Fort Montgomery in northernmost Lake Champlain, a few hundred feet from the Canadian border. In time of war, this magnificent fortress would have held back an invading force bent on sacking our beloved Plattsburgh. The possibility of such an attack was far-fetched by the time Fort Montgomery was completed in 1871 and absurd by the time it was abandoned in 1926.

View large, it looks much better with the black background.

There is something about this decaying old shed in our woods that really gets to me. I think it is because it is just SO beautiful - the colours, the textures and the light. It's like Autumn - things are dying, but they do so in a spectacular way, with such beauty and such wonderful colours.

A Zichy-család első szentmihályi kúriája a XVIII. században épült. Ezt Zichy Ferenc királyi főpohárnokmester 1810 körül kibővíttette, és kápolnát emeltetett mellé. Fia, Ödön, a szentmihályi ág alapítója 1865-ben ismét átépíttette a kastélyt. Összekötötték a kápolnával, melyre emeletet építettek. Ekkor kapta mai formáját: hosszan elnyúló, téglalap alakú épület, főhomlokzata előtt lombfűrészes fatornác fut végig.

Lots of fungi out at the moment, this is as far as I can tell Velvet Shield - Pluteus umbrosus, but far from 100% on that...!

This bindweed flower is lovely and delicate amongst the decay and age of the leaves that surround it. A weed is still a weed, though!

Decaying concrete can be quite photogenic. Depends on how you see it, of course.......beauty being in the eye of the beholder!

At the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg. Old rolling stock sitting in the elements soon (a few decades) develops a new personality. In this image, the distance from one side to the other is a few inches. Post processed in LR.
