An NS SD70ACC leads a westbound manifest through Chesterton, Indiana, shot from the deck of Riley's Railhouse. Although the Chicago Line these days is pretty boring power variety wise, it's undoubtedly relaxing just chilling here and watching the trains roll by. Big thanks to Paul C for letting me try out his 70-200 f/4L Canon lens.

Finally, the wind stopped blowing, and the high spring sun was warm enough to allow for a late afternoon drink OUTSIDE for the first time this year.

Férié (and her sister, Festivité) were the first two aircraft carriers built for Papillon, in the waning days of the Great War. Really, they were just two cargo ships with hangars and flight decks thrown on top. They were perfectly adequate for the business of wood-and-canvas biplanes, but all-metal monoplanes proved to be a bit too much. Seabeams could launch and land fine, and the Skipper (shown on deck) could even take off with a good headwind, and land if the deck was empty... Which it often wasn't, due to the size of the hangar. The dimensions of the ship doomed her from hopefully ever seeing combat service. These two carriers are just too small for modern aircraft to be comfortably operated from, and too slow for that matter. But they make fine aircraft transports! Which is exactly how these two ships have spent the later half of the 30s, moving planes between the homeland and far-flung outposts and colonies.
Since escort carriers aren't P&Q, I'm gonna show you D&C kiddies how to stat an escort carrier not made of bullshit:
Planes carried: 7-14 (combat, one Skipper takes up the space of two Seabeams), 34 (non-operational ferrying)
Armor: none, it's an escort carrier, they're not called "Combustible, Vulnerable, and Expendable" for nothing!
Guns:: 12x1 20mm autocannons, 5x2 37mm autocannons, 4x1 130mm cannons (not dual purpose)
Speed: 18 knots
With many people at First Dining, Deck 11 was prepared for Pirate Night festivities. Crew members had just finished covering the pools to create a large entertainment area for people to watch the show.

On deck aboard M/S Silja Symphony, a cruiseferry on route between Stockholm and Helsinki. I love the chaos of lines and the slight reflections in the windows.

Well one of those tasks that Jane (my lovely wife) has given me is to replace the decking rope. It's probably a couple of years old and pretty well weathered so I've got to locate new "shiny" rope. However, I took a shot of the rope this afternoon and I actually think it's looking great!
The splash of red and green is from a rhododendron and maybe that's what Jane can't see!!
