I always find it poignant passing Redcross Way in Southwark, a quiet back-street running parallel to Borough High Street. On a plot of land surrounded by London Underground hoardings there's a big rusty iron gate adorned with ivy, ribbons, flowers, feathers, jewellery and other totems – and with a bronze plaque bearing the epitaph: 'R.I.P. The Outcast Dead'.

This is Cross Bones, a pauper's burial ground that was used to bury the prostitutes who worked in Southwark’s brothels or 'stews' and who were excluded from Christian burial. The plot of ground is at the point that is furthest away from all of the local parish churches . It is thought that over 14,000 “single women” were buried here in the centuries up to the seventeenth century.

Of those recovered over 60% are thought to be children, many bearing signs of tertiary syphilis.

The the iron gates in Redcross Way have been transformed into a shrine, a living communal art-work. It is a sad and still desolate place despite this. It has been under threat of redevelopment for many years but it looks as though a local community group has succeeded in getting commitment to built a garden of remembrance as part of the overall development

This is the cake for my gorgeous Nephew's 3rd Birthday. He had a pirate themed party, so a pirate cake it had to be! A wavy sea with a sugar "Pirate" no. 3, sugar anchor and pirate map with the skull and crossbones flag blowing in the wind!

I'm not really into the whole skull fad so I was worried I wouldn't be able to pull this project off but I like how it turned out. They showed me what they wanted the skull to look like but other then that I had free reign. The cake flavor is cookies and cream with a buttercream filling. The cupcakes are vanilla with a cookies and cream filling. The decorations are all done in fondant. TFL!

Which version of Crossbones do you like better? Lego version(left) vs. Minifig-Factory version(right).

Sedlec Ossuary, Kostnice Sedlec, or "Bone Church" in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic. The ossuary contains somewhere around 50,000 human skeletons which have been used to decorate the ossuary, in the form of a bone chandelier, bone chalices, and 6 large pyramids of bone. These pyramids were stacked in the ossuary by (according to legend) a half-blind monk around 1511, when a mass grave was unearthed and the bones needed a new home. In 1870, František Rint was emplyed to put the bones in order, and so the ex-woodcarver did; among his works of bone art, he left behind his signature in, of course, bones.

A couple weeks ago, my friend Vanessa posted this shot with her super adorable pink skull mug. I loved it so much, she sent me this awesome present in the mail. How cute she?? And how cute is my little pink skull and crossbones bowl? Best part? She filled it with hershey kisses. This put the hugest grin on my face when I opened it today. Thanks Vanessa! You're the bestest! Hope your back is feeling better and you're enjoying your weekend.

For me, today is all about laundry, stand-up comedy, golf, and wine. I love Saturdays. Also? Only three hundred more days to go! Holler! :)

Two layers of Montana on a 50cm x 60cm x 4cm canvas.

A simple two-layer stencil...can't be that hard can it? Apart from the fact that my arm and back are killing me from cutting the damn thing and the fact that it wouldn't stay in place on the canvas while I tried to spray it (spray adhesive on canvas...anyone else have any bother with it?) it was easy!!! By far the toughest piece I've attempted yet.

MiniMaxxie went to Crossbones Graveyard, a former post-medieval paupers’ burial ground holding the remains of an estimated 15,000 paupers, more than half of them children, who lived, worked and died in what was once an impoverished & notoriously lawless part of London. There is a widely held belief that it was originally unconsecrated ground used for the burial of sex workers. These women were also known locally as “Winchester Geese” because they were licensed by the Bishop of Winchester to work within the Liberty of the Clink, an area outside the jurisdiction of the City of London.

It is now a Remembrance garden, designed to respect the outcast dead who are buried beneath. It provides a sensitive, contemplative environment for all who would spend time here.

This be a pirate cake for Captain Noah who be turning 3. Okay , enough with the pirate talk! But I loved doing this cake - it was so much fun. Hope he and his mateys have a great party! They just gave me a little party cup and gave me free reign. I got a lot of great ideas from a ton of people and then went from there. If this looks like one of your cakes, thank you! (there are too many cakes that inspired me to list them all :)

Glasnevin cemetery is huge by any standards and it is well worth a visit, even if you don’t have a camera. When I visit I try to limit my activities to the older sections. Over the last two years I have noticed that recent graves are now appearing in the older historic areas so I assume that some plots are being recycled. I hop that this trend does not have a negative impact on the historic character of the cemetery.

Some users claim that the Sony SEL 55mm F1.8 FE Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* is, excluding the G Master lenses, the best Sony FE lens. It currently retails at Euro 999.00 [plus a Euro 50 cashback] which is very good considering that the Sony SEL 35mm Distagon T* FE F1.4 ZA [which I used yesterday] retails at Euro 1789.00. The new Sony SEL FE 50mm F1.4 ZA costs Euro 2149.99.

The SEL 55mm is light and compact especially compared to the SEL 35mm and I am beginning to believe that it may the better of the two. My next project is to test the Sony SEL 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS [retails at about Euro 1200.

I made some Legos because I saw Captain America 2 for the 2nd time and well I don't have the right hair for winter soldier and crossbones didn't turn out exactly how I wanted him to but oh well I'll just keep improving them til I get it right
