Another group of celtic dancers at the Harrisburg Irish Parade held the weekend before St. Patrick's Day. Still limiting myself to only using the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens hense the depth of field.
Annalise had her first dance recital this weekend, and it was an absolute success! She did a fantastic job with her friends, and she had a great time. All of the girls were amazing, and I am so glad that we were able to be a part of it.

Odissi dance originated on the Eastern coasts of Orissa, India from the 2nd century BC onwards. It is traces it's origins to the ancient Odra-Magadhi style of dance mentioned in the Natya Shastra - and has developed and traveled from the tantrum Buddhist monks to shaivite and finally the vaishnav traditions. It finally got totally absorbed into Jagannath cult. Odissi dancing can be traced back to the maharanis (temple dancing girls) in the Jagannath and Konark temples of Orissa from the 11th century. The Gotipuas (boy dancers) carried this tradition forward to present day Odissi. Odissi centers around the centralized stance of chowk - a square, and tribhangi which literally means three bends. The body is angularly bent three places. The movement of the torso along the central axis makes the Odissi style very distinctive from the other Indian classical dance styles. It has two aspects in its repertoire - the nritta - pure dance sequences based on abstract movements and natya - enactments. Borrowing heavily from the Geet Govind - an ancient poetic text dating to the 11th century by Jayadeva.
