Passport has the rich, multi-shaded wood grain of tropical hardwood, but it's made from weatherable low maintenance cellular PVC. Passport PVC decking doesn't absorb moisture, so you never have to worry about mold, warped boards or splinters in your feet. This particular deck uses the popular London Grey color option. Part of a Hanafuda deck. The cards are thicker than regular playing cards. I was trying to use something different. If you're not familiar with the card game, you can read about it here. Taken for the Macro Mondays theme of "game pieces."
Strobist info: SB-R200 at 1/10 power into homemade softbox from the right and second SB-R200 at 1/10 through white cloth diffuser from left. Distant SB800 at 1/80, low/front/slightly left.
The previous owners of this home had begun to adorn their yard with a pond. The exterior had a lot of potential, but lacked continuity with the existing house, porch and pond. We needed to create a design that would blend all of these elements together in a functional and attractive way. We constructed the deck using an element resistant composite material and accented it with white vinyl railings. By removing the half-wall on the existing porch, the homeowners could now view the beautifully landscaped pond from the deck, as well as the inside of their cozy haven. Our finished product was functional, low maintenance and esthetically pleasing to the eye.
Soft wood split level deck with bespoke pergola and balustrades, with contemporary spindles on 3 sides.
Work on the new I-70 bridge between St. Louis and St. Clair County, Illinois, continues with painting, barrier work and an overlay. These photos were from October 2013.
Deck furniture out our window on the top deck of the ferry from Hainan island to the Chinese mainland. Some highrises of Haikou are in the background. The main port on the north shore of Hainan island, it turned out to be quite a bit larger than I expected.

This is the main drain that comes out directly under the middle of level two. It branches back to a "Y" connector with one pipe going left and coming up at the corner of the house between levels one and two, and the other running right, up under level one to the corner of the shop.

The state of the deck as of today. Not much happened today, although the stairs disappeared. A little stone retaining wall was added next to the deck.
The White Lady on the left is now owned by Brian Souter. Sitting next to it is a dual-purpose Alexander-bodied Volvo Citybus of Eastern Scottish.

Our redwood deck has gone four summers without being pressure-washed because of the long-term drought here in California. Last winter finally brought normal rainfall, so we're treating the deck to a much-needed wash in preparation for an equally-needed water sealing.
Decking the Luribay side. This took time because only having a pull cable on the upstream side here misaligned the crossbeams and suspenders. The crossbeams had to be manuevered into place by hand, one by one.
