The contrast of this early summer scene to what images and reporting from Ukraine's cities beat down by explosives night and day and then once occupied by piratical uniformed Russian troops could not be from dramatic. In this scene the constitutional rights, in addition to universal declaration of human rights to exist, all can be visualized. But where city services and infrastructure is destroyed and mass graves turn up in neighborhoods of small towns and big cities where the Russians have lain their greedy hands, little or no human decency survives.

I was going to call it "Toni, Recumbent", then "Toni, RecumBert", but then I thought that "cum" and "Bert" were a little too close together for decency, and the same argument applied nearly as well to the original title... So I realize that she's not actually couchant, but since she's on a couch, it works. :D

The "Have You No Decency" quote, here directed at Trump, is a complicated joke. The line is the most famous exchange from Senator Joe McCarthy's Communist witch-hunt hearings. McCarthy's lawyer and adviser was famously Roy Cohn. Years later, when Trump and his father were sued for housing discrimination by the New York Attorney General, they hired Roy Cohn as their lawyer--and Cohn, who bragged of being a mob lawyer, became a bit of a role model for Trump. (This is why Trump is always tweeting Witch Hunt! Witch Hunt!) The joke here, is that Roy Cohn, at first the lawyer for the world's most infamous commie-hater, later became the lawyer for the world's most notorious Putin-lover. McCarthy was eventually censured by the Senate, and Cohn near the end of his life was debarred. Trump will finally get to meet with his admired Putin, in Helsinki on July 16.

One of thousands of small grassroots protests organised in support of the heroes of Wisconsin, and also of all unions, public and private sector workers, middle and working class Americans being assaulted by the greed of corporations. A kind of tea party antidote.
Jimmy Carter (born 1924)
When Americans elected Jimmy Carter in 1976, they were voting for a positive change in executive leadership. Burdened by escalating costs of living and tired of recent scandal-ridden politics, they saw Carter as a fresh new face who would make, in his words, government “as good as the American people.” A born-again Christian, Carter touted his human decency to heal the divisions of post-Vietnam American society while also promising to fix the economy. Stemming high inflation, however, proved to be harder than he had predicted. Nor could he do much to ease the ongoing energy crisis, instigated by the cartel of oil producing nations, and characterized by a shortage of gas for consumers at the pumps and high costs for home heating oil. In 1978, Carter successfully brokered a landmark peace accord between Egypt and Israel, but the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979, spurred by the U.S. support of the unpopular Shah of Iran, crippled the last year of his administration. He lost a reelection bid to Ronald Reagan in 1980.
In this portrait by Robert Templeton, Carter is shown standing in the oval office, as it was during his tenure. The donkey statuette on his desk was a gift from the Democratic National Committee.

On a walk around the Addington Cemetery with a wonderful Flickr friend. February 13, 2016 Christchurch New Zealand.
There is so much damaged in the cemetery because of the earthquake we have had. It is such a pity as I don' think it will ever be fully repaired.
The Addington Cemetery was established in 1858 when the Scottish Presbyterians of St Andrew’s Church purchased land for a cemetery in Selwyn Street. Although not the first cemetery in Christchurch, Addington was in fact the first “public” cemetery, “being open to all persons of any religious community” and allowing the performance of any religious service “not contrary to public decency”.
The first burial took place on the 10th of November 1858. The cemetery has several persons of note buried within its grounds including activist Kate Sheppard, Christchurch Mayor Tommy Taylor and members of the pioneer family, the Deans.

I'm still gathering AOL cds as part of the accumulation project!!
If you find 'em, keep them for me! (This is one month's worth of accumulates.)
Process:
I will accumulate as many AOL cds as possible until the end of September 2006. I will enlist the help of friends and strangers through word of mouth, emails, craigslist, freecycle, and other existing social networks. The CDs are accumulated from where they are forced upon the public; primarily from people who have received them in the mail, or from publications where the cds are inserted as advertisements.
I will stack them and build "Pillars of Decency" (a funny comment on the wastefulness of this form of advertisement). The more I get, the taller the "Pillars" will be!

Tuberose stems unveil toxic wintergreen; narcotic blossoms stare at death across the street.
Nightfall. Window screens.
Treazon is tuberose at its darkest and most dangerous moment – right after dark.
From than on, the seemingly innocent little white flowers’ aroma is so intoxicating,
that young ladies were prohibited from walking through tuberose fields, from fear that
their decency will be betrayed, and their innocence defeated by lust.

Marquis De Sade
1740-1814
“Salacious,Sardonic, Sadistic”
Born a rich nobleman, Marquis being his title rather than his birth name, De Sade gradually became a decadent libertine among the French society of Louis XVI. A liberally educated iconoclast, he wrote prose and verse, and specialized in testing the limits of decency, breaking tabboos and shocking the aristocracy, often with sordid details drawn from real life. He was thought to have committed much of the perversions and debauchery he had written about. He was incarcerated in an asylum shortly before the French Revolution. After a decade of feverish creativity, he willingly gave up writing and lived his remaining years in uneventful calm.

At a playdate yesterday the moms were all discussing the possibility of radiation harming our little angels here in California. All I could do is feel just SICK thinking about the poor mommies who live near Fukushima Daiichi. They don't have the luxury of debating what to do. I pray for their babies (both ickle and big). I pray for the workers trying to cool the reactors, risking their own lives.
I am glued to the news. I feel powerless.
My prayers continue to go out to the people of Japan. I pray for those who have lost their homes, for those in darkness. For SO many rescue workers and regular citizens trying to come together to help. I am impressed by the decency and dignity of the Japanese people in the face of disaster. We in America have a lot to learn from them.
I have done my little donations and listed some things on ebay for charity but I wish I could do more. I guess I can start with getting Sherman microchipped and buying that extra bag of dog food ...

"Common Decency and the STATE LAW health and safety code require that you WASH YOUR HANDS before leaving this room to resume work." Someone added, "Or eat."
This was the first time I'd ever seen "common decency" added to this kind of sign. Sort of begs the question, though...if it were that common, would we need a sign?

- Sir William Deane, Governor-General of Australia, 1996 - 2001, Gallipoli, 25 April 1999
According to popular legend it was built about 1255 by the infante Frederick, brother of King Alfonso X, as a love-nest for his mistress, La Doña Juana, who was also his stepmother, the second wife of the previous king, Ferdinand III. Frederick was executed by his brother, either for the offence against public decency, or, more likely, for treason against the crown.
Either way Frederick’s land around the tower was confiscated, and in 1289 was used for the founding of a Franciscan convent.
After two months of fighting back and forth with Time Warner Cable, a tech visited and spent about 3 hours in my building trying to find our problem. It was finally discovered that the cable wires in our building were so old that they had been chewed through by rats. Frustrated, I asked the tech why it took 2 full months and 3 or 4 tech visits to figure this out when it could have been resolved soon after move in. His supervisor also dropped in during this visit and although the tech was polite, the supervisor cut me off when I was talking and yelled that it wasn't their fault and they weren't doing anything about it. While this was technically true, I just wanted sympathy and maybe an apology for how long it took their imcompetent team to figure out what was going on. When I finally asked him to leave my apartment because I didn't like his tone, he grabbed his tools and slammed out of my front door, leaving my cable outlet looking like this.
I learned my lesson about dealing with TWC and got Dish Network instead and have been a happy customer since October.
