The line at the United check-in counter--it was 90% foreigners, as was my flight to Chicago (where I caught a connecting flight to Atlanta), and since they were operating by American standards, they were all in line 2.5 hours early, which is earlier than most Japanese travelers. I had some massive reverse culture shock at the airport--not counting JET get-togethers, I hadn't seen that many gaijin in one place in nearly 11 months, since Tokyo Orientation.
I couldn't help but feel a bit disdainful, and even appalled, because the whole spectrum of American tourists was present, including some fairly snooty and snappy travelers...and there were girls wearing spaghetti-strap, stomach-revealing shirts, which is a big ダメ. For god's sake, if you travel to another country, especially when you know it's more conservative, at least have the decency to research that country's culture and customs, including the dress code. You just can't wear that stuff in Japan.

Cross Bones Graveyard
Cross Bones Graveyard was a mediaeval burial ground, situated in St Saviour’s parish, now Redcross Way SE1. There is a long established tradition that it was a final resting place for ‘Winchester Geese’, ie prostitutes, from the legalised brothels or 'stews' of Bankside. This dates back to the days when the Bishop of Winchester ran Bankside and licensed the ‘Geese’.
Stow, in his Survey of London in 1603, describes the burial site as being appointed to single women forbidden the rites of the church so long as they continued a sinful life. However, by Victorian times, when the area was stricken by poverty and disease, the site was used as a pauper’s burial ground.
Cross Bones Graveyard was finally closed in 1853 on the grounds that it was ‘completely overcharged with dead’ and that further burials were ‘inconsistent with a due regard for the public health and public decency’. A warehouse was built upon it.
Recent archaeological digs for the Jubilee Line extension have uncovered evidence of a highly overcrowded graveyard where bodies are piled up on top of each other and tests have shown that many of the bodies are women and children with diseases ranging from smallpox, TB and paget’s disease to osteoarthritis and vitamin D deficiency.
These are tributes placed by atavists keen on consecrating the ground and leaving the site untouched so the dead can finally rest in peace.

Catching up on some back shots from the beginning of the year
On a walk around the Addington Cemetery with a wonderful Flickr friend. February 13, 2016 Christchurch New Zealand.
There is so much damaged in the cemetery because of the earthquake we have had. It is such a pity as I don' think it will ever be fully repaired.
The Addington Cemetery was established in 1858 when the Scottish Presbyterians of St Andrew’s Church purchased land for a cemetery in Selwyn Street. Although not the first cemetery in Christchurch, Addington was in fact the first “public” cemetery, “being open to all persons of any religious community” and allowing the performance of any religious service “not contrary to public decency”.
The first burial took place on the 10th of November 1858. The cemetery has several persons of note buried within its grounds including activist Kate Sheppard, Christchurch Mayor Tommy Taylor and members of the pioneer family, the Deans.

Well, this is my first ever moving image/ video I have ever created. We had a brief at Uni to produce a 25 second moving image to advertise shoes. A brand, a style, whatever. I chose converse, and I decided to go with how converse take you through life. So my idea was to show one guy going through the different stages of life wearing converse. I hope you like it! It got picked as the best from my class!

“A tragic incident occurred during yesterday's match.
Demirspor goalkeeper and team captain Necdet attacked referee Tarık, injuring him in the eye. The referee declared the match abandoned and Demirspor defeated.
The last match of the national league championship, which had been rumored for days, was played yesterday at Fenerbahçe Stadium between Galatasaray and Demirspor. A tragic incident, unprecedented in sports history, occurred, resulting in the match being abandoned and Demirspor declared defeated.
The incident in question is that Demirspor's goalkeeper and captain, Necdet, attacked referee Tarık, punching him in the eye and causing a large gash on his face. There have been numerous fights between players and spectators on our sports fields, but none of the players have ever assaulted the referee. In yesterday's match, the referee was ultimately assaulted.
Nearly ten thousand spectators gathered at Fenerbahçe Stadium yesterday. Everyone was eagerly awaiting this match, which would determine the national league champion. The teams had been in training camp for a week and had been preparing. However, because the match had been turned into a game of nerves rather than a regular game, it hardly seemed like an enjoyable match to watch.

The game began in a heated atmosphere.
A serious contest was taking place, with both sides pouring in all their energy. However, this contest gradually began to lose its sporting character and shift into a different pattern. Before kickoff, the referee had issued some cautions to the contestants, explaining the importance of the match and urging them to play a clean game. Despite this, the harshness persisted. The referee felt compelled to frequently award fouls and free kicks, and even cautioned some players. Seventy-five percent of the penalties and warnings were given to Demirspor players. Fears of a tragic incident arose at every stage of the match. However, the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
The second half began with a harsher and more tense tone than the first.
Kicking and tripping had become permissible. The referee was issuing so many warnings and fouls that it was impossible to watch even five minutes of play without interruption. Finally, a blatant error in front of the Demirspor goal resulted in a penalty being awarded to Galatasaray. The Galatasaray players squandered the opportunity by kicking the ball out. A minute later, Demirspor scored a goal.
Demirspor's 1-0 victory was an invaluable advantage for the Ankaraspor team, and they could have easily finished the game in that position. Despite this, the Demirspor players intensified their fierce play; Necdet, the team's captain and goalkeeper, went above and beyond, not hesitating to kick or trip any player who approached the goal.
In the 33rd minute of the second half, during a Galatasaray attack, Necdet knocked Galatasaray's Cemil to the ground. The referee, who had previously subjected Necdet to numerous warnings, felt compelled to send him off and went to inform him of his decision. Just as referee Tarık officially announced his decision, he was struck several times in the eye. Team captain Necdet, in a manner unheard of by any of our players, had attacked the referee and injured his eye.
Surrounding police immediately rushed to the scene. They apprehended Necdet, while referee Tarık was carried off the field, bleeding profusely. He was treated in the locker room. Shortly thereafter, the players left the field, as the referee had called off the match.
This is the story behind the incident. We don't need to find words and adjectives to describe the ugliness of the situation. For a man captaining a distinguished team to attempt to assault a referee is, to put it mildly, primitive and rude. The referee who was subsequently assaulted was a young man with a clean character, honest morals, and a kindness that would be a model for all our athletes. He graduated this year, became a doctor, and has never spoken a single word of abuse to anyone. He has been known for his honesty, kindness, impartiality, and pure morals in every match he officiates. So much so that when the two teams decided to appoint a referee for the match, Demirspor strongly insisted that Tarık officiate.
Sport isn't necessarily about winning a match or prevailing at all costs. Our primary understanding of sport is moral integrity, honesty, and humanity. A person who would so transgress the boundaries of decency, humanity, and morality as to assault a referee has no connection or connection to the concept of sport. In this case, it's inconceivable to even entertain excuses such as an inability to control one's temper or an inability to tolerate injustice. Because if Tarık committed an injustice in this match, it was against Galatasaray, and it could be argued that he has been condoning Demirspor in many situations.
This man, escorted from the field under police escort amidst jeers and insults from the crowd, was immediately arrested and brought before a criminal court. Referee Tarık has also filed a separate lawsuit.
Unfortunately, our elders also witnessed this heinous incident. Minister of Foreign Affairs Şükrü Saracoğlu, former Minister of National Defense General Kâzım Özalp, and several other state officials were present at the stadium. Following this incident, Necdet lost his right to participate in sports in this country for life. The legal punishment he would receive is a lifelong boycott. Furthermore, there is a criminal court decision to be issued for his violation.
Regarding the situation of Demirspor, the team has been disqualified, as previously stated in a circular issued by the headquarters. Galatasaray won yesterday's match legally. Under these circumstances, a second matchup between the two teams in Ankara is unthinkable.
What does the referee say?
We spoke with referee Tarık late last night.
He told us the following:
“I warned Demirspor goalkeeper Necdet several times for his repeated misconduct, but he continued his deliberate actions. Following his latest action against Galatasaray player Cemile, I had to remove him from the game for the sake of the game. I duly informed him of this decision. However, Necdet immediately charged at me and began punching me. My face and eyes were covered in blood, and I left the field under police escort. Because I saw no way to manage the match in this situation, I was forced to abandon the game. I have applied to the courts and municipal police to prosecute him under criminal law.”
Statement of the Head of the Federations Department
Following the tragic incident, B. Ziya Ateş, the head of the Federations Department, whom we met with, stated the following:
“Following the incident, which began with Necdet physically assaulting referee Tarık in the 33rd minute of the match, Tarık and Necdet left the field and were escorted to the locker room by police. The match monitoring committee, inquiring about the final decision regarding the unmanaged play on the field, personally inquired with the referee and took the Demirspor captain to the criminal court, forcing the match to be abandoned.”

Galatasaray's National League Championship Confirmed
In the first of the matches between Galatasaray and Demirspor, one in Ankara and the other in Istanbul for the national league championship, the incident occurred, leading to the match being abandoned.
The Football Federation then queried the International Football Federation about this incident, and the expected response came yesterday.
The response stated, "Demirspor, despite leading 0-1, will be deemed to have forfeited the match because it was responsible for the incident." Following this, a meeting was held at the General Directorate with members of the Supreme Referee Committee and the Football Federation, and Galatasaray was awarded a forfeit victory.
In the first of these two-match matches, Demirspor was deemed to have forfeited, and no points were awarded. Therefore, the second match was no longer necessary, and Galatasaray's 938-939 national league championship was confirmed.
The decision will be communicated immediately to the relevant regions and clubs. We congratulate the yellow-reds, whose rightful place has been granted after a long wait, on their championship.

Irony, humor, irreverence, and even anger and fright have long served as disconcerting artistic vehicles, subverving expectation and unsettling the viewer. In the modern period, the Dada movement of the late teens and 1920s set a presedent with an "anti-art" in which nonsense reigned and provocative antics were a response to the imcomprehensibility of war. Outside the art world, the court jester of history and literature has played a comparable role, acting the clown while offering insight and advice. Contemporary popular culture offers another model: the ANTIHERO, whose frailty and outward cynicism are wrapped around a core of decency. Today's visual artist also explore these posibilities for contradiction, mining mass culture, adopting the role of performer, acting the brash of "bad boy" and "bad girl," challenging stereotypes and taboos, and overtuning standards of good taste and decorum. Critique or commentary is often the result as art strips away the veneer of artificiality from conventional social practice to reveal hidden truths and glaring imperfections.

I decided on an easier subject today rather than yesterdays attempt at photographing a Hobby at Stodmarsh which was very frustrating and unsuccessful with my SX60. By the time I'd managed to get the camera to focus, the bird was a dark dot 500m away.
This female Linnet did at least have the decency to keep still for a few shots.

Treazon is tuberose at its darkest and most dangerous moment – right after dark.
From than on, the seemingly innocent little white flowers’ aroma is so intoxicating,
that young ladies were prohibited from walking through tuberose fields, from fear that
their decency will be betrayed, and their innocence defeated by lust.
