal/Vegetable/Mineral/Abstract"! Here are the ingredients:

Your image must be a pure, non-representational abstract.

The source of your abstract must be a photo of a bird and/or a flower and/or a scissors (any one, two or all three).

Your <b source photo(s) should not be recognizable (or only vaguely so) in the finished image.

Be creative with your title which should convey the concept, composition and/or emotion of your abstract.

You may use no other photos but the one, two or three noted above (though painting and other digital manipulation is fine).

On Dec. 4, 2016, I had the privilege of participating in a workshop called "Cameras and Dancers" where photographers were paired with dancers for the opportunity to shoot them in a myriad of poses. The location for the shoot was Union Station – a marvelous, historic building and the hub of Los Angeles's metro system.

Created for TMI's challenge: In the Style of ... ICM (Intentional Camera Movement).

I was shooting on a bright day and with my camera set for ICM effects, but without a filter to compensate for the bright sun. The result was a number of overexposed photos. This one, however, turned out to be one of my favorites, especially when I decreased brightness and contrast, which brought out those lovely pastel colors.
