Boy, taking these photos REALLY makes me want to work out like every second.
oh, and about the bruises on my back .. haha .. its from cupping .. it is a chinese medicine practice. After the cupping my acupuncturist gave me an awesome massage .. just what I needed. Pammie ain't gettin' no lovin' anymore ..
I am a touchy feely person and the most feely I have gotten in a long time are hugs from family and friends .. I need physical contact sometimes, ya know .. anyway, it was perfect.
We cupped coffees from about 10 of the communities Peace Winds worked with. Despite having similar climates and coffee varieties, I was surprised how different the samples tasted from each other.

Cupping can be described as somewhat like a reverse massage. Instead of pushing the muscles into the body to get them to relax, suction is used to gently pull the muscle tissue upward to help it release. Specially designed cups are used to create suction through the use of heat or a vacuum device. Once the cups are in place the suction draws new blood to the site, increasing circulation to help release tight muscles, reduce inflammation and stimulate healing. During the cupping process painless bruise-like markings know as "sha" often appear on the skin that dissipate in a few days.There are different styles of cupping that are used depending on the situation. Cupping does wonders for a tight IT band. It can help unlock a frozen shoulder and relieve the cough, wheezing and tightness in the chest that is associated with upper respiratory infections and asthma.Cupping for Cellulite available too!

Woke up in Ukiah and rallied together family and friends for their first ever chance at a cupping. On the table, Ecco Yirgacheffe (Organic/FT) , the 2005 Nicaragua La Nueva (COE), Brazilian Pantano Peaberry, 2005 Bolivian Juan de Dios Blanco (COE) and the Ecco Mocha Java.
Cuppers: Mom, Dad, my brother Chris, my friend Keith, myself and my lovely Doobie. We went through the whole process: grinding on a Solis MP two tablespoons of coffee into an 8 oz. glass. We smelled the grounds and talked about our perceptions. Then we added hot water, smelled and compared for three minutes. Then each of us broke a crust and inhaled deeply to catch the brewed aromas. By this time they were all excited. Then we skimmed and started cupping. The Bolivia and the Pantano were the faves while the Nicaragua was ignored despite Doobie's swearing to its magical properties as an espresso. They liked the Yirg as it cooled and the Mocha Java for the body. Everyone seemed to have a real good time, and my mom is excited to try again so that she gets better at it.
I wonder when the last cupping in Ukiah was held?
This elderly man had a little cart with Chinese herbs and various tools for treatments. He was applying cupping to the lady's back, to treat her shoulder pain.
When I was there he also suggested a herbal formula to her - I don't know whether she agreed to take it or not...
I had never seen street-side itinerant Chinese medicine treatment like this!
