Happy World Metrological Day!
World Meteorological Day was established in 1951 to commemorate the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization on 23 March 1950. This organization announces a slogan for World Meteorological Day every year, and this day is celebrated in all member countries.
This year's slogan: "Climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our entire civilization. The effects are already visible and will be catastrophic unless we act now. The theme of World Meteorological Day 2024 is therefore “At the Frontline of Climate Action.”

During our wait for Montana Rail Link's Laurel-Bozeman turn at the overlook west of Columbus, it looked really grim with mostly cloudy skies and intermittent thundershowers. A detector east of Columbus announced the Laurel-Bozeman turn with 25 cars headed our way. Somehow, the clouds parted just enough to get a couple sunny shots. One at the overlook as photographed by Moffat Man:

The Mourne Mountains or Mournes (Irish: Beanna Boirche, meaning "Boirche's hills") in the distance. County Down, Northern Ireland.
This photo was taken about a year ago while on a visit to Vernon BC. Vernon is about an hours drive, north of Kelowna. I used the infrared filter from Nik Colour Efex to get this look.
I got up at 5:30 and wandered out to look over the Med and waited for the sun to come up over the Island of Elba.......these were some of the finest moments of my (long) life.
Kind of difficult holidays.
I don't sleep well 3 nights now... Too hot, too humid, no AC, tragic bed in pension house,
My spine hurts, have no reflex, sleepy and exhausted, no luck, trousers torned and stained,
above all that blood vessel in my finger broke itself and bruise showed up,
something wrong is going on with me...
We got pretty lucky to have made it back to our car just before this massive thunderstorm hit. The ominous clouds moving in made for excellent contrast to the white church, so of course I took a photo or two. Shortly after, the heavens opened up and dense curtains of rain exploded into existence. It was a slow drive home and quite the experience!

Another of the dramatic sky scenes along Old Gardiner Road near the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
A serious storm ensued, but we made it off of the trail in time to drive away from the area before the hailstorm started.
Finally early this morning I could see the July full moon more clearly, including with the cloud cover. Both shots were taken within minutes of each over around 4:00 AM and made into a small composite shot.
Weather can change quickly in mountainous areas.
We had planned a longer hike, but when we reached the junction with the longer trail loop, the sky looked ominous. We decided to finish the shorter trail quickly, and found the trail closed near its end! That meant doubling back the way we came, so we had our longer hike after all : )
We drove back, watching a steady, but pleasant light rain. Later, back at the Airbnb house, we heard that in areas all around us, a severe hailstorm occurred, causing a lot of damage, leaving 2-1/2 inches of ice on some roads, and necessitating the use of snow plows. Luckily, we missed the bad weather.

Early August storm cells are usually non severe and with little to no precip. Though the dry air creates some of the best photographic scenarios you could ask for if you love clouds... especially storms in Nebraska.
I had the afternoon off and was ready for that afternoons chase. Camera in hand, and storms moving into northern Buffalo County from the northwest...I was ready to catch some incredible storm captures.
August has always been my month to capture some of my best pics. This set of captures was just the first of many to come!

8th December 2021 :
Racing around again this afternoon, but luckily I got a lift up to where I wanted to go, so only had to walk home afterwards.
Glad I did as I saw this lovely rainbow. I did hope that it would get brighter in colour, but this was about at its best.

The gaze chases the light... where time finds its end, at the threshold of Infinity... looking for Heaven...
Lo sguardo rincorre la luce... là, dove il tempo trova la sua fine, alle soglie dell'Infinito... alla ricerca del Paradiso...
"....beneath a fading sun
walk you way
let the rain wash your pain
and you can
reach
reach for the Heaven
looking for Heaven
Heaven
Heaven in your heart...."
