Dear BSA National Council:
I am renouncing my rank of Eagle Scout and returning the insignia of this rank in protest of the Boy Scouts of America’s continued discrimination against gay scouts and leaders. As an atheist scout, and as someone with the basic human decency to recognize the rights and humanity of people regardless of sexual orientation, I have been struggling with my relationship with the Boy Scouts long before I attained the rank of Eagle Scout. I am proud of the work I did to earn my Eagle, and I do not part with it without much grief. Though I have considered this for several years, I have only now had the courage to renounce my rank due to your recent press release re-affirming your discrimination against gay scouts and leaders.
My experiences in the Boy Scouts made me the man I am today, and I owe many of the fondest memories of my childhood and adolescence to the Boy Scouts. Working on the staff of my council’s summer camp, Horseshoe Scout Reservation, meant working alongside many closeted gay scouts and leaders who did not merely participate, but were often the backbone of their troops, the camp staff, and of the entire camp. These brave men and boys, who worked hard for the camp they loved despite a constant fear of being discovered and castigated, deserve more from the organization they serve.
I want to close by reminding you that, as GLBT rights and even atheism continue to gain acceptance in America, your discriminatory policies will only be as effective as the will of the volunteer scouts and leaders – who make up 99% of the BSA – to execute them. I attained the rank of Eagle Scout despite being an atheist because the volunteer leaders who oversaw my Eagle committee simply did not care for the BSA’s policies in that regard. I know the same has been the case for gay scouts who have attained the rank of Eagle. In the future, as in the present, the parents of Boy Scouts who serve as adult leaders will not tolerate discrimination against their children and others’ children. They know that the advantages the Boy Scouts provide to youth are far too great to deny to a child simply because of their sexuality. They will begin to blatantly disregard your discriminatory policies. Many already are.

Clint, one of the museum's historians explains the significance of these two artifacts from the time of the Holocaust.
Here, the spoon, fashioned out of metal was probably a very risky (life threatening) thing for a concentration camp prisoner to make given that they were all given only soup to eat and no utensils (demeaning). This was hand made from material found likely helped provide the user some form of human dignity (and decency) after it had all been taken away.

Board games for kids got notoriously bad, starting some time in the early 2000s. Forget Monopoly and MouseTrap, at some point the game-makers realized that kids are more interested in scatological humor than learning about the real-estate business or the logistics of a Rube Goldberg-like device. Sure, appealing to the lowest common denominator might sell some games, but at what cost? Common decency, that's what.
And I've never seen any person, real or fictional, so happy to be hit with a face full of toilet water.
Sikhism originated in the 15th century, in the Punjab region by Guru Nanak, who preached ideas that were radical for his age: he denounced Hinduism's oppressive caste system and Islam's gender discrimination, preaching that all people can commune with the divine equally, without the intervention of rituals or priests. The Sikh faith is a monotheistic religion, meaning Sikhs worship one God. The three core pillars of Sikhism are: vaṇḍ chakkō (sharing with others, helping those in need, as well as participating as part of a community), kirat karō (earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud, and speaking the truth at all times) and naam japna (meditating on God’s name to live a life of decency and humility).
The temporary distractions of the material world are seen as an illusion. The qualities of ego, anger, greed, attachment and lust are known as the Five Thieves that rob a person of their ability to realize their oneness with God and creation. Sikhs work to counteract the temptations of these qualities through the values of service, equality, and seeking justice for all. Sikhs also believe that one’s form on Earth is only a temporary vessel for the eternal soul. Thus, the death of the physical body is a natural part of the life cycle, while the soul remains. Death is not an end, but merely the progression of the soul on its journey toward God.
Nine more gurus succeeded Guru Nanak (Angad, Amar Das, Ram Das, Arjan, Har Gobind, Har Rai, Har Krishan, Tegh Bahadur, and Gobind Singh), and continued to spread his teachings across the world.
The last guru, Guru Gobind Singh, named the Sikh sacred text, the Guru Granth Sahib, to be the eternal Guru that would guide the Sikhs going forward. It consists of 1,430 Anks, or pages, and 6,000 Sabads, or line compositions, all are written in poetic verse and are aligning to the rhythmic forms of ancient north Indian classical music. At the core of the Guru Granth Sahib is a yearning for a world governed by divine justice, without oppression of any kind.
The final living guru, Gobind Singh, also established the Khalsa, or order of Sikh soldier-saints. They are recognizable by "The 5 k's," their physical articles of faith: Kesh (unshorn hair and beard), Kirpan (ceremonial sword), Kangha (comb), Kara (steel bracelet) and Kachha (drawers). The Dastar, or turban, is considered a spiritual crown, a token of remembrance of the Sikh principles.

I don't think our French cousins care much for morning tennis. This was the "crowd" on the French equivalent of our Centre Court for the first match on! Check out the lady on the bottom right. Creativity is like a house on fire. The more brightly it burns, the more people get nervous about putting it out. No one wants to see an uncontrolled flame, that's why every home has an extinguisher. As if required by some phantom insurance company, each family appoints a member to make sure that their resident artists never think too highly of themselves. Inspiration is dangerous, it should have a skull and crossbones emblem for emphasis – and, for god's sake, keep it out of the reach of children. Imagine what might happen if it fell into the hands of inexperienced minors.
There is both perceived and real resistance everywhere you turn. If it's not a government fighting your freedom of speech, it's a religious organization questioning your standards of decency. But let's leave those imagined enemies alone for the moment. The truth is that you're facing no greater enemy than yourself. You can burn anywhere, but you're a weather-maker – always dousing out your own fires. You can spark a word or an image in any situation; you can even fall in love with spontaneous combustion. Just be careful about burning too close to the fire department.

Altarpieces and chapels for the saints
In the first project, the altars of the chapels were to be intended for the saints: Peter, Paul, John the Baptist, Benedict, Mary Magdalene, Joseph and Stephen, all of them particular devotions of the founders. For the inauguration in 1718, the altarpieces dedicated to Saint Ignatius, Saint Francis of Borgia, the Holy Christ and Our Lady of Peace, the work of the sculptor Vicente Alonso, were placed. Currently, the side chapels are dedicated to Saint Francis Borgia, the Crucified Christ, Saint Francis Xavier, the Virgin of Fatima, the Immaculate Conception, the Dolorosa, Saint Ignatius and the martyrs of the civil war.
The second chapel in the Epistle nave is dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier, depicted in the centre of the altarpiece, the work of Pedro de Luna, in the throes of death off the coast of China, while the angels descend to collect his soul.
The third chapel houses the crucified Christ carved around 1580 by the Jesuit Domingo Beltrán, with its pathos in colour and its serpentine figure that twists, very much in the mannerist style. There are evidences of the growing devotion of the people of Toledo to it. It was placed here, accompanied by two powerful figures of the Virgin and Saint John, probably the work of the Tomé workshop, the authors of the famous Transparente of the Toledo Cathedral.
On the left side or gospel nave, the third chapel contains an image of Saint Ignatius of Loyola from the 19th century, in a beautiful finely carved and gilded altarpiece, with mirrors in the niche, very reminiscent of the rococo style.
The great altarpieces of the transept
The transept exhibits its magnificent altarpieces from the now disappeared church of San Juan Bautista, which replace the original altarpieces executed by Pedro de Luna. On the right is the former main altarpiece with a canvas of the Baptism of Christ painted in 1702 by the deaf-mute artist from Madrid, Alonso del Arco. On the left, the former altarpiece of the carpenters’ guild, also from the same parish, by the hand of Mateo de Medina, with the magnificent image of Saint Joseph carved by Germán López Mejía.
Germán López Mejía is also the author of the apostolate in the nave and transept, and of the precious image of the Virgen del Socorro in the reliquary chapel, an octagonal space destined for the exaltation and worship of relics.
The apostolate
Throughout the nave, transept and main chapel, there are fourteen figures of the apostles carved by the sculptor Germán López Mejía: Peter, Paul, John, James, Andrew, James the Less, Matthew, Thomas, Philip, Judas Thaddeus, Bartholomew and Simon, to which are added Matthias and Barnabas.
Trompe l´oeil
The main chapel is presided over by an original altarpiece consisting of a fresco painting. It appears framed by columns and a frame painted in perspective, in what has come to be called trompe l’oeil, due to the illusion of fake architecture created by the painting, which, like the architectural shrine of the altar, is the work of the Velázquez brothers, Luis and Alejandro-the latter a professor of perspective at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.
It depicts the most important event in the life of Saint Ildefonsus in the very place where the saint lived: the miracle of the Descent of the Virgin to impose a chasuble on Saint Ildefonsus -which according to tradition took place on the site of the cathedral- as a reward for the defence that the 7th-century bishop of Toledo put up against Jovinian and other heretics in his work De perpetua Virginitate. In the scene depicted, the book is exalted and shown by an angel while others set fire with torches to the writings of the heretics.
The reliquary, sancta sanctorum of the temple
The foundress had already insisted in the deed of foundation on the provision of “a chapel for a sanctuary and the placing of relics with the decency befitting such a place”. The love and worship of relics, against the refusal of the Protestants, was reinforced in the recent Council of Trent and is reflected in these sacred spaces, filled with beautiful reliquaries in delicate carvings of sculpted busts and pieces of gold and silver work. The octagonal shape alludes to the number eight, which epitomises eternity. The red colour of the walls symbolises the blood and love of the martyrs, witnesses and continuers of Christ’s sacrifice. The whole complex is presided over by the spectacular rococo altarpiece by Pedro de Luna- also the author of the reliquary cabinet- with the image of the Virgen del Socorro by Germán López Mejía, in an attitude of defending a soul from the infernal dragon with a dart.
