I didn't complete the project (yet... someday I will... it'll have a shattered glass effect) but I figured I'd share.
A while back, I got extremely angry with someone I loved very very much and wrote the following about him. I was so angry, so that is what inspired this project. The background typography is actually all of the words of the piece I wrote. Warning: it's very angry! ;) I'm not anymore, though :)
What is left but dormant rage?
I feel as though I'm getting a little farther away from anything worthwhile. Every day that I spend in contemplative disinterest, every hour of dispassionate existence, every worthless minute of self-constructed solitude, every endless second of persistent vexation. I cannot forgive, not truly, not yet, because all the things that went wrong are still going wrong, and my life is still in flames, and all I can do is look away, pretend not to give a fuck. But the truth is, I'm angry. There are ups, but they aren't the norm anymore. I'm not happy now, with a bad day once in a while - instead I've become a lethargic disinterested wretch who forces herself to recognize once in a while that there are still things that are beautiful, worth living for, worth pursuing. But my heart isn't in it now, and my pursuits are nil. It's been so long since I've achieved. Not only that, but it's been long since I've even attempted. No investment of self, no sacrifice, no courage, no hope. And every day, I look at myself and see everything that I lack, and not only can I not figure out how to change it, how to grow, but for the first time in my life, I don't really even care. It's become tremendously difficult for me to care about anything enough to do anything about it. Only enough for me to remember why I'm in the state I'm in, the one I try to suppress and escape from, and think of my sorry scapegoat, and all of the reasons for me to hate him. Then the hate goes nowhere, and does nothing. It simply takes the reels of tape from my most repulsive memories and plays them back in perfect clarity, so that I can be reminded further of my weaknesses. I can't help but hate him for everything. It's a near perpetual loathing that I try to deny for the sake of goodness and decency and forgiveness, but every day that spend distracting myself from my self-orchestrated symphony of perfectly harmonic worthlessness, I return to the fateful question, why? And the answer is always that some people are no damn good, that I got played, lied to, used, manipulated, pressured, run down, attacked, and abandoned. Misfortune, that I ever met him. And the only thing I don't regret about the whole damn thing is telling him that I sincerely wish we'd never met, that my knowing him has been the undisputedly most wretched experience of my entire life. And I can't fucking help but be angry. Every day I waste clenching my fists reminds me, and my life continues to be absolutely empty.
Next job was to look at the 'decency' screen(?) by the door as the bottom section showed major signs of rot. It was rubbed down and the rotten bits cut out.
Here's a drawing a created for our up-coming-semi-annually-Lockwasher-poker-extravagance. I get some of the good ol' boys together for an evening is filled with BS & debauchery. Rules of decency are loosely enforced, if at all. Let the poker chip fly!

more from Wikipedia:
In the years following the San Francisco earthquake, Unitarian minister Rev. Leavitt worked with the city's mayor and civil service on relief work. But, ironically, Leavitt later turned against the Mayor and his lieutenants after his discovery of corruption at the highest levels of San Francisco's City Hall, which Leavitt later helped expose. The city's mayor was convicted in the investigation that followed, and the entire Board of Supervisors resigned in the wake of the scandal. "We have dreamed we were living under the government of laws," Leavitt wrote following the attempted assassination of Assistant San Francisco District Attorney Heney, who was investigating corruption Leavitt helped uncover, "whereas we were living under the government of newspapers hired by corrupt corporations, and the enemies of civic decency."

Unspoilt, peaceful, Georgian country parish church, mostly dating from 1719-20 but built on the foundation of a much older church. From the outside, it is a handsome church, X-plan, with an additional wing at the west end, topped by a belfry tower, containing the ducal retiring rooms. The interior, renovated 1784-5 and re-arranged circa 1870, has a typical presbyterian layout with central pulpit and three galleries. Many of the box pews have a central communion table. The north aisle of the church is taller and more sophisticated, built for the Duke of Queensberry and remaining from the earlier church. Inside the Queensberry Aisle is the real jewel of the church: the most amazing monument for the Queensberry burial vault, a baroque mural monument and free-standing baldacchino carved in 1695 by John van Nost to the design of James Smith who was also architect of the later church. A riot of swagged fabric, garlands of flowers, urns, barley-sugar columns, cherubs, skulls and pediments, all in gleaming white marble. 'There are few buildings in which baroque magnificence and presbyterian decency are so happily combined.' (George Hay, Architecture of Scottish Post-Reformation Churches). The churchyard contains some fine 17th-19th century stone monuments, many with classical ornament, including the martyr's monument to Daniel MacMichael and the 1685 monument to the children of William Lukup, Master of Works at nearby Drumlanrig.

On a walk around the Addington Cemetery with a wonderful Flickr friend. February 13, 2016 Christchurch New Zealand.
There is so much damaged in the cemetery because of the earthquake we have had. It is such a pity as I don' think it will ever be fully repaired.
The Addington Cemetery was established in 1858 when the Scottish Presbyterians of St Andrew’s Church purchased land for a cemetery in Selwyn Street. Although not the first cemetery in Christchurch, Addington was in fact the first “public” cemetery, “being open to all persons of any religious community” and allowing the performance of any religious service “not contrary to public decency”.
The first burial took place on the 10th of November 1858. The cemetery has several persons of note buried within its grounds including activist Kate Sheppard, Christchurch Mayor Tommy Taylor and members of the pioneer family, the Deans.

As you can see there is yet another PHOTO THIEF @ work!
How sad, do people really not know what COPYRIGHT means, in SIMPLE words... IF IT IS NOT YOUR IMAGE, THEN, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO IT!!!
It is an INFRINGEMENT of the LAW!
If you love an image SOOOOO MUCH that you'd like to 'use' it, you have the duty and obligation to ask the creative brain behind the image AND HAVE THE COURTESY and DECENCY then to credit the artist, like you would with a painting or sculpture!
From now on I am going to publicly NAME AND SHAME THEM.

Sikhism originated in the 15th century, in the Punjab region by Guru Nanak, who preached ideas that were radical for his age: he denounced Hinduism's oppressive caste system and Islam's gender discrimination, preaching that all people can commune with the divine equally, without the intervention of rituals or priests. The Sikh faith is a monotheistic religion, meaning Sikhs worship one God. The three core pillars of Sikhism are: vaṇḍ chakkō (sharing with others, helping those in need, as well as participating as part of a community), kirat karō (earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud, and speaking the truth at all times) and naam japna (meditating on God’s name to live a life of decency and humility).
The temporary distractions of the material world are seen as an illusion. The qualities of ego, anger, greed, attachment and lust are known as the Five Thieves that rob a person of their ability to realize their oneness with God and creation. Sikhs work to counteract the temptations of these qualities through the values of service, equality, and seeking justice for all. Sikhs also believe that one’s form on Earth is only a temporary vessel for the eternal soul. Thus, the death of the physical body is a natural part of the life cycle, while the soul remains. Death is not an end, but merely the progression of the soul on its journey toward God.
Nine more gurus succeeded Guru Nanak (Angad, Amar Das, Ram Das, Arjan, Har Gobind, Har Rai, Har Krishan, Tegh Bahadur, and Gobind Singh), and continued to spread his teachings across the world.
The last guru, Guru Gobind Singh, named the Sikh sacred text, the Guru Granth Sahib, to be the eternal Guru that would guide the Sikhs going forward. It consists of 1,430 Anks, or pages, and 6,000 Sabads, or line compositions, all are written in poetic verse and are aligning to the rhythmic forms of ancient north Indian classical music. At the core of the Guru Granth Sahib is a yearning for a world governed by divine justice, without oppression of any kind.
The final living guru, Gobind Singh, also established the Khalsa, or order of Sikh soldier-saints. They are recognizable by "The 5 k's," their physical articles of faith: Kesh (unshorn hair and beard), Kirpan (ceremonial sword), Kangha (comb), Kara (steel bracelet) and Kachha (drawers). The Dastar, or turban, is considered a spiritual crown, a token of remembrance of the Sikh principles.

This package of Sunflower seeds was given to me at the LGBT Pride festival last year by the mother of Sean Kennedy. He was murdered in a hate crime against him because his sexual orientation. I spoke at length with this courageous woman, Elke Kennedy who spends most of her time now spreading her sons tragic story and educating people about hate crimes. She gives out the sunflower seed packets as a tangible symbol of hope for a future free of hate. It is my wish that she doesnt have to crusade for what I would consider "common decency" anymore.
This year's show brought students from both Lloydminster & Vermilion campuses together to show off their style, budgeting and presentation skills. Students had a $33.33 budget each to go out into the community and purchase an outfit and appropriate accessories for a Business Awards Banquet.
They were expected to practice their budgeting skills as they shopped for their outfits. Contestants had to show a good taste in fashion and decency. Finally, contestants were tested on their presentation and interpersonal skills as they walked up and down the runway and answered questions from our ‘celebrity’ judges.
The main idea here is to challenge the notion that students have to spend a lot of money to look good for work. Most students struggle with money and this show is a fun way of capturing budgeting, fashion and presentation skills.
“[1667, September] 29.—lords day. I went to John Robinson’s and was all night for they lent me a horse to Chester faire... I gat to Chester..., and I went to the castle to see a man condemned [to death;] a pretie young man he was and very sorie I was I gave a man 2d in ale to let me admittance into castle yard and he tooke me up and downe. The souldiers was most of them all drunke and glad I was when I was gotton out of the gates from amongst them.”
[From “Diary of Roger Lowe of Ashton-in-Makerfield”, Wigan Archives ref. D/DZ A58]
A very wide range of offences, from shop-lifting to murder, were at this time punishable by hanging. Until 1868, when public execution was abolished, the notion that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done was given a very literal application. As V A C Gatrell explains, “executions were mounted FOR the people, and the crowd's function was to bear witness to the might of the law and the wickedness of crime and to internalize those things”. In practice, however, the crowd “wore many faces”, appearing “festive, reverential, defensive, defiant, or cowed by turns”.* Lowe's sentiments on witnessing the hanging of the “pretie young man” at Chester strangely echo those of London diarist Samuel Pepys who, on 21 January 1664, was present at the hanging of “Colonel” James Turner for kidnap and burglary:
“I got for a shilling to stand upon the wheel of a cart... A comely-looked man he was, and kept his countenance to the end – I was sorry to see him”.
Roger Lowe additionally records the hanging at Chester of Hamblett Ashton on 7 September 1663. Although his crime – the murder of a tapster (barman)- was committed at Nantwich, he was evidently a local man as Lowe includes his funeral in the list of those to which he was “providentialle” called during his apprenticeship. To this account the diarist adds: “The lord preserve us from such practices and such end. Amen.”
*“The Hanging Tree: Execution and the English People, 1770-1868” (Oxford UP, 1994). See, also, Sarah N Redmond's “Staging Executions: The Theater of Punishment in Early Modern England” (2007 Ph D thesis at diginole.lib.fsu.edu/islandora/object/fsu%3A176386). A graphic description of the scene surrounding an early 18th century hanging at Tyburn, London, is given by Bernard Mandeville MD in “An Enquiry Into The Causes of the Frequent Executions at Tyburn” (London/F Roberts, 1725)-
“When the Day of Execution is come, among extraordinary Sinners, and Persons condemned for their Crimes, who have but that Morning to live, one would expect a deep Sense of Sorrow, with all the Signs of a thorough Contrition, and the utmost Concern; that either Silence, or a sober Sadness, should prevail; and that all, who had any Business there, should be grave and serious, and behave themselves, at least, with common Decency, and a Deportment suitable to the Occasion. But the very Reverse is true. The horrid Aspects of Turnkeys and Gaolers, in Discontent and Hurry...; the Variety of strong Voices that are heard, of howling in one Place, scolding and quarrelling in another, and loud Laughter in a third; the substantial Breakfasts that are made in the midst of all this; the Seas of Beer that are swill'd...; the Impudence, and unseasonable Jests of those, who administer them; their black Hands, and Nastiness all over - all these, joined together, are astonishing and terrible...
At last, out they set; and with that a Torrent of Mob bursts through the Gate.... 'Prentices and Journeymen are the most honourable Part of these floating Multitudes. All the rest are worse. The Days being known before-hand, they are a Summons to all Thieves and Pickpockets, of both Sexes, to meet … Here the most abandon'd Rakehells may light on Women as shameless: Here Trollops, all in Rags, may pick up Sweethearts of the same Politeness: And there are none so lewd, so vile, or so indigent, of either Sex, but at the Time and Place aforesaid they may find a Paramour.... Where the Crowd is the least, which, among the Itinerants, is no where very thin, the Mob is the rudest; and here jostling one another and kicking Dirt about are the most innocent Pastimes. Now you see a Man, without Provocation, push his Companion in the Kennel; and two Minutes after, the Sufferer trip up the other's Heels, and the first Aggressor lies rolling in the more solid Mire: And he is the prettiest Fellow among them who is the least shock'd at Nastiness and the most boisterous in his Sports. No modern Rabble can long subsist without their darling Cordial, [and] the Traders who vent it among the Mob on these Occasions are commonly the worst of both Sexes but most of them weather-beaten Fellows that have mis-spent their Youth. Here stands an old Sloven, in a Wig actually putrify'd, squeez'd up in a Corner, and recommends a Dram of it to the Goers-by: There another in Rags, with several Bottles in a Basket stirs about with it where the Throng is the thinnest, and tears his Throat with crying his Commodity...
It is incredible what a Scene of Confusion all this often makes, which yet grows worse near the Gallows; and the violent Efforts of the most sturdy and resolute of the Mob on one Side, and the potent Endeavours of rugged Goalers and others to beat them off on the other; the terrible Blows that are struck, the Heads that are broke, the Pieces of swingeing Sticks and Blood that fly about, the Men that are knock'd down and trampled upon, are beyond Imagination, whilst the Dissonance of Voices, and the Variety of Outcries, for different Reasons, that are heard there, together with the Sound of more distant Noises, make such a Discord not to be parallel'd....”.

ok, now maybe this is my relatively pointless architecture blog, #5?
oh, to clarify: i’m not saying the architecture is relatively pointless, i’m merely suggesting that my blog is relatively pointless. the architecture is anything but pointless, it’s great, even when it’s banal and mundane. it’s my blogging that is relatively pointless. or so i believe. i guess i should work on my syntax.
today i’ve decided to go for something a bit more (read: very) obvious. the esteemed and storied (in both senses of the word) castillo del lago.
or, as it’s still referred to, even though she moved out a while ago,: ‘madonna’s house’.
or, by the old timers: ‘bugsy siegel’s house’.
i have no idea who lives there now, but they did have the decency to paint over madonna’s pink stripes and return the structures to what they were like in the early 20th century (or so i’m assuming).
so, here are some pictures i took yesterday afternoon of castillo del lago, which is arguably one of the coolest and grandest houses in l.a. i’m sure it’s modeled after some remarkable european castle, but in my ignorance i have no idea which one. it’s very big and beautiful and it will probably be called ‘madonna’s house’ for the next 50 years or so.

School of Champions is a missionary program to educate children from families whom live and work at the garbage dumps in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, sorting recyclables. The children start working at the dumps at a very young age in order to help support the family and often grow up without an education. School of Champions have put progams in place to help these kids get educated and realize their potential.
“I am aware that invoking personal decency, personal humility, as the solution to a vast risk taken on our half by corporate industrialism is not going to suit everybody. Some will find it an insult to their sense of proportion, others to their sense of drama. I am offended by it myself, and I wish I could do better. But having looked about, I have been unable to convince myself that there is a better solution or one that has a better chance of working.”

I wonder why this man was alowed to join the Dutch police. Must be tactics... when waving his ticketbook at ya and flashing that smile ... why would you object? Exactly.
So, I said, why not 'pull a Paris Hilton' and he knew exactly what I wanted :) Great.
But this also calls for a song, because it's that time of the week :)
Do I have to put the law on you baby
For all the wicked things you do
Am I gonna have to put the law on you baby
That was not what I wanted to do
Do I have to put the law on you baby
To try and make you come out clean
for every evil deed
You're just about the lowest and the dirtiest thing
I've ever seen
Did you really think you could pull it off
The perfect crime,
crime of the heart
Do you really think that you'll get away
Do the crime and never ever pay
Do I have to put the law on you baby
Lock you up and throw away the key
For the countless counts of low down double-cross you've been about
Have you no decency
Did you really think that you could pull it off
The perfect crime, crime of the heart
Did you really think that you'll get away
Escape my justice until you're dying day
Though you made it clear from the very start
There was no trusting you with my foolish heart
Though you maybe made it clear that didn't make it right
Do you really think you'll get away
You can't escape my justice 'til my dying day

And when do you turn, that 70 milestone? I am not that far behind you and somewhat wizened with this disease and the remedy for the same. But this is not a complaint, I might be described as deliriously happy to be at this end of the whole shebang, rather than at that hormone-driven intermediate stage between abused childhood and the ‘dealing with it’ years, that 60-year interregnum.
There’s a bit more clarity now, enough to let me even love ‘him indoors’, as I like to call him. I certainly made a bit of a feast of it all, filling galleries, and the occasional museum, with that ‘struggle’, even causing the Catholic League of Decency’s attempt to try to close down the Mc Mullan Museum in Boston, all because of my penchant to get me mickey out, and to wave it about in indignation and distress. I have described that moment when my mother made me an exhibitionist, and if you give her the wool, she will make you one too. The old jokes are indeed the worst, as poor old Whoppie is discovering to her undoing. The mammy is, of course, beastly dead, and won’t be making you no knitted exhibitionist, but I can supply the pattern, if you ever feel the leaning.

Not sure about that definition of nudity. "a person is nude who is so clad"...?
His odor was unsettling. Thought was impossible when inundated with the disgusting aroma of tangy body odor, sweaty clothes drenched with feces and the stench acquired from a less than sedentary lifestyle comprised of wallowing in the summer heat without concern for hygeine or even a sense of decency.
I almost gagged when this slovenly terror awoke and moved, unleashing hidden stenches that effusively coalesced from nostril to nostril of each victim in the coach.
I dabbed old spice on my upper lip, a move that granted less than a minute's respite from the rancid effervescence of my apathetic assailant.
I am in no way exaggerating what ranks in the top 10 worst hours of my life. If I encounter this beast again I shall debark the bus promptly and suffer an hour wherever I end up.

“But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you.” (Psalm10:14)
Islamic terror groups have had a favorite taunt for several decades which says, “first the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.” This means of course, first the Jews then the Christians will be targets for terrorist persecution, subjection, and elimination.
Saturday People, Sunday People tells the story of the real Israel and of real Israelis—ordinary and extraordinary—and the energetic rhythm of their lives, even during times of tragedy and terror. The book interweaves a memoir of Lela Gilbert’s experiences with Israel’s people and places, alongside a rich account of past and present events that continue to shape the lives of Israelis and the world beyond their borders.
Lela Gilbert arrived in Israel on a personal pilgrimage in August 2006 — in the midst of a raging war. What she found was a vibrant country, enlivened by warm-hearted, lively people of great intelligence and decency. She had long been fascinated by a land that has become an abstraction centering on international conflicts of epic proportions.
“Despite the constant threats it receives, Israel is one of the liveliest places in the world. Israelis cherish life dynamically and celebrate it with zest at every opportunity. I’ve often wondered if this is because they have experienced so much more than their fair share of death.” Even a memorial service for Yoni Netanyahu, the Entebbe Raid war hero and brother of the current prime minister, Gilbert explains, is a “celebration of his life and not a glorification of his death.” Military heroes like Yoni remind us that freedom is not free and that to love life means, paradoxically, to be willing to die for what we love the most — our loved ones, our faith, our nation and our liberty.
Jews and Christian share a common tradition and faith, founded on” biblical principles, founded on the sanctity of life, affirming that humans are made in the image of God . . . Our roots are firmly planted in common ground. … We have chosen life and we deplore the Islamist culture of death. We needn’t fight our battles alone.” It is a timely reminder of the nature of our shared enemy and the obligation for shared defense in the cultural, ideological and military war against the jihadist culture of death.
As the enemies of the Jews are determined to annihilate God’s people so we need to be even more committed to pray for the peace and protection of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). Jews and Christians alike are under attack from the evil that men do. However, our help comes from the Lord who made Heaven and earth. Let us look unto the hills from whence cometh our help. He tells us to call upon Him.

While I was waiting to meet my dad in a parking lot to switch over my gear and drive to the fishing camp in March, I spotted this ancient beast, and decided that I had to take a picture of it. I don't see too many of these old 8th-generation F-series trucks anymore...they were built between 1987 and 1991. I've never driven one, but I did drive two F-350s regularly at work that were from the following generation...still boxy-looking, before they moved to the rounded look.
Anyway, it seems like the money gods are out to get me. I can't get a break. Today I got a parking ticket...probably my fourth. As a man who was born and raised in the subdivisions (I hesitate to say "suburbs" because I think that actually means something kind of different), I am, and have always been, offended by the notion that I don't have a right to park for free in the older areas of whatever city I'm in. I would really like to have been in the room with first person piece of shit who decided "Hey! Why don't we charge people to park their cars in the spots where they most need to park?"
At least the City of Toronto (in this case) could have the decency of telling us where this money collected from tickets goes. Like if they were to say "This pothole was repaired with the money from 15 parking tickets" or something else that would indicate that my money is actually going to fund some city service that I personally will use.
In fact, I think we should have a right to determine which city department gets the money from our tickets.

Elegant railway station in North Bridge Street, Monkwearmouth designed by Thomas Moore, It was opened on 19th June 1848 as the new Sunderland terminus for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway's Brandling Junction Railway, which originally opened in 1839, linking Wearside with South Shields and Gateshead. It was closed to passengers in 1967 and saved from dereliction by Sunderland Corporation and it was reopened as a Railway Museum by H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh in 1973. The building is listed Grade II*. Desrcibed by Nikolas Pevser "If one does not mind a railway station looking like a Literary and Scientific Institution or provincial Athenaeum, then Monkwearmouth is one of the most handsome stations in existence.”
The new railway station in North Bridge Street,
Monkwearmouth was opened on 19 June 1848. It
was the new Sunderland terminus for the Brandling
Junction Railway, opened in 1839, that linked
Wearside with South Shields and Gateshead. It
replaced a basic wooden station in Roker Avenue of
which it was said: “the usual accommodation
provided for civilised people was wanting at this, as at
almost every other Brandling Junction station.” It was
also said that people at the station were subject to:
“frequent breaches of public decency.”
George Hudson, then chairman of the Midland
Railway company and known as “The Railway King”,
wanted to mark his successful election as MP for
Sunderland and commissioned Thomas Moore
(1796 - 1869), the leading architect in Victorian
Sunderland, to design the station.
Monkwearmouth proved to be a busy station
between 1848 and 1879, catering for a wide range of
passengers, as well as handling shipments of cows
and sheep. In 1879, when the North Eastern Railway
Company extended the line across the river for the
first time, Monkwearmouth lost much of its
importance as a major station. By the 1950s parts of
the station had become derelict and passenger
numbers were dwindling. In 1967 it was closed to
travellers and in 1970 all railway use ended, however
to this day, trains still pass through the station from
Sunderland to Newcastle.
The building was saved from dereliction by
Sunderland Corporation and was reopened as a
Museum by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in 1973.

This furry little ball of energy is a pika. This hyper little guy would scurry about the rocky talus gathering grasses to bring back to its den. After watching for a little while I noticed that it kept stopping at one location, look around, then dart off again. These images were taken a few minutes apart, and if you ever saw a pika you would know it never stays still for more than a few seconds. But it did have the decency to pause in a nice beam of light.
