On the fence about a few things? It's good to listen to advice, but be sure to give your heart a chance to speak.

Should I go to the coast this morning for the waves or capture a snowy tree on the hill, decisions decisions!

This picture deals with the concept of where to put the frame (or crop). It is made up of two photographs, the garden scene and the picture frame.

Life is like a game of chess .. Every move requires precise thinking .. the wrong decisions teach us life lessons ..

Happy New Year!

I kind of have to start the new year with a bear photo, right?

I went through my stream and found a bunch of photos that had not been made public for one reason or another.

I made a send out to the northeast piedmont region to shoot CSX's northbound Norlina Sub local L617. CSX made the very intriguing decision to start sending MP15ACs 1136 and 1186 for local service in the Raleigh area over the past couple months. Being the whore for endcab switchers that I am, I knew I finally had to get this operation under my belt. The power on L617 this day was a pretty cool trio of 4 axle EMDs. The leader is one of the new GP40-3 rebuilds done by MEI earlier this year, with 1186 second out and an original square cab GP38-3 in the third slot. I don't like that the new dash 3s recieve e-bells, but they do look pretty good. Here's the local flying over the massive Tar River bridge south of Kittrell, with the access road for Carolina Sunrock winding beneath it. You can see one of the original bridge's supports beneath the newer structure. It's really crazy to think about how this used to be a busy mainline with high speed piggyback and passenger trains up until the 1980s, now reduced to getting a pair of 20 mile per hour locals only on weekdays. That'll soon change though, with plans for the entire S Line from Raleigh to near Richmond to be rebuilt to host 120 mile per hour Amtrak service. I'm happy I was able to shoot this line before that change happens.

Giving a go at people photography . Lots of them at the Art In The Gardens.

This is the best one. It is a learning curve ☮😎👍

passed away on monday, actually I had to make the decision for him.

kidney failure said the Vet, so we done the right thing..which is always so hard to do. but he's now over the rainbow bridge and has a good life. Harry has been quite old, 17 -18y, I never really knew and hope the last 2 1/2y have been happy ones for him. I sure had a lot of fun with Harry and some fights, in the end we always made up and being good with each other

Every decision made is the result of a choice, sometimes mine, sometimes yours. It was my choice to join. It was your choice what I was to be. God did not make the Warrior, man did. In the life we live, the Warrior is a necessity. It is the responsibility of the Warrior to protect and defend the freedom of others, no matter how high the cost. The color of freedom is red.

Grieve the Warrior, You.

Once a Warrior is made, there is no going back. He is forever changed. It is up to you to honor and respect the Warrior in his transformations. A Warrior has wisdom you will never know, let alone understand. Among Indian tribes of old, only a Warrior could become Chief, and only a Chief could advance to Sage.

Grieve the Warrior, You.

There is a Wall filled with bygone heroes, honored and respected. A virtual Wall exists with four times the names, fallen Warriors that shouldn't be, but driven there by dishonor and disrespect. There are many, many more who are alive, but dead at the same time. You have chosen to put it all behind you. It is past now, so let us forget it, like it never happened. Warriors can't put it down, can't forget because it is still happening to their minds.

Grieve the Warrior, You.

Whatever you think of them, or not think of them, doesn't change a thing. You have made them Warriors and Warrior forever they will be. You see I am a Warrior. No one ever says, "I was" or "I will be", but "I am." I am the price of your freedom. Your world exists because of mine, and mine exist because of yours. Your visions are many and varied, of bright and beautiful things to come. The visions of a Warrior are contained in one _____ A thousand-yard stare.

Never mind, the Warrior will grieve You.

L-3958, a Soviet 2-10-0 built in 1955, makes a brief stop at Bologoye-Polotskoye station.

To stimulate tourism in this economically depressed part of the country, in fall of 2018 Russian Railways made the decision to operate the regular local passenger train (6697/6698) from Bologoye to Ostashkov with steam power on Saturdays. While the idea behind it is to increase tourism, make no mistake - this a regular passenger train whose primary job is to serve as a local form of transportation. The vast majority of passengers aren't tourists, but little old babushkas just trying to get from village to village with their jars of mushrooms and pickled tomatoes. This is as authentic of an experience as you can get with a steam-hauled passenger train in the 21st century. The train takes three hours to traverse its 70-mile route and travels at speeds of 30-40 mph, making 13 stops in various villages along the way.

This shot is from 3 mins after yesterdays post as the peregrines got into the huge numbers of duck that had taken to the air - if it was bored with wigeon there are a couple of pintail and a teal in there if it fancied a change.

Of interest in this shot is that the female wigeons wing can be seen through the peregrines wing showing just how "unsolid" a birds wing is.

The BEST Humane Society in the Pacific Northwest [ IMHO] called to say they have room to take Rusty [ finally] after putting him on the waiting list in November. My appointment is friday at noon to take him in.

They are a [almost] no-kill shelter.

They have high adoption rates. Their facility is state of the art...it's GORGEOUS.

BUT....we have grown attached to Rusty. He causes havoc though...chases June & Keiko in our home...therefore, he has to be in his own room at night and only out of his room when we can supervise. Jasmine wants to eat him....seriously. And when we let him outside, our neighbor's ginger cat comes over and gives him a bad time. We just don't know what to do.

UPDATE:

Decision made. We will KEEP Rusty....maybe we'll ultimately find him a new home...if not, that's ok too...we'll make the best of the situation.

My decision to feature the South Pond as the first image for this project was influenced by the significant the pond has undergone. This past autumn was exceptionally warm and very dry. By, only a small area retained a minimal amount of water. Christmas brought over eight inches of fresh snow followed by 50-degree temperatures and more than an inch of rain. Two days after Christmas, the stream opened up and fed pond. Within two days, the pond filled with over six feet of water. By January 3rd, we experienced extremely cold temperatures, freezing the pond solid.

Life revolves around the ebb and flow of our ponds affecting all flora and fauna. We are thrilled by the prospect of a full pond, as it serves as a refuge for all wildlife now and for the incoming migratory birds this spring. now, we celebrate the frozen water and look forward to seeing the first signs of tadpoles.

As I sat monitoring the radio and the ATCS out of Roanoke, I heard the dispatcher trying to get NS 19M out of town. I was chasing a westbound ballast train on the Whitethorne district, but they were moving kind of slow, meeting a train, and so as 19M got the permission to 'head west', I had a decision to make. I could stay with the other train for a shot that would've been nice, or head to Shawsville to meet 19M. The sunlight made my choice pretty easy, as I knew I'd have this gorgeous late evening sunlight for this train, and then I had ANOTHER choice to make: do I go for the classic fence shot, or do I put the drone up, get some elevation, and do something different. I decided to put the drone up just to see, and I wasn't disappointed, and knew this was going to be it. So here is NS 19M as seen from about 30 feet off the ground, working up grade in Shawsville, Virginia at the John Farm. Yeah, I have PLENTY of shots from here from over the years: but how do you beat this light, the mountains, the farms, and the just generally unbelievable scenery on Norfolk Southern's Christiansburg district? I'm not sure you do, at least I've not yet found a place that does.

Made the last minute decision to go to London's Airshow...was not disappointed .
