Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level, since its main purpose is to optimise the space inside. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest. The central idea of the cube houses around the world is mainly optimizing the space, as a house, to a better distribution of the rooms inside.

A classical variation on the penultimate-unit cube where each one is closed inside its neighbor. The process is fairly easy until the last cube : I remember a fun struggle with a toothpick and unwilling units !

earth-cubed. If we were to cut a small cube from a landfill dump, what would we find? These earth-cubes are representations of our obsessions with how we humans are burying our waste. Re-cycling re-cycling re-cycling! Is this how we see our earth today? Have we forgotten those innocent times in the '60s, when our vision of our earth was quite different, as the first glimpses of our wonderful "blue" planet were sent back to us from outer space. Can we ever relive those moments of excitement and hope. Can we ever be proud of ourselves as landlords of this mighty round mass we call home. Are we too "green".

They don't know that the Rubik's Cube was invented in the late 1970's by Erno Rubik, a professor from Budapest, Hungary, or that it became a worldwide craze in the 1980's. They just know that it's fun.
These are my Candy Carnival Blythe dolls, Daphne and Waverly. The teeny-tiny Rubik's Cubes, and the girls' outfits, were gifts in the goody bags at BlytheCon Brooklyn in September 2017. My husband came with me to that event, so I got two goody bags! This photo is for the theme "The '80's"

I was reading in Choosing a Map Projection that the distortions in the orthographic projection are not really seen as distortion by the human eye, since they mirror the foreshortening the mind expects in a spherical object. Hence, six views of a globe, as though it were in the center of the cube.
Second aircraft in Cube 21 flight diverting into RAF Lakenheath. A flight of six was returning from Poland to Alaska after a deployment when their tankers failed to launch. The 3rd Wing marked on the tail is the operating unit at Elmendorf AFB.

There is actually a 'show cube' you can visit, for a modest fee...and I did so on my previous visit to the city (in 2002).
