Through a single layer facial tissue. Significant reduction in light and the quality of the image. Gives it the feel of an old time photograph.
I'm questioning whether this would be diffused lighting - is it the subject, or the light the subject passes through? This is not necessarily a submission for this project, but more of a question answered if anyone can help out.
Diffuse lighting is achieving softer and subtler light in and from an image. I not only choose sunset and black and white to achieve this softness but the subject was deliberate to capture the very essence of this technique. The subject: an innocent baby girl simply existing. What could be more sudue than this?
I built a flash diffuser out of two 24 ounce styro cups, lined with foil on one side to reflect the light outward.
I mounted them enwise onto a Vivitar 283 flash unit with a flash trigger sensor on it, and mounted a small Vivitar flash on camera facing straight up to trigger the remote unit without affecting the exposure.
These shots were taken in bright sunlight at f/11-f/16 @ 1/160sec.

The diffused side lighting creates a more natural look, but still has a somewhat undesirable look about it.
