Basingstoke. During the recovery from a major signal failure at Woking, a northbound container working disappears towards Reading while a Salisbury line train eases out of the up sidings. In the background, Stanier 'Black Five' 44871 coasts towards its booked stop at platform 1 with the 11 December run to Sherborne. Shortly after this shot was taken, all four through platforms held down passenger trains!
Le Grand Parc de la Briantais est un vaste domaine de 27 hectares, surplombant l'estuaire de la Rance, situé dans le quartier de Saint-Servan à Saint-Malo.
Il surplombe les bords de la Rance, sur la pointe de la Briantais où est ancrée l'usine marémotrice de la Rance et offre une vue sur la baie Saint-Malo et sa tour Solidor ainsi que sur Dinard. Sa disposition réfléchie en plateaux et en allées ménage des effets de surprise adaptés aux différents points de vue.
Le domaine comprend un château du XVIIe siècle, reconstruit en 1864, de vingt mètres de long sur sept mètres de profondeur. Saisi comme bien national à la Révolution française, il appartenait auparavant à Michel Picot de Presmenil (1715-1788), membre d'une importante famille d'armateurs de Saint-Malo, qui avait épousé en 1744 Servanne Angélique Locquet. Il avait auparavant appartenu à Joseph de la Haye de la Briantais.
En 1803 une vente aux enchères permet son rachat par Jacques-Wulfren Ethéart. Il a ensuite appartenu à Guy La Chambre (1889-1975), maire de Saint Malo, héritier d'une grande famille d'armateurs, ministre des IIIe et IVe Républiques qui fut à l'origine de la reconstruction de la ville de Saint-Malo en 1945. Il a fait don de La Briantais à l'Association diocésaine de Rennes en 1978 faute d'héritiers. En 1999 la propriété est acquise par la ville de Saint-Malo qui l'entretient depuis et l'ouvre gratuitement au public.
Le parc, notamment aménagé au XVIIIe siècle, a été réaménagé en 1935. Les tempêtes de 1987 et 1999 privèrent le site d'environ 400 arbres dont beaucoup du XVIIIe siècle et du XIXe siècle, sur les 4 500 qu'il contient.
Il est ouvert à la promenade chaque jour avec des horaires variant selon la saison. Le marché aux fleurs de Saint-Malo a lieu dans le parc du château chaque mois de mai.
Le parc dans son état actuel inclut de nombreuses statues, plusieurs fabriques et dépendances telles qu'une chapelle de 1778 (remaniée a posteriori), des lavoirs, un temple de l'amour et des communs de style néo-normand construits au cours du 4ème quart du XIXe siècle dont un grand corps de ferme. Il contient toujours les ruines de l'ancien manoir du XVIIe siècle dans un bois aux abords du château actuel.

Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month.
This month saw the operation take place in Wigan.
The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.
Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.

The Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia holds the Samelan every year in the different parts of Malaysia.
This is a camp held for the Sikh youth to come together, learn and have fun!
This is 41/100 photograph of my 100 Strangers. As part of this project, I will photograph strangers with their consent. I aspire to photograph a diverse group of people who I see in the streets of Singapore/other cities

The very different images. One of a lone Jeff Koons sculpture with the heart shaped part seemingly suspended in the clouds. An exuberant young schoolgirl in red at the red-tap water fountain in the old slave market in Stone Town, Zanzibar, hopefully unencumbered by the heavy burden of the past. Finally, two young boy in Spain act out their own 'Death in the Afternoon scenario. I liked the red of the boy playing the bull merging with the red cape and the red of the boy playing the matador.

The temple of Hathor, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess of Love, was built during the Greek domination of Egypt. Egypt was conquered by Alexander the Great, and even though the Greeks contributed elements of their culture, they readily and enthusiastically embraced the ancient religion of their subjects. The temple of Hathor is located in Dendera, near Qina, north of Luxor.

Studio 26-2 Triangles
The dominant feature, the vanishing point tracks, make the dominant triangle here. I see a large triangle in the bridge underpass and many small triangles in the framework holding the sign in the left of the photo. This is a photo in which I thought about composition while taking the photo, rather than capturing moving animals and cropping afterwards.

Here's something that's not UTHS-related. The annual Soapbox Derby held in Davenport. By this time in my photo-taking career I'd discovered the power of the camera ( when coupled with a bit of moxy ) could open doors for inside access to events.
I might have still been a teen, but if you introduce yourself as someone who should have press access and you display your cameras there was very little that anybody would do to stop you, seriously. The newspapers didn't issue IDs, possibly an editor might call ahead and say that someone would show up but that contact often wasn't the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper had no authority to challenge anyone and besides, this isn't something that more than a couple people might be doing anyway. Charity events seek publicity to all is fine!
People manning the gates back then may not have known camera gear but they realized what a SLR was and maybe a Nikon or Canon and that they were too expensive to carry several around if you truly did't have business there ( and why would you be there then )? It would be a different story today when half the people have a DSLR, and one looks like another and gatekeepers don't have detailed understanding of the equipment. Also, publications began issuing ID to employees to smooth access and to cut down on mischief.
As I work thru the archive you'll begin to see more local events. If I didn't go there with Lou to hang out I'd go to challenge myself, shooting for a winning shot or two.
Now, looking back from fifty years-on these pix are more nostalgic than captivating. Please spend some time going thru the contact sheets for items of interest. If there's a person, or place or event that I haven't brought forward just let me know and I'll enlarge it.
At the same time, it would be swell if you'd scratch a few memories about the photo to include.
