Volunteers who willingly chose to undertake a volunteer service of duty and made a difference for the Darby Military Community were recognized in a ceremony July 30. Their volunteer service saved the US Government over $122K worth of services provided.
Day 216 of 365 (Sunday - aka New Year's Day) - Today we travelled from my parents' home to my partner's home. Yesterday I was in the fens, at the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust, soaking in the views and enjoying the birds and countryside, and today we arrived in North London to tower blocks and a different way of life. I took some photos of swans yesterday, so was struck by these two in the garden today. I had as much fun photographing these two in different locations and at different angles as I did with the real thing yesterday. I love visiting all my family, and this just summed up that to me, about how people and places can be so different, but enjoyable each in their own right. I'm also so glad my children get to experience the contrasts too.
Happy new year to you all - I hope you enjoy the variety and wonders it brings!

2nd interpretation of this--I'm still not sure if this is the way I want it. I may yet upload the 1st interpretation. :)
Horicon National Wildlife Refuge. This is along the auto tour, a spot I'm especially fond of.
Flickriver view recommended. (Could someone please let me know if that link is wrong somehow? Thanks...)
It was interesting trying to export a version of this that wasn't totally destroyed by Flickr's autosharpening. I've heard so many people complain about that, and been somewhat affected by it myself a few times, but never had I seen an image that was just wrecked by it the way this one was. I finally took Lightroom's sharpening control and put it on the minimum setting and disabled export sharpening, which seems to have done the trick...mostly.
The other thing issue I've resolved (I guess) is the colorspace issue. My first two tries for this were sRGB and AdobeRGB--I did a back-and-forth comparison between the two in Lightbox view here, and could see no difference whatsoever in the colors. Absolutely zilch. So any color issues I've been having I am guessing are due to the limitations of 8 bit per channel colorspaces overall, rather than which particular one I'm using. It might be a side effect of JPG compression too, actually.

The only difference between the two drinks, of course, is that the latter, on the right, is garnished with cocktail onions, not olives. Absolute purists perhaps might argue that a Martini must be made with gin, not the vodka many prefer. Probably, the REAL James Bond, the ornithologist known for his guidebook, "Birds of the Caribbean," favored gin and tonic at his home in Jamaica, not too far from where the late Ian Fleming began to write his series of slightly camp spy novels, adopting the bold name of the bird man for his secret agent hero.

If you look at her photo when she was very young and ace of Adrienne Maloof before plastic surgery, you will for sure notice one huge difference, even the photo is black and white and pretty old – her nose is completely different.
So can anyone really tell the big difference between the two? They look like twins....not that i am complaining...

haven't had a chance to upload photos lately , life was to hectic :( ,
i have to apologize for the color , its everywhere , but the idea was , "LIFE" , sometimes we cant accept the differences ,but differences make life colorful, even we run , move, or even choose to go to different direction, but i believe eventually we have one ! one! yes one similarity obsession , which is to be a better human .
Don't give up guys , it can rain everyday , but it cant rain forever ,!!! keep pursuing your dream, accept the differences from others and live life to the fullest .
have a great day guys !!
cheers

The "secure" door has been unlocked for 5 days
In the meantime, they've installed an ambiguous lighted exit sign. At least, it would be ambiguous, if that arch didn't clearly lead to the street.

The 10 Differences...or the future that never was.
thinking about 2010 and how it was supposed to be "THE FUTURE", with all the jetpacks and spandex and stuff... still no flying cars, or houses on mars, but the year is here already...

Detail of the second Difference Engine No. 2 that the Science Museum are currently building.
[Updated] Not perfect, but now straightened out a bit better.
What’s the difference between a collapse, a downfall, and a downright apocalypse? How will it all end, and why do we love to wonder? Ice or fire, zombies or bombs? Out with a bang or a whimper? And can we do anything to stop the decline?
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, the new free exhibition at Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, will explore why the disastrous can be devilishly entertaining, and whether there’s any truth to these dismal predictions. Join doomers, designers, and doctors as they lay out the top threats to our world, evaluate how likely they are, and spell out exactly what we can do about it. The exhibition opened on 13th October and runs until 11th February 2018. For more information, visit dublin.sciencegallery.com/icoe.
