BAS is unusually generous in allowing staff to use an extensive flagged area for unsupervised recreation. Venturing outside the flagline requires a field assistant and linked travel precautions. In this photo, Scott and I using these techniques to link our skidoos together with the Nansen sledge in between.
And when there's no Pig to photograph...Operation "Moonscape 50" returns. The freshly cleared run up to Victoria Bridge shows well here. Ex-GWR small prairie, 4566 drifting to her crossing, shedding steam from the safety valves.

When driving in the highlands in Iceland you have to be ready to cross some rivers. We just had passed this river (Krossá) and waited for the other bus to do the same. Krossá is a powerful river and it riverbed can change quickly. South-Iceland.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad crosses Chippewa Creek just south of the Brecksville station. I walked down to creek level on the north side to get this image.
Where the Columbia Basin is climbing out of the coulee it's concealed from view. Extra lights on the distant signage are deployed. An interesting detail not often seen. Moon Road outside of Connell, WA, September 4, 2023.

Crossing Mnisose (“minne-show-she”) tells the story of one of America's first feminists, Sacajawea, and draws a line from a completely original view of Lewis and Clark to the present day, as descendants of the Dakota and Lakota Nations continue their fight for the Mnisose (or what Europeans named the “Missouri River”) and the lands that contain the burials of their ancestors. From celebrated playwright, activist, and attorney Mary Kathryn Nagle (Cherokee Nation), whose Manahatta captivated audiences at Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

With the 1209 left on the main along Cermak, the CIRY crew head up the Kramer spur, which requires crossing Cermak on a curve with no automated warning devices. One of the CIRY crew (everyone is qualified as an engineer AND conductor) protects the crossing with weather-beaten red flag. As the locomotive passes, he'll hop aboard on the fly and guide the engineer down the infrequently-used spur.
