No matter how much you live, no matter how many people you know, no matter how many cultures you've been immersed in, there will always be people who surprise you in very different ways, who challenge your capacity of understanding and predicting their behaviour.
Sometimes this is due to their innate nature and complexity, other times it's the difference of their cultural context and yours, stretched beyond your capacity to understand, or at least, accept.
We are never fully elastic, we can never fully adapt, regardless of our intelligence and willingness. This is an important lesson to learn, as it makes the difference of having a full and complete existence, and a flawed and unhappy one.
The kit and its assembly:
A different subject - WWI whifs are rather rare, and I was looking for a new challenge. Basic idea had been to build an alternative to the famous Fokker Dr.I triplane, and soon I found the sleek Albatros fighters with their typical inline engine to be a good alternative basis.
Anyway, i was surpised that there had actually been two triplane designs by Albatros, so I eventually ended up with a fictional Dr.III designation...
This whif model is a bashing of two Revell kits: the vintage Albatros D.III kit (I built one maybe 30 yerars ago, all red, horrible styrene) and a Sopwith Triplane. I was surprised that material quality was considerably improved since my last encounter with Revell biplane kits, and the moulds aren't bad, either, even though especiacially the D.III kit cannot conceal its age.
Things started with some measurements: simply grafting the Sopwith's wings onto the D.III fuselage would not work, or yield something like the rather ugly Albatros Dr.I. So I used the Sopwith's wingspan/fuselage ratio as benchmark and modified the D.III's fuselage accordingly, cutting away ~1cm of the rear fuselage behind the cockpit and sculpting a new transition towards the tail section from putty - I wanted to keep the typical Albatros teardrop shape.
From that, the Sopwith Triplane's wings were added from lowest to the top, using the the OOB outer wing struts. Once all wings were in place I placed the Albatros struts between the upper wing and fuselage, which worked pretty well.
The landing gear was taken wholesale from the Sopwith Triplane (it's the smaller of both donation aircraft), but I replaced the rather ugly wheels from both kits with a pair of Hawker Fury wheels from a Matchbox kit, found in the spare box.
Pilot, engine, machine guns and exhaust were taken OOB from the D.III kit, I just scratched a new cooler for the upper wing with styrene.
Rigging was done before painting, with heated sprues (of black plastic); certainly not the orthodox method, but it works for me and my way of building/painting.

Today I launch a new series which has the aim to highlight the beautiful & varied texture on our beloved pipes. Yes, we hold our pipes, caress them, enjoy them & smoke them day in and day out. Do we ever miss some of the small details though? Can we look at them any deeper? Of course we can.
To assist that process, I went out and hired a professional photographer (high-speed camera, strobe lights, big set-up & all) and took macro pictures of pipes to focus on their surface, their texture. The next phase of the project required me to find a way to express the beauty of the pipe’s surface. Since I lack any skill in the photo shop arena, I went out and hired a professional graphic designer and together we art-directed the project and took it to it’s final stages. The question of – How do we show the beauty of the pipe’s surface & make sure that we ‘really see it’ was the one thing guiding this project. While the pipe’s surrounding’s are definitely photo-shopped, the actual surface of the pipe remains 100% untouched. You are looking at the actual pipe surface of a J.T. Cooke pipe, as it looks in reality. This was part of the project’s point. To show the surface, unchanged, in order to highlight it’s ‘interest factor’ that much more.
Scan of a graphic tag I made years and years ago with Print Shop. I used this tag to label my boxes of ephemera pertaining to Louisiana. The water meter logo came from the Interwebs and, sadly, I don't have the source.
A different type of reflection: The 70th anniversary of D Day has been widely covered in the British press with personal accounts of the events of 6th June. I came across this lone gravestone in a local churchyard.... Historic events are made up of individual stories of heroism, sacrifice or misfortune.
Much prettier sky today than on the other cloudy days that I tried this shot. Dazzle was again watching a person walking by on the road when I snapped this. I tried many different angles while he practiced his stay but only uploaded this one. I went out to get this particular shot (for a contest) in spite of the pain I'm in, then got back home and went back to bed. As far as the contest results, I would have been better off staying home. But I'm still glad I finally got the shot I wanted.
I added a photo of the log he was on to my stream to show that it is at ground level on the root end so that's how he got up there. The fallen tree is over a bit of a gully, so it gets pretty far off the ground. I am 5'5" and could just barely touch the underside of the log where he is standing in the photo. He's not the least bit bothered by height and at one point he was standing sideways across the log to look down at me. I liked the shot I got of him doing that, but I needed the flash and didn't realise that till I saw it larger on my computer screen.
He is as agile as a cat, but also careful about where he is putting his feet so I don't worry about him falling. And this is about the same height as the palisade wall that Malinois have to jump off of in Ringsport (after jumping to the top of the wall). (www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_Q5K48NGPc)

This was taken on my way to work, just before stopping at the house on the corner where my previously posted photo with the cat was taken. I thought these pipes were interesting and it was funny how one pairing was different from the other two. Sometimes I notice these things... I'm learning to be more observant.
My vacation photos did come back a week or so ago, before I moved in. I've just been too lazy to start posting them. That would require me to go back in my memories and write about them... Not that re-living the trip wouldn't be enjoyable! Just that I'm lazy...
I'll try to start posting those photos sometime soon. Maybe after Orientation week is over... I make no promises. XP

This place is amazing. It's made up of a few different trails, each taking you through a completely different ecosystem. ("The city of Jacksonville purchased the property for use as a buffer from a wastewater treatment plant during the 1970s, and left alone for thirty years, 13 separate ecosystems developed, including oak hammock, fresh water ravine, upland sand hill and salt marsh."
It's a FREE park, and a great way to spend the afternoon. I didn't see too much wildlife, just 2 snakes and plenty of birds, but I'm sure further visits will provide more opportunities!

"Different World" is the first track from English heavy metal band Iron Maiden's 2006 album A Matter of Life and Death. The song is the band's thirty-fifth single, and is also the second single from the album, released on 14 November 2006 in the United States, and 26 December 2006 in Europe. The song has been stated by the band to be a tribute to Thin Lizzy due to the low sounding melodies sung by Bruce Dickinson that are reminiscent of those Phil Lynott would sing. It was played first every night on the band's A Matter of Life and Death Tour.
The guitar solo in "Different World" is played by Adrian Smith.
The song is featured in the skateboarding video game Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.
The all-female tribute band, The Iron Maidens, recorded an acoustic cover of the song on their 2008 EP The Root of All Evil.

In 1970 Kentwell stood neglected. No-one was prepared to take it on - except Patrick Phillips. He fell for this wonderful House in its magical setting and was not deterred by its condition. Ever since then he has, with his wife and family, sought to bring Kentwell back to life. Their works have taken part of the House and its 15th Century Service Building back to the 16th Century. Elsewhere changes reflect their own preferences. House, Gardens & Farm have an unrivalled ability to captivate the visitor.
Take a glimpse into both the past and present of this unique House. Enjoy its delightful Gardens. You can do this whenever you come but especially if you visit during one of the award-winning Re-Creations of Tudor or WWII Everyday Life and (recently) Victorian life. Kentwell pioneered Tudor domestic Living History Events in the UK, and nearly 30 years on the Re-Creations are as magical as ever.

They are blonde (apple a true blonde, Blondie.. a yellow blonde :p) and had blue eyes, but like in the picture the faces are so different.

Poppy is indifferent to the fish, which have been an enduring fascination for Bob. Bob, however, has never got the big deal about rubber balls.
I'm really starting to wonder about Poppy. My mother-in-law saw her dam at the breeders and confirms that she was a proper yorkie, but we only know what the breeder told us of her sire: "he was a big yorkie." I'm starting to wonder if the "big yorkie" wasn't actually an australian terrier, or maybe a silky terrier.
ILRI has recently submitted a proposal on 'Feed and Fodder Production in Different Agro-climatic Zones and Utilization for Livestock of Odisha' to F&ARD's Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (DAH&VS) (photo credit: ILRI/Susan MacMillan)
ILRI has been working in Odisha since 2013 in collaboration with Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), the Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (OMFED) and the state government’s DAH&VS and F&ARD to improve the state's livestock productivity through better use of crop residues and locally sourced feed supplements within the framework of the CGIAR Cereal Systems Initiatives for South Asia (CSISA).
An international workshop on 'Improving Livestock Feeding Practice and Enhancement of Feed and Fodder Availability in Odisha' was organized jointly by Society for Management of Information, Learning and Extension (SMILE) and ILRI in 2015.
Based on the workshop’s recommendations, Odisha's F&ARD Department is recommending in 2016 the preparation of a comprehensive fodder development plan for Odisha.
