Some years ago, the ring road around Stockholm was extended towards the east. This area with offices and warehouses is now disused since it is to close to the new motorway. I go there once in a while to document the decay.

Here sits a decaying mule barn in the coal mine. Mules were kept in the room of the mine; they often lived their entire lives underground pulling coal cars from the deep parts of the mine.

This is also a first time post of this house right here in our county. Cartnal's owned it in 1878 and 1915. One of the last cemetries that I found in Clark County out of 138, was hidden here at the edge of the woods. It was a single stone leaning agianst a tree. Sarah Mc Artor died at 29 years old in 1866. The stone also tells, "Also 3 infant children." You can only imagine the grief that these old houses have witnessed.

I just realised that this is my 700th post.

....It was an overcast Christmas day where I'm at; but I wanted to get familiar with my new tri-pod, that I received from my daughter for my birthday.

copper mine 新北市瑞芳區十三層選礦廠 ruifang district, new taipei city

note: i saw this sight last year when i was riding my motorcycle but never stopped to take a closer look. well, today, i drove there and actually walked on the tube/pipes and examined them up close....in severe decay but interesting.

what little i know is that it was a copper mine and the pipes vented smoke/fumes over the top of the mountains.....correct me if i'm wrong.

Here we have (yet again), White's Factory (1831) in Acushnet. I love this spot for its close proximity to where I live as well as the textile history.

Some history on White's Factory:

"A mill dam was first built on this site in 1746. About 1799, William White, Sr. built a stone water-powered cotton mill for himself and three of his sons, Phineas, William and Benjamin. That mill, one of the earliest in the country, burned down around 1830. It was rebuilt in 1831, burned again around 1854, and finally converted to a sawmill whose last operator was James B. Hamlin. The White family still owns the property."

A Zichy-család első szentmihályi kúriája a XVIII. században épült. Ezt Zichy Ferenc királyi főpohárnokmester 1810 körül kibővíttette, és kápolnát emeltetett mellé. Fia, Ödön, a szentmihályi ág alapítója 1865-ben ismét átépíttette a kastélyt. Összekötötték a kápolnával, melyre emeletet építettek. Ekkor kapta mai formáját: hosszan elnyúló, téglalap alakú épület, főhomlokzata előtt lombfűrészes fatornác fut végig.

Old building decaying with time.

One of many crumbling Rodney (Mississippi) homes--this one covered in flowers. Anyone know what kind of flowers these are? I see them down south very frequently--sometimes growing as a vine, as here, sometimes as a tree.

ODC Emotional Resonance

There is something about this decaying old shed in our woods that really gets to me. I think it is because it is just SO beautiful - the colours, the textures and the light. It's like Autumn - things are dying, but they do so in a spectacular way, with such beauty and such wonderful colours.

This make-shift tow truck was abandoned near Elsie,Or. ....It looks like a backyard mechanic extended the frontend for another motor. ..This was probably done for for balance, in order to keep it from tipping when towing. ..Check it out large size!

I mentioned previously that the caravan site we visited as kids was in a poor state when I returned back in August.

When Granddad sold up, there was a concerted effort by the then owners to do away with the small touring caravans that were parked permanently, such as Granddads, in favour of these larger ones. Presumably they could charge more, or there was some similar motivation.

I had mixed feelings seeing these two caravans, among many, in such a state of decay. On the one hand it is sad to see something supposed to be pleasurable in such a state. On the other hand, there was a childish sense of "haha, that didn't work, did it?" about the way they have been left to rot.
