Parenti said there is no reason for the U.S. to continue to be a superpower.

“The British Empire was the thing until World War II. Then afterwards, England become a much healthier and happier country. When they got rid or their empire, they put in their medical care programs. The socialists came into power for a few years. The same could happen in the U.S. I find that Americans are liked. When I spoke in London at a talk, the audience loved it. They like to like Americans; they hate America. They like some things about us, our humor, our carefree something or other. We can be liked but I don’t think that is very important. I don’t want to see the world arranged just so that Americans are more liked and all that sort of thing. I want the world arranged so that people can live in peace and decency and have enough to survive.”

This package of Sunflower seeds was given to me at the LGBT Pride festival last year by the mother of Sean Kennedy. He was murdered in a hate crime against him because his sexual orientation. I spoke at length with this courageous woman, Elke Kennedy who spends most of her time now spreading her sons tragic story and educating people about hate crimes. www.seanslastwish.org/ She gives out the sunflower seed packets as a tangible symbol of hope for a future free of hate. It is my wish that she doesnt have to crusade for what I would consider "common decency" anymore.

I'd have hoped that a cyclist attending a cycle week event would have some decency about behaving properly! But this woman couldn't be arsed to stop at the kerbside and walk her bike over the pavement to park it while she piled in to the free Cyclists' Breakfast.

In September 2007, my fiancee's Auntie May died at age 97. Auntie May lived for 60 years in what she called her "little house" in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

My fiancee recalls childhood and young adulthood visits to that house, telling stories with her auntie until late at night with May insisting she sleep in her bedroom (May would go to sleep in the guest room at the back of her small home).

Although she had a tiny kitchen, family, friends, and neighbors filled it up while she cooked for them. The love, the integrity, the decency--and sharp, wicked sense of humor--showed by my fiancee's auntie touched many she knew.

Before she died, Auntie May said to my fiancee: "I feel really bad for young people today and and I'm glad I won't be around for much longer. Although I'm lucky to have been alive when I was, our generation wrecked the world for future generations."

This abiding sense of responsibility from a housewife who, after her husband died, worked at a local dress shop for more than a decade.

May she rest in peace and may the sanctuary she provided for others in her home live on inside them, giving them strength and an idea about how to build community in small yet powerful ways.

You can say what you want about the youth of today; they're not all bad.

Some of them have the decency to do their "thing" on surfaces as interesting as this textured glass here.

I don't often say "you must look at this in large size", but the thumbnail doesn't do this one justice.

I've done some of the work, now I need to know what the silver kid is saying to the 'know it all'. Bearing in mind that there's a teacher nearby, it should not breach standards of good taste and decency.

Feel free to leave a comment with your suggestions. No swear words / bad language *please*.

This year's show brought students from both Lloydminster & Vermilion campuses together to show off their style, budgeting and presentation skills. Students had a $33.33 budget each to go out into the community and purchase an outfit and appropriate accessories for a Business Awards Banquet.

They were expected to practice their budgeting skills as they shopped for their outfits. Contestants had to show a good taste in fashion and decency. Finally, contestants were tested on their presentation and interpersonal skills as they walked up and down the runway and answered questions from our ‘celebrity’ judges.

The main idea here is to challenge the notion that students have to spend a lot of money to look good for work. Most students struggle with money and this show is a fun way of capturing budgeting, fashion and presentation skills.

Revving up for a last (ish) hurrah.

Although the trespass sign is probably more than 20 years old, it was the Ingham & Sons tile, discreetly hidden behind the lamp post, that interested me. Under all of those layers of white paint are, no doubt some lovely glazed bricks. At least the painters had the decency not to obliterate the manufacturers name.

"Walking In My Shoes"

'I would tell you about the things,

They put me through.

The pain I've been subjected to.

But the Lord himself would blush.

The countless feasts laid at my feet,

Forbidden fruits for me to eat.

But I think your pulse would start to rush.

Now I'm not looking for absolution,

Or forgiveness for the things I do.

But before we come to any conclusions,

Try walking in my shoes.

Try walking in my shoes.

You'll stumble in my footsteps.

Keep the same appointments I've kept.

If you try walking in my shoes.

If you try walking in my shoes.

Morality would frown upon,

And decency look down upon,

The scapegoat fate's made of me.

But I'll tell you now, my judge and jurors.

Intentions couldn't have been purer.

My case is easy to see.

I'm not looking for a clearer conscience.

Peace of mind after what I've been through.

But before we talk of any repentance,

Try walking in my shoes.

Try walking in my shoes.

You'll stumble in my footsteps.

Keep the same appointments I've kept.

If you try walking in my shoes.

Try walking in my shoes.

Try walking in my shoes.

Now I'm not looking for the absolution,

Or forgiveness for the things I do.

But before you come to any conclusions.

Try walking in my shoes.

Try walking in my shoes.

You'll stumble in my footsteps.

Keep the same appointments I've kept.

If you try walking in my shoes.'

Original song performed by Depeche Mode.

------------------------

I seem to run before I walk; do things with ignorance despite lack of premeditated intentions.

I've had my share of frustration, anger, and pain. I've done things that were foolish, yet were out of ignorance. I've put myself through hell and back.

My family has been my steadying arm, and my running shoes keep stress of life from pushing me off the edge.

Now that I got my lab-work back, I can release a sigh of relief. For now, the reasons for hitting a low point in my life don't matter any more. It is about as close to a clean slate as I can get.

For now, I'll keep running. If your looking for control over me and my life I'll pass you by quick. If you want to join parts of it, well, maybe I am asking for people keep up and run with me for a little bit.
