I was out all day and had not posted my oxo cubes. Anyway having seen that others had done some good ones, just redone my shot.
The Cube 36 is a three-dimensional puzzle. It consists of a base plus 36 colored towers. The towers come in six different colors and six different heights. The goal is to place all towers onto the base with each of the six colors appearing once in each row and column. All towers should have the same level at the end.
Solution:
if the base had the six different heights of the towers once in each row and column there would be no solution. So the puzzle can only be solved by a trick.
Two towers are different from the others of the same height and will fit on certain parts of the base they normally won't fit on.
This subtle modification leads in fact to 96 solutions.
Never the less, it will drive you crazy to find the start. If you once found it, it's easy.
There was a demo being put on by this company called "Cube Works" at the Distillery District.
They use "Magic Cube" toys to recreate famous works of art. Pretty cool stuff. See their website for more info:

This cube, folded from a single square, is one of Shuzo Fujimoto’s most famous designs. Not only is the model very firm, but the folding sequence is a masterpiece in itself. I knew the model from pictures before, but only after folding it myself did I come to fully appreciate it.
On my second day in Rotterdam I returned to the Cube Houses just in case I spotted some shots I'd missed the day before. This was one of the shots I found which I like quite a bit, not least because despite the iconic architecture I hadn't seen this composition before.

From Wikipedia "Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level, since its main purpose is to optimise the space inside. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest. The central idea of the cube houses around the world is mainly optimizing the space, as a house, to a better distribution of the rooms inside."

I copied others and lay underneath the cube of lights that moved with the retro 80's music. A pretty awe inspiring display of light and vision. At times the cube appeared to breathe.
I couldn't think of any cuboid items locally so decided to construct my own! The shot was taken in RAW and needed some minor adjustments in converting to jpeg. I used a black velvet background and the cube was lit by light from a window on the side.

Crazy Horsehead Man finds himself trapped in a bizarro cube. As he comes to grips with his new reality, questions race through his mind. Which way is out? Which way was in? Does this place have a toilet?

The houses in Rotterdam are located on Overblaak Street, right above the Blaak metro station. The 1977 original plan showed 55 houses, but not all of them were built. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.

These are tiny Swarovski crystal beads (less than 1cm across) Cubes rather than the usual rounds. Each is drilled ready for threading, but I love to keep them as abstract buidling blocks for photographing ;o)

The cubes with values come from a game called script-o-gram created by a company named Jumbo, copyright date 1979 in Amsterdam. The directions on the bottom of the box are in 6 languages, there is an egg timer, but there appear to be missing cards or maybe that space was for the instructions.
Made up of about 100 real sugar cubes, not glued or anything. These sugar cubes are actually called light because they supposed to have 50% less calories. Inside the cube I placed a 5W light bulb. Shot with my new Olympus 12-60mm 1:2.8-4 lens.
Update (11/9/2009) - Included on digital-photography-school.com/great-reader-shots at Number #1. A great place to learn about photography.
