Dance at the street.

Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

In the story, Sherlock Holmes examines the occurrences of the dancing figures and realizes that it is a substitution cipher. He then cracks the code by frequency analysis.

Not all letters appear in the book. Sherlock Holmes fans have tried to find a pattern for many years. A Danish scholar, Aage Rick Sorensen, found a hidden pattern in the cipher and added the missing letters (and numerals).

Dancing men code is a simple form of monoalphabetic substitution cipher.

Taken at Talacre beach. The wind was howling through and whipping up the sand creating some beautiful patterns. Used a wide aperture to capture this to gain more shutter speed and a sharper foreground

Near Telluride, Colorado

This set of trees is probably the most famous in Colorado. Landscape photographers are attracted to their bent trunks and list this spot as one of the iconic stops while touring this amazing area.

The trees must have been mashed down by a heavy snow when they were young and then grew back up toward the light of the sky creating these unique shapes.

I'm blown away by the conditions that Chris Byrne and I had there. It had snowed there the night before which gave us some unique conditions. With the snow and the beautiful golden aspen leaves, our timing couldn't have been better.

Dancing is emblematic for cranes. They do it year-round, so it's not just a mating display. Sometimes it seems like they just do it for fun. That seemed to be the case here with these Sandhill Cranes.

This trio (their young growing colt is out of the frame watching them) appeared just as we were getting out of the truck, so I did not notice that my exposure compensation was at +3. Luckily things didn't get completely blown out, but I wish I had been more mindful so I could have achieved a lower ISO.

"The Dance"

Last week in Bayfield, Nova Scotia.

The male adders were dancing today at the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey. Spring is definitely in full flow and these bad boys were trying to impress. Sadly they didn't cut the mustard as the female wasn't around! If you are able to visit I think the continuing warm weather will mean there will be many more chances to see this fabulous spectacle!

Dogwood week 49. Portrait Dancing. I knew that I wanted to try rear curtain sync for this one and was lucky enough to visit a friend's studio. Mostly got the timing hopelessly wrong but this was the best. Enjoyed it .

Dance (I) marks a moment in Matisse’s career when he embraced a reductive approach to painting, seeking the expressive potentials of fundamental elements: line, color, and form. This daring approach was influenced by the increasing sophistication of photographic technology. In 1909—the year of this painting—the artist observed, “The painter no longer has to preoccupy himself with details. The photograph is there to render the multitude of details a hundred times better and more quickly. Plastic form will present emotion as directly as possible and by the simplest means.”
