Beautiful dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), in full bloom, the flower head composed of numerous small florets. This dreaded weed can be so beautiful ... beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.
The name dandelion comes from the French, dents de lion, which means “teeth of the lion,” and refers to the jagged edges on the leaves of the dandelion plant. (Source Naturewatch.ca)

I'm not sure how this Goat's Beard came to be in my garden, maybe dropped by a bird or blown in on the wind but it wasn't until the seed head appeared that I realised how closely related to a dandelion they must be.
I'm not really sure what made me think of doing this. I suppose I have been so struck with the sheer number of dandelion heads on the road side verges and in the fields I pass on my way down country lanes on my way to and from work that they just went into a huge melting pot of other thoughts that are in my head as I drive along on my own.
It was easy to find nice fluffy ones in the earlier part of the week but by yesterday I found many had lost their heads or become more ragged mop tops due to some heavy rain showers in recent days. It was a case of hair today, gone tomorrow. Never mind.
Anyhow, a bit of fun and it's different
Up close and personal with some Dandelion seed heads.
