My dads old comics these are a bunch of different ones they go from Star Wars to Richie Rich and more.
1st, 2nd, 3rd,4th shots are 18mm shot with AF-S. The focus points are different.
5th shots are AF-S through liveview which is much better than the previous 4 shots. The last one is manual focus through liveview mode. Reason I use live view mode because it can zoom in the focus point so that I can adjust the focus more accurate.
This is a different area of the Lake where the light was fading; it was sheltered; some water grasses; and a strange light was on the water giving interesting reflections. Next time (a couple of days) I will give you some very challenging reflections to unravel. Maybe you won't like these but I hope you do.

Here are two shots of a different gall on the apex of a leaf of Scrub Oak (Quercus berberidifolia) in the Fagaceae plant family. It doesn't seem to match anything in Ron Russo's "Field Guide to Plant Galls" (UC Press, 2006) or Joyce Gross's fine California Oak Galls website. Maybe it's a new one? It looks quite distinctive with that crown of points around the top. (San Marcos Pass, 18 November 2014)
I'm pretty sure this is the gall of a Cynipid Gall Wasp (Cynipidae, Hymenoptera). There was a tiny exit hole on the bottom, so I figured the gall was empty. I removed the leaf and tried to pose it for a photo, but it fell away and got lost. See my [Next] photo.
These two chicks look very different, but presumably were from the same litter? The one on the left is a mallard chick but the one on the right looks as much like a cygnet as anything! There were some domestic white ducks mixed in with the mallards on this pond, so I assume these are the result of a cross?
... completely different from the cute little many-legged squishy caterpillar, anyway.
This is spicebush swallowtail caterpillar #1, now a chrysalis!
They're "supposed" to pupate on a branch or twig, and I had several of those inside the caterpillar condo for him to use, I promise! But he crawled around and around and around... and around and around and around... all up and down those twigs... fell off a couple times... then lay down on the floor and curled up, and I thought he was a goner. Very sad I was over my little deceased caterpillar. But I kept hoping maybe he was ok... maybe he would still pupate after all... even though he looked deader than dead... after he had been lying there curled up for about 24 hours, I went out for 3 hours with some friends, then came home to find: a chrysalis!!! (Maybe it's that whole "watched pot" thing. Or caterpillar stage fright.)
He wasn't dead, and he had pupated after all! I was so proud!

Something a bit different... I took this using my iPhone whilst en route to Oxford earlier in the week. The train was just pulling in so it was a bit of a snatched shot... I completed the B&W conversion in Photoshop - just in case you were wondering.
