John Dewey.
John Dewey (October 20, 1859 – June 1, 1952) was an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer whose ideas have been influential in education and social reform. Dewey is one of the primary figures associated with the philosophy of pragmatism and is considered one of the fathers of functional psychology. A Review of General Psychology survey, published in 2002, ranked Dewey as the 93rd most cited psychologist of the 20th century. A well-known public intellectual, he was also a major voice of progressive education and liberalism. Although Dewey is known best for his publications about education, he also wrote about many other topics, including epistemology, metaphysics, aesthetics, art, logic, social theory, and ethics. He was a major educational reformer for the 20th century.
The overriding theme of Dewey's works was his profound belief in democracy, be it in politics, education or communication and journalism. As Dewey himself stated in 1888, while still at the University of Michigan, "Democracy and the one, ultimate, ethical ideal of humanity are to my mind synonymous."
Known for his advocacy of democracy, Dewey considered two fundamental elements—schools and civil society—to be major topics needing attention and reconstruction to encourage experimental intelligence and plurality. Dewey asserted that complete democracy was to be obtained not just by extending voting rights but also by ensuring that there exists a fully formed public opinion, accomplished by communication among citizens, experts, and politicians, with the latter being accountable for the policies they adopt. I have this uncanny knack to get to the right place at the right time when it comes to storms... This one was another spot on encounter. I decided to eyeball this storm and put away the radar and other electronics and just chase use the old way.
It had been a few weeks since any good photographic storms. We had Severe Thunderstorm warnings counties south of Phelps county (Located in South Central Nebraska) that afternoon.
Raced this cell north .... I was now in position to capture this beauty. Just a few miles north of Elm Creek on Hwy 183. This place has the best view over the valley. Worst cell phone reception ever.. even with a 4g booster I couldn't push out a signal.

The day wasn't over. Went home downloaded all the images video & charging all the equipment...
Late evening... about 10:30pm ish I had alerts set up for counties to my north just in case we had storms develop. Oh they did...
Weather Alert alarms were blasting warnings. Grabbed my gear and caught this crystal clear nighttime supercell off to the northeast of Kearney.
All those storms from earlier that afternoon made the sky crystal clear & perfect. Cloud to cloud ⚡ was just popping out of these thunderheads. It was the perfect opportunity to do what I do best!

May 4th, 2012 - Northern Buffalo County Nebraska US
I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...
As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.
Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!
Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

Archive dive continues with this shot in Badlands National Park during our first visit.
We've been fortunate enough to have visited 54 U.S. national parks and 8 Canadian national parks.
Badlands National Parks was one of the last parks we checked off our list, mainly because of its name. It just didn't sound like a desirable place to visit...a foolish assumption.
Since that first visit twelve years ago, I've lost track of how many times we've been back. At least a dozen. Lately, we've been going a couple of times a year to enjoy the spectacular scenery and great wildlife.

Man was i lucky on this shot, i was on my way home and wasnt even going to shoot here, then i noticed the sky and the sun peaking threw in spots shining on the barn, this is the result !

We had a early Moderate Risk just about 100 miles to my south of Kearney Nebraska. Meaning... My back yard. It was the first set of storm cells in South Central Nebraska & North Central Kansas.
Just to the northeast of Beaver City Nebraska I encountered a nice photogenic storm cell that had just went to a severe warned status. I paused a few mins to get my bearings a caught a few snaps!

Solo Chase Day & Close to Home....
Luv it when the chases are in my backyard. Not having to drive 3 states and 1200 miles in 1 day is relief. I know I'm not the only chaser that says that. This was a phenomenal afternoon of severe weather. When I say this... It means that its photogenic & for the most part not effecting the farms, agriculture, livestock & the human element.
Mammatus before the storm, then I decided to bail on this first storm for the next which was to the north about 25 miles. This storm had wicked good rotation under the base. Even though it was high based it was producing some freakin awesome views.
The storm had overtaken my position and I had a 40 min drive to get back in front of this storm. It was on my tail the whole way back to the I-80 corridor. Though a little late I was still able to get back in front of shelf cloud. The teeth on the outflow were almost scraping the ground. It gave the effect of a funnel but it was not. Been doing this to long to make sure I know the difference.
That was a hoot. Though I waited til the last minute. I got swallowed by the core & had to wait it out. Want to see what its like out in the open with no shelter... This I have also done a billion times. 50mph winds rocked my truck! That was fun!
Finally, I blazed it backed to Kearney for this Storms Finale... Beautiful Sunset light illuminates the exiting storm with a Anvil Rain & Mammatus Cluster ... It was truly a Sight to See!!!!

Snaefellsjokull National Park
Snæfellsjökull National Park was established on June 28th, 2001.The Park's purpose is to protect and conserve the area's unique landscape, indigenous plants and animal life as well as the important historical relics. At the same time, the Park is meant to allow visitors easier access as well as an improved opportunities to get to know the area. National parks are amongst Iceland's finest assets and everyone is free to explore them.The Snæfellsjökull glacier lies within the national park, and the park is the only Icelandic national park that stretches to the sea. The geology of Snæfellsnes national park is diverse with formations from almost every era of Iceland’s past. The more prominent formations in and around the National Park mainly date from geologically “modern” times back to the last ice age. The hills to the north of the glacier, around Bárðarkista, are of volcanic palagonite tuff, formed during eruptions under the glacier or below the surface of the sea. Svalþúfa is most likely the eastern section of a crater that erupted under the sea, while Lóndrangar is a volcanic plug.
The dark clouds, rolling over and down the mountains bordering this lake, were the harbinger of heavy rains. Photographed in the province of Phang Nga, Thailand.
The sun was trying hard to shine but the clouds weren't ready to part enough.

It was my last hurrah for 2017.
Hwy 183 Northbound..
It took some time, and I didn't waste any to get back into position.
The winds were ferocious. I couldn't keep a steady shot. I jimmy rigged it and finally got it steady enough in the wind to get these final shots of the year.
It was worth my time and effort this day. Some of my best to end the 2017 Storm Chasing Season.

The last few images I've uploaded have all followed a similar pattern of trying to dodge the seemingly unpredictable sea storms that appeared quite a lot over the 4 days that I was here, this is Anstruther harbour, and the last day of the trip, I had just popped down here to photograph the harbour before heading home, wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary.
Less than ten minutes before this shot the skies were blue with minimal cloud and full sun, this storm came in very fast off the sea and literally for about 1 minute the entire harbour was covered in this amazing contrasting lighting from the sun breaking through the dense black cloud and reflecting on the cottages and the wet beach luckily I was ready for it coming and just by pure chance (and a bit of a sprint) I managed to get in a really decent spot to get a composition and managed to get it directly overhead as seen here. I had to bracket this exposure to get the full range in as the contrast was absolutely crazy with the sun on the white buildings against the black sky.
A few minutes after this the scene was transformed into a very dull lit boring scene as the storm headed out to sea again. For all my complaining about storms on the visit sometimes they are most welcome, oddly enough it never rained rained once while this passed over!
