Not strictly a Finsec event, but here's a few photos of the Service and Food Workers' Union Nga Ringa Tota rally in Wellington on International Cleaners Day.

The 'Fair Deal for Cleaners' campaign that this rally is part of aims to provide a voice to the low-waged largely immigrant female workforce, in cities across Australia and New Zealand, who are calling on big property owners to support decency in their workplaces.

Hi Guys please share comment and let me know what you think. These 3 images are 1 My original copyrighted image. The second is a NEXT T Shirt. And the last is my image layered over the T shirt with a 50% opacity so you can see the shirt through my image. Next have NOT even had the decency to ask to use the shot or offered anything for the shot they have just taken the image from online and used it. The shirt is so popular if you look on the website it has already sold out in many sizes

Don't bother threatening me, it's a waste of time

I've got just what I need to bring you down

Conniving sentiment

This is the last time you can have your way

You can't stop me

You'll see my face again,

You'll see my face again soon

Think of the days behind you,

Know that they've lined up here to end

I knew I saw through you

One more mistake you'll have to face the one,

Who takes it all

I knew I saw through you

One more mistake you'll have to face the one,

Who takes it all away

How is it living with no decency?

Think about all the people you've let down

Deceitful elements

Have lead this unexpected turn for you worst

You can't stop me

You'll see my face again,

You'll see my face again soon

Think of the days behind you,

Know that they've lined up here to end

I knew I saw through you

One more mistake you'll have to face the one,

Who takes it all

I knew I saw through you

One more mistake you'll have to face the one,

Toronto, perhaps a better view of a bright and wonderful city than the one that is being seen all over the world right now in the news because of an errant rogue Mayor who want give up his seat in the name of common decency. Taken from Port Credit on a cold and windy November day.

A number of internet companies have challenged modifications in Section 230 of Communication Decency Act. This Act protects them from legal responsibility for the content that might pass through their websites. If someone managed sex trafficking on their websites without their knowledge, they don’t need to be sued.

I've been seriously thinking about legally changing my name. This is now the fourth time I've sat down and really thought about it and each time, I am more convinced that I should do it especially with the new business.

If you have a simple name, count yourself lucky. My name and its origins are actually very complicated. Starting with my first name. I am named after my aunt who died before I was born. Unfortunately my mother couldn't really bring herself to call me by my first name despite picking it because it was rather painful to do because my aunt died young, both she and my dad started calling me by my middle name which is my dad's mother's maiden name. Friends were often confused when they came over because they wondered who "this person" was that my parents were calling me. My last name is the strangest of them all. It has no family history at all. Apparently my dad's father picked the name off of a traveling doctor who was passing through and simply adopted it as his own, so I'm not really sure what if any family name we have on my dad's side.

Here is where the frustration kicks in. In my whole entire life, I'm talking birth until now, there have been exactly 3 people to EVER pronounce it correctly. One was a fifth grade teacher who had my brother a few years before me, the second was a substitute teacher, and the third was my high school choir teacher who was a former opera singer. That's it! Can you imagine what that's like. Every time I answer the phone I must endure some person on the other end not only butchering my name, but then asking me how I pronounce it, then when I do phonetically spell it out for them, they either continue to pronounce it incorrectly, or they laugh and say, oh well, I'll just call you by your first name. I find that absolutely disrespectful when I come across the latter. I understand if you can't get it--American tongues don't really get the sounds correctly, but at least have the decency to have some respect for the person and whatever heritage they may have attached to their name.

Anyway, I've had enough. I thought for a long time about the name because I thought it had a little more relevance, but knowing its more random than anything, I don't feel the need to attach to it. I thought about taking on my mother's maiden name which I like, but I'm rather attached to my initials. I used them in such a creative way for the first ever name I had for my photog business so in that way they are sentimental to me. For two years now, I've been using the name I'd like to use on my business cards and website. I only accept credit/debit/cash, so writing checks to me is not an option, therefore I haven't had to deal with it, but I find its much easier with the shortened version of my last name, to conduct business without all this upfront hubaloo of people screwing it up.

I did some research and the only thing stopping me now is laziness. It's this processssss with about 20 steps to it involving multiple forms, notaries, going to court, being interviewed by a judge, more required signatures, paying upwards of $300, and finally getting your name changed on all of your cards and social security and the like.

By the by, I hope this doesn't rock your worlds, but I've been going by a nickname on Flickr. At first when I joined I refused to give out my name, but several people kept poking and poking wondering what to address me as, so I just gave a nickname, Bee or Bev, and have been going by that ever since on here and if you notice whenever I talk about friends or family I only use the first letter of their names. It's just to protect myself, friends, family. I talk about a lot of stuff and I try to be as open as possible as these are essentially records of my days as footnotes of my life to myself. As much as I've come to respect a lot of you Flickrati out there, I don't know the you-you's? I only know the internet yous which for all I know, could be anybody, so in that way, I don't think you need to know "everything" about me. I've met a lot of people here and other social media type sites the feel the same way. There are just too many crazies out there and my trust is at a high high premium.

Image: here are the pulled up carrots. Not that big at all despite it being 3 weeks over the time alleged for harvest. I think the soil was just too compact for them to really grow outdoors, so I've started a new batch indoors which I'll transfer out later in a giant tub. These are supposed to get to 6-7 inches at least, but these came out more like 3, maybe 4 inches each.

Integrity is praised and starves.

The Marshes of Glynn is one of Sidney Lanier's poems featured in "Hymns of the Marshes," an unfinished set of lyrical nature poems that describe the open salt marshes of Glynn County in coastal Georgia. The poem describes a marsh in detail, while evoking senses of patience and common decency.

Some eye candy by the lakeside in the Xixi park. The two girls in summer dress had got off the boardwalk and trying to take pictures of themselves near the waterlilies close by. They were using their iPhones. I blatantly pointed the camera at them and took this shot, but they fortunately ignored me completely. Probably the presence of the Chinese family with me (my friends) helped a bit. However decency and common courtesy demanded that I did not attempt to take more than one shot of them. We are now in the Xixi Wetlands Reserve in Hangzhou, China and are heading towards the exit. Detailed notes about the reserve appear in previous captions, earlier in this album. I could stand for

Introvert

Introvert people are difficult

to know

you know

On the outside

they seem calm

so calm

They can even

be

immobile sometimes

almost as if nothing happened

inside them

as if they were detached

distant

cold, even

You tell them something

moving

and they don't seem to react

as if

they didn't have emotions

or

barely

Now

tell me ...

is it worth

talking

coming closer

to someone who has

so little

emotions

?

Wouldn't that be

a giant waste

of you life ?

But

but

before you answer

ladies and gentlemen

come closer

don't be afraid

and

come

have a look inside

have a good look

if you please

Don't be afraid

but hold tight

for it may be a bumpy ride

Inside

inside

is a different story

Inside

everything that happens

every emotion

every single bit of it

is

felt

and

lived

fully

and

with

intensity

Every wave of

feeling

is resounding

and bouncing

and echoing

It gets so amplified

that any emotion

can become a tidal wave

shaking everything

inside

and then some more

Most of the time

it stays inside

and

even when fire rages within every limb

and

even when the heart is ready to explode

and

even when tears are drowning him inside

and

even when a scream of joy fills his every bone

the outside remains

calm

apparently

Hovewer

ladies and gentlemen

with attention

careful attention

you could see

you could know

and even feel

what is going on inside

Oh yes

and sometimes

some of you among the assistance already know this I'm sure

sometimes

in some circumstances

say for instance when they are fully submerged by an emotion so strong

or

say in some intimate circumstances

that decency will prevent us from detailing any further

and they let it all out

oh then

you will not require such a careful attention anymore

and

that fire coming from will wipe out anything standing in front of them

But

ladies and gentlement

fear not

for these occurrences are

only

for the few who can dare to approach them

close enough

long enough

For the rest of us

they will continue to appear

as if nothing happens

Take this man for instance

yes this one

This picture of him could have been taken a few days ago

and he would have looked the same, I'm sure

as if nothing had happened in between

Maybe a slight change in the brightness of his eyes

or in the shape of the corner of his mouth

or in the way he pronounces certain words

would have revealed

to the keenest observer

the enormity of what just happened inside him

A very rare event

truth be told

as a few fingers would be enough to count the times something similar happened

A very rare

and

extremely

violent

event

Imagine

an exlosion

No ... wait ... an implosion

Yes ... an implosion

Imagine

an implosion

Imagine

everything inside

every thing

suddenly

in an instant

sucked in

shrinked into a tiny tiny particle

the size of a half a grain of dust

as if

everything

inside

disappeared

in an instant

in a blinding flash of light

with a PFFFFFFT-like sound

Imagine

a super nova

in reverse

inside of a man

Imagine

everything he believed

everything he knew

everything he had built

inside

wiped out

into void

in half a second

Imagine

the sudden

absolute

emptiness

Imagine

nothing left

to hold on

Imagine

wait ...

wait another second ...

did I say that everything was wiped out ?

really ?

oh

well ... this is not fully accurate

wait ...

because

after the first shock

after the feeling of loss

after the immense pain

when the blood started to flow in his veins again

when he started breathing again

when he finally came back to his senses

he could see it

clearly

This tiny tiny speck

of dust

floating in the middle of the inner void

all that was left

after the comfortable clutter which was filling him before just got annihilated

a tiny speck of dust

which laid hidden

under layers and layers of useless furniture

piled up for years

Mere shadows

they were

Light invaded him

and went though everything

and wiped out all the shadows

leaving only this speck of dust

for him to see

and to hold on

A speck of dust as a fixed point

inside

a grain of dust

containing every he is

a grain of dust

containing

his essence

his very nature

his every dream

a grain of sand

which

he would now have to let grow

unfold

inside of him

let it get bigger

let it fill him

in place of the old shadows of fear

a grain of dust

which was not fully lost

and found again

...

Maybe

by getting really close

you could have seen it as it happened

in the way his eyes blinked

From 1977 to 1982 I had the honor to work for Idaho Governor John Evans. He was a quiet and exceptional leader who set the highest examples of integrity and decency in public service, qualities needed so much more today. His work lives on through all the best qualities of our lives in Idaho..

Jimmy Carter (born 1924)

When Americans elected Jimmy Carter in 1976, they were voting for a positive change in executive leadership. Burdened by escalating costs of living and tired of recent scandal-ridden politics, they saw Carter as a fresh new face who would make, in his words, government “as good as the American people.” A born-again Christian, Carter touted his human decency to heal the divisions of post-Vietnam American society while also promising to fix the economy. Stemming high inflation, however, proved to be harder than he had predicted. Nor could he do much to ease the ongoing energy crisis, instigated by the cartel of oil producing nations, and characterized by a shortage of gas for consumers at the pumps and high costs for home heating oil. In 1978, Carter successfully brokered a landmark peace accord between Egypt and Israel, but the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979, spurred by the U.S. support of the unpopular Shah of Iran, crippled the last year of his administration. He lost a reelection bid to Ronald Reagan in 1980.

In this portrait by Robert Templeton, Carter is shown standing in the oval office, as it was during his tenure. The donkey statuette on his desk was a gift from the Democratic National Committee.

This package of Sunflower seeds was given to me at the LGBT Pride festival last year by the mother of Sean Kennedy. He was murdered in a hate crime against him because his sexual orientation. I spoke at length with this courageous woman, Elke Kennedy who spends most of her time now spreading her sons tragic story and educating people about hate crimes. www.seanslastwish.org/ She gives out the sunflower seed packets as a tangible symbol of hope for a future free of hate. It is my wish that she doesnt have to crusade for what I would consider "common decency" anymore.

This car drove into my picture. How dare it! At least it had the decency to (somewhat) match the building.

While waiting at Gate H9 for my flight to Washington I witnessed an unattractive argument. Essentially, it was a simple matter of someone charging ahead of the line to ask a question out of turn. What surprised me was that the Spirit Airlines gate agent simply settled back to let the spectacle unfold without doing anything. Both parties eventually settled into a glowering match after an initial screaming match. I know that Spirit is the aviation equivalent of Kmart. I know. Still, basic decency should be encouraged by the airline personnel.

In the end, I'l still probably fly with Spirit because of their seductively (and deceptively, I should add) cheap fares.

Grandma Julie was in charge of the girls. Well, she was supposed to be in charge of the girls. Does it look like an adult was in charge? You should have seen the mud tracked up and down Julia's back. And Evelyn may or may not have been worse. At least Grandma Julie had the decency to run a load of laundry following the escapade.

Catching up on some back shots from the beginning of the year

On a walk around the Addington Cemetery with a wonderful Flickr friend. February 13, 2016 Christchurch New Zealand.

There is so much damaged in the cemetery because of the earthquake we have had. It is such a pity as I don' think it will ever be fully repaired.

The Addington Cemetery was established in 1858 when the Scottish Presbyterians of St Andrew’s Church purchased land for a cemetery in Selwyn Street. Although not the first cemetery in Christchurch, Addington was in fact the first “public” cemetery, “being open to all persons of any religious community” and allowing the performance of any religious service “not contrary to public decency”.

The first burial took place on the 10th of November 1858. The cemetery has several persons of note buried within its grounds including activist Kate Sheppard, Christchurch Mayor Tommy Taylor and members of the pioneer family, the Deans.

So... A ways back in history it was no real issue to have an earnest expression of goodwill towards others, be it in person or on advertisements, by saying something to the effect of "Merry Christmas" or perhaps a picture of Santa looking benevolent. This is no new issue, and it's a topic that has in the past been brought up and conjectured upon at great length no doubt. So why am I writing a longwinded dissertation on the matter? Because I like to write, it allows me to vent, and if you're still reading this then I guess in part I'm writing it for you. I like to think about society and discuss it because it makes me laugh more than anything I can think of. Only a group of mammals that believe they are the master race and above reproach can aspire to such hieghts of order, yet need seven signs on an automatic door ( a device that should shock no-one to see day-to-day)so that people don't get hurt or secondly sue. I digress... this was about religion and the holidays. So here's my take on it. I, as you would know if you read my profile, am accepting of all people's faith orientations as long as it doesn't infringe on certain indisputable logic and decency standards. But I must admit, why take out Santa and the "Merry Christmas" from all of our season's greetings? Doesn't that slight the Christians? They already accepted defeat with X-mas ( which basically is like Jesus being illiterate and having to put an X down for his name, how blasphemous is that!) for cryin' out loud. To go further though, doesn't something like "Sparkle Season" just demean everyone of every faith? I personally would not take offence to seeing a commercial centered around the lighting of the menorah rather than a Christmas tree. I'd cheer the direction. Which is why I love Christmahanukkwanza. It only cuts off one letter from each faith that have the biggest hold on the holiday season. Now yes, it is a bit funny at first, and whoever thought it up originally probably meant it to only be a larf, but I like the idea of it. I hope the image comes off as nuetral enough. I didn't have anything really to symbolize Jewish traditions and I'll have to go on wikipedia to find out about Kwanzaa more... but I like the starburst effect on each light a lot. Well in closing, enjoy December, I hear there's a lot to like in it.
