Yes, I actually sit like that in my chair all day while I work. No, my left hand isn't some weird sorta lobster claw or whatever.
The hunter had become the hunted. Some smart arse sneaked up on my with my own camera. At least I have the decency to keep his face out of the shot.
Well that's a fine how-do-you-do. All that work and the log doesn't even have the decency to roll itself out of the trail.
The cats managed to brake in the closet where we keep the catfood and all kinds of plastic bags.
All three cats had bitten their way into the catfood bag. The girls had the decency to hide in shame. Kiwi just sat there. I think he might had eaten a little too much in order to move...

Rowena Crest Viewpoint, Columbia Gorge, Oregon
Since I had another weekend that I had to work, I decided to leave my place by 3:40am Saturday and head up to Rowena for a sunrise with the Balsamroot. I was happy I did because the sunrise turned out to be pretty nice as well as there were a few other photographers I knew that I ran into. Since there was a bit of wind I had to raise my iso to achieve the faster shutter speeds to compensate for the moving Balsamroot. I was unable to get some of the views I wanted with my tripod so I decided to go handheld to get these lower views. Laying on the ground increased my chances of getting friendly with the local ticks but I felt it was worth the risk. It was good to be out and about even if it was just for a little while.
Two exposure blend, 1 for the ground and 1 for the sky.
Also I finally made the decision to upgrade to Lightroom 4 and this is my first test. I loved the noise reduction in Lightroom 3 but find myself even happier with this result from Lightroom 4.
I went to good old V V Boutique (value village) after work yesterday and bought this set of ruffly curtains (just a couple bucks!)
Made this dress today on location for the shoot! (totally not sewn at all - just hung and held in place!)
Planning to use it to shoot again!
Might stitch it a wee bit so I don't brake any decency laws

The new railway station in North Bridge Street,
Monkwearmouth was opened on 19 June 1848. It
was the new Sunderland terminus for the Brandling
Junction Railway, opened in 1839, that linked
Wearside with South Shields and Gateshead. It
replaced a basic wooden station in Roker Avenue of
which it was said: “the usual accommodation
provided for civilised people was wanting at this, as at
almost every other Brandling Junction station.” It was
also said that people at the station were subject to:
“frequent breaches of public decency.”
George Hudson, then chairman of the Midland
Railway company and known as “The Railway King”,
wanted to mark his successful election as MP for
Sunderland and commissioned Thomas Moore
(1796 - 1869), the leading architect in Victorian
Sunderland, to design the station.
Monkwearmouth proved to be a busy station
between 1848 and 1879, catering for a wide range of
passengers, as well as handling shipments of cows
and sheep. In 1879, when the North Eastern Railway
Company extended the line across the river for the
first time, Monkwearmouth lost much of its
importance as a major station. By the 1950s parts of
the station had become derelict and passenger
numbers were dwindling. In 1967 it was closed to
travellers and in 1970 all railway use ended, however
to this day, trains still pass through the station from
Sunderland to Newcastle.
The building was saved from dereliction by
Sunderland Corporation and was reopened as a
Museum by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in 1973.

We played a gig at the opening of an exhibition by Artists UAF (Unite Aginst Facism).
Last night the fascist British National Party (BNP) suffered their worst ever defeat by losing all council seats in Barking and the crushing defeat of their leader Nick Griffin.
Here's a quote from Margaret Hodge, the Labour MP who won the seat in Barking:

This nude was painted onto the original portrait of Sir Robert Menzies which was a finalist in the 1950 Archibald Prize.
Arrangements were made by Ian Fitchett (R.G. Menzies's Press Secretary and a former journalist and friend of Bill's) to have Menzies sit for the painting.
“This entry for the Archibald prize has created a lot of interest and keen and favourable comment. ‘Wep’ is regarded by fellow artists and the soundest critics as one of the best contemporary portrait painters. He is, of course, a great cartoonist with a style which is inimitable. ‘Wep’s’ work truly reveals the Prime Minister’s qualities of loyalty, efficiency, regard for decency and truth and, in times of stress like the present, trustworthiness and clear thinking.” – Liberal Opinion, Feb 1951, Vol. 4, No. 4, p1
Bill however was not happy with the portrait, particularly how the right hand was placed and looked somewhat unnatural. He set about to paint a second portrait revising the hand and the background. He fiddled with that portrait for nearly 20 years until he was happy with it, finaling signing it in 1969.
The Archibald Prize portrait in turn during the 1960s came in for some modification with a nude female figure draped over Menzies lap. It was quite a talking poiunt for visitors to Northwood and much admired. Menzies almost appeared to be smiling.
After Bill’s death, Dorothy arranged to have a number of Bill’s paintings restored and reframed by the reknowned Charles Hewitt.The now modified Archibald Prize finalist was folded in half and cut in two to create two separate paintings. The upper half was further cut down to a portrait the head of Menzies and was left unframed (BX57_255). It is now part of the William Edwin Pidgeon Archives at the National Library of Australia.

well, the first picture is what i would call having your 'rose colored glasses' on. like the ideal world, but the second picture is how it really is.
in the ideal world, the girl on the left of the first picture had her child, but in the real world, she had an abortion (that's why there's no baby).
And the two laughing in the first picture are actually a hooker and a...player i guess you'd call him.
and of course the last man on the bench is looking for a job, but in reality he just lost his job and has lost hope (hence the lyrics!).

The 'system' is the 'Driver's Manual'... the rules of the road. This is law. This is what everyone agrees on without question. The laws of the road/drivng are such that they are extremly fair, keeps us safe, and are applied uniformly. This is what we call as a 'levelled system'. The playing field is levelled for all. It is fair. There are no grafts and nepotism, or partiality towards anyone. Result: Everyone is relatively safe and happy. You stop at stop signs and red lights. But you also 'disobey' the red light if an abulance or flashing siren passes. Why? Because an emergency over-rules the stop light. There is no fighting over these points. The law is well written, what action precedes what, in a given situation, is very clear. When you can make a right turn (in small towns), but you cannot make a right turn in a city, is very clear. No one disputes these rules. The reason is they are written to keep us ALL safe. It has nothing to do with sexism, racism, nepotism, whatever-ism. The 'system' of road safety is undoubtedly fair. No one protests against it. All drunk and drug offenders are taken to court. No one questions the fairness or unfairness of the officer who sends you to court. The law is clear. Your BAC determines if you will be detained or let go.
So also, media has the ability to see deep into the 'political system'. They know every detail about the system, where it is fair and where it is unfair. They can play a part in 'levelling' out the system almost better than any other group, if only they formed a union that wants to be an advocate to level the 'political system', and make it fair. Their reach into every system can 'level out' any system into complete fairness. But it must copy the successful framework/system of the rules of the road/driving, if it is to work correctly. This method can be applied to any system. Instead of just talking about it, you can yourself bring about the needed changes.
What would stop them from doing that? I don't know. But they can, they could, if they wanted to. That is their choice.
There's going to be people and groups that say, "We are already a country of laws and the law is equally applied all over, and all is well" There are others who will say "definitely not, some laws are absurd, and some are not equally applied". So that's where levelling comes in.
A clear example would be, there are some instances when the priority is lost. For example, when at a stop light, a flashing ambulance doesn't get the right of way. Why? Because its a stop light and we MUST stop no matter what. Because the law says STOP at a stop light. Now that can kill someone in an ambulance because the law was improperly written. These cases where priority is lost and the result is unfair, these must also be looked into, to level the system.
Finally, law and application of the punishment. That is the final system that needs levelling. There are other areas to look into as well. What are the causes of breaking of the law? Is it economic? What economic solutions can be put in place to avoid breaking of the law.... and so forth.

On a walk around the Addington Cemetery with a wonderful Flickr friend. February 13, 2016 Christchurch New Zealand.
There is so much damaged in the cemetery because of the earthquake we have had. It is such a pity as I don' think it will ever be fully repaired.
The Addington Cemetery was established in 1858 when the Scottish Presbyterians of St Andrew’s Church purchased land for a cemetery in Selwyn Street. Although not the first cemetery in Christchurch, Addington was in fact the first “public” cemetery, “being open to all persons of any religious community” and allowing the performance of any religious service “not contrary to public decency”.
The first burial took place on the 10th of November 1858. The cemetery has several persons of note buried within its grounds including activist Kate Sheppard, Christchurch Mayor Tommy Taylor and members of the pioneer family, the Deans.

Trollhattan's workers union, shot on an evening walk, from great distance. Actually, I've been on an island in the middle of the river, and this was out on the riverside.
Pushed the camera to the very limits of decency, just for the proof of the concept: ISO1600, 105mm, 1/20s, f/5.6, handheld!
Please excuse the crap photo. (Is it as bad as I think it is?) Today is not a photoshoot day, apparently. To begin with, it's kind of miserable outside - hence the horrible camera flash. Cordi's pants popped open when I wasn't looking and I'm feeling too lazy to reshoot so, in the name of decency, I've photoshopped them closed again. And to top it all off, I put the darn hat on backwards so there's a lovely little divot above her left eye where I apparently did a sloppy job covering up the join in the first round. Grrr... (argh...)
But, because I've got nothing better to do today (aside from all the housework I'm avoiding), here's Cordi sporting her new Firefly-inspired hat. I've got a similar one, but self-portraits are not my thing on a good day, and this is not a good day.

Raul Castro has offered to release some Cuban political prisoners in exchange for the release of Cuban agents held in US jails. The Cuban agents have been convicted of spying and plotting assassinations in the US. This offer has been directed at President elect Obama.
Clearly this is not a decent offer. The people held in the Cuban jails are just brave honorable people campaigning for ordinary freedoms that are standard in decent societies. The writers, journalists and democrats incarcerated in Cuban jails absolutely deserve to be free. The fact that they are in jail is just totally obscene. They utterly completely deserve to be free already...........they have committed no crime!
They deserve freedom so much that maybe Obama should take up the sordid offer. Even though It really is sordid to equate those who use the freedoms available in the US to plot the murder of others ...... with the actions of people campaigning for open democracy and the right to free speech. There can be no moral equivalence.
I have sometimes been amazed and impressed that Israel will release hundreds of prisoners to get back even the body of one Israeli solider. In my view making concessions to drag your enemy do what decency demands with no price makes the actions of your enemy look even more obscene. Maybe Obama should act in the same way. The freedom of even a single democrat or a single writer is worth the cost of releasing these disgusting murder plotters.
The newly elected Obama should and will tower above the sordid Castro brothers and their 50 years of clutching to power through their vile police state. In my view Obama should take this obscene offer just to win the freedom of people who should so clearly be free already and have never even been arrested in the first place......... and what's more....... Obama in my view should drop all restrictions on trade and movement. It's only the Castro's that have benefitted from Cuba's isolation it has allowed them to get on with oppressing the people of Cuba in private.
