Decades worn stairs, decaying walls and peeling paint. A not for the public stairway in the Hoboken Terminal. This is a 3 exposure HDR photo.

Frankfort, Alabama

Frankfort is about 10 miles north of Belgreen. In the 1840's, it was the county seat of Franklin County but now is a very rural community.

The mould and decay is quite evident in some of the corridors now of the abandoned asylum buildings. Since the removal of the welsh slates from the roof the rain has poured into the buildings causing substanial damage to ceilings etc. The wooden floors are begining to buckle and warp as a result of water and much of the wall paper etc has now gained a healthy growth of mould etc.

We were making our way across the island to one of the beautiful beaches that Curacao has to offer when I saw this wall along the deserted street, we stopped the car to take a closer look. Each section of the wall contained a mural - different portraits framed in a circle. It's not the decrepit walls that symbolized the decay to me, but the manner with which each face was crossed off. Made me wonder about the nature of the conflict that took place and the story of people behind it.

It's hard for the mind to comprehend the enormous span of time from the moment a tree first sprouts from the ground, grows to it's full potential, becoming part of the local landscape...and then ever so slowly loses it's vitality and starts to decay...when Arbor Day is celebrated in your area, consider giving a gift to future generations by planting a seedling!

Old buildings are giving way to new ones

Went with the Hong Kong Photography club to Ma wan, which is a 25 min ferry ride from Central in HK to the north west, towards the airport. Park Island sits underneath the big huge bridge that connects Kowloon with Lantau Island and serves as the major access to the airport. On top of that the high speed ferries that serve mainland China pass by - and the planes ply over the island. So it is quite a busy place.

There is a big residential high rise area right next to the new ferry pier on Park Island. On some of my pictures you can see the highrise buildings sticking out behind the green. But the real magic is revealed when you take a 15 min walk towards the west: You'll get to an old fishing village nestled in between all the major traffic routes, but with a beauty on its own. Bad news: They will tear the whole village down to build a new hotel.

Check out HK Photograph Club's group here on flickr and the maps. I uploaded.

Here is the rest of my Ma Wan pictures. Oh in case you didn't realize: They are all HDR pictures.

Liam, Thanks for organizing!

I seen photos of this place on flickr so had to go check it out for myself. Was cool , in the middle of the bush ( 4wd needed ) and a bit of a bush walk . I did the walk by myself as someone was willing to walk that far lol took me 20 mins return trip and thats a few snaps of the old building . Would of liked to spend longer there but with thongs and long grass and being alone didnt think it was a good idea.

Be cool place for a portrait shoot with zombies or vampires lol .
