dancing jewel/platycypha caligata
Member of the damselfly family.
We all know that in the animal kingdom males normally exhibit more beauty compared to females. But the dancing jewel you see here is a female and of much greater beauty than the dull pinkish male. So this is a clear indication that these jewels may have evolved from humans.
Correction May 4: I was wrong, this is indeed a male!
These are the walls across from Lake Lenore in Washington State. I have photographed them before, but always had a hard time finding an artistic way of portraying their natural beauty. As I was driving home this morning, I noticed light dancing slowly over the face of the walls and found a place to pull over and take a series of photos. For the first time I feel that I can display this place in a dramatic way I've always felt of them.
I see a spiderweb at the bottom, wings outstretched on either side taking flight, and ivy emerging all across the top.
Frost formation between the panes of my patio door glass, that we only get to see when temperature outdoors dips to -40 or colder.
Last two mornings made it down to -42°F (-41°C).
Shirabyoshi dancers were popular in the late Heian period (794-1185). Anyone who has read the epic Heike Monogatari (Tale of the Heike) may remember that Taira Kiyomori was fond of shirabyoshi dancers. The kind of music that shirabyoshi performed to is called "Imayo", which was accompanied by poetic verses. Imayo was also popular with Kyoto's imperial court.
I took this photo at Yasaka Shrine in Gion, Kyoto earlier this afternoon. It was just my luck that a performance was ongoing when I got there.

Afro-latin hip hop is a fusion/hybrid style with the foundational footwork movement of African tribal dance and the styling of latin hip hop used mostly to dance to a dembow rhythm.
This is a very fast tempo dance partly choreographed and partly freestyled by Jordan Laza.
