This afternoon as the light dappled across the back laneways and children played with bikes and balls I looked beneath my feet and picked up leaves and tendrils of gum fibres and dried decaying flower petals.
If human disappeared, in a few hundred years you would never knew we were here if looking at any landscape. In a few thousand years you would not find much even exploring and digging. Everything we make is in a constant process of decay. We just keep fixing stuff so it stays around.
This building is in Snohomish, WA.
It is in the middle of town and it houses a restaurant/bar. A non-trivial amount of photoshopping changed the street into gravel, and removed all sorts of distracting stuff such as power lines, gas meters and pipes, parked cars, a boring sky, an American flag...

Bathing hall of the abandoned Beelitz Heilstätten Men's Sanitarium, Brandenburg, Germany. The small pool in the middle was the cold water pool. It was surrounded by warm water bathing tubs, which are long gone.

This rotting and gross "Scaly Hedgehog Mushroom" looked like the perfect specimen for Macro Mondays theme; "Decay". The stem on the underside was covered in tiny microscopic bugs and one fat maggot. I think I went above and beyond this week, just to participate - it was soooo yukky.
HMM everybody - I hope you weren't eating when you looked at this image.

This old leaf was mostly in a shadow while the dense forest behind was bathed in noon sunlight. The contrast between the verdant and the decaying didn't take away from the beauty of either one, and in fact they seemed to kind of need each other to show off their best features. I was over-thinking things as usual, but the scene charmed me nonetheless.
Going for a slightly more abstract macro, of a lily leaf, with a (sort of) natural sine curve in the backgound. Taken with a F100mm Macro.
