3 vultures hanging out by the barn.

This is a photo of the tree with it's stump in our backyard.

This teeny tiny pinecone on a dead tree stood out from the red of the needles. I focused on it to create depth of field.

September 2, 2019 - The next to last stop on our Ketchikan Photo Safari with Mike Cooke was along Sunset Drive adjacent to Ketchikan Gateway where we focused our cameras on nature.

Location: Yellowstone National Park, Mammoth Hot Springs area

 

While making our way towards Canary Springs, I stopped to take a picture of a certain area that had dead trees frozen in place as the area filled with smoke and bacterial mats. It was quite beautiful and I wish to visit this area again to see how much it has changed.

"I'm not dead yet!"

There were two vultures in this tree, but one flew away before i could take the picture.

This sad old tree has fallen, but rather than crashing to the ground, the top has lodged in another tree nearby. Slowly it is decaying, but the wood plays like a violin when the wind blows, the sounds are very disturbing, a kind of plea to be free from its captivity.

*Might not actually be dead.

A tree burned a few years ago on Mount Palomar

This reminded me of the dead marshes in Lord of the Rings. Creeeeepy.

In Duluth, people are fond of upending driftwood trees, roots upward, on the beach. I think of them as lake totems.
