MiniMaxxie went to Crossbones Graveyard, a former post-medieval paupers’ burial ground holding the remains of an estimated 15,000 paupers, more than half of them children, who lived, worked and died in what was once an impoverished & notoriously lawless part of London. There is a widely held belief that it was originally unconsecrated ground used for the burial of sex workers. These women were also known locally as “Winchester Geese” because they were licensed by the Bishop of Winchester to work within the Liberty of the Clink, an area outside the jurisdiction of the City of London.
It is now a Remembrance garden, designed to respect the outcast dead who are buried beneath. It provides a sensitive, contemplative environment for all who would spend time here.
Memento Mori on a memorial stone on the north wall of St Peter's in Poulshot, towards the east end of the church. Whatever writing may one have been on the stone has long been lost to the north wind.
The best thing I can do for a description of St Peter's in the Wiltshire village of Poulshot, near Devizes, is to copy the text of the Small Pilgrimage Places Network page about the church, which is repoduced with gratitude.
“St Peter’s Church lies in the vale of Seend, to the north of the Salisbury Plain. To truly appreciate the tranquil, peaceful atmosphere present within the St Peter’s, it requires a visit. There is an air of still and calm throughout the church. It is a simple, not large, stone church set apart from the village in the countryside. This makes it a quiet place, being surrounded by fields. Unlike many other historic churches, St Peter’s is a light place, with lots of sunlight, giving it a life giving and open feel. It is a place particularly suited for the Celtic services held there once a month on a Wednesday evening. Its unpretentious nature and peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for quiet contemplation and prayer. Its simplicity makes it a place to concentrate the mind and to centre oneself in the still calm.
“The oldest parts of the church, including the Nave, date to the 13th Century. It underwent considerable alterations in the 15th Century. A fire in the church in 1916 destroyed the main part of the nave roof which was subsequently rebuilt.
The church was built outside of the village and to this day remains set apart from the village. This was thought to be because of Plague fears, which link with the history of St Peter’s through the presence of Plague pits in the churchyard, denoted by the location of skull and crossbones set in the stone on one side of the church. This is a fascinating part of St Peter’s history, giving reason for why the main part of Poulshot is so distant from the church. The history of St Peter’s is also found in the presence of a dole stone in the corner of the churchyard on which alms and dole would have been distributed to those in need in the village.
“The churchyard is a picturesque place, with grassy verges and snowdrops in spring as well as other wildlife throughout the year. Situated where it is, it also has beautiful views of Salisbury plain and the countryside around.”
This uncanny nebula is best suited for Halloween, so it's a bit overdue. If you tilt your head 45 degrees to the left, you should see a super creepy skull! (Hence its nickname, the "Skull and Crossbones Nebula").
Wait a minute before freaking out; it's not like the universe is trying to scare us with a creepy face. We see it because evolution shaped us to be good at face recognition, so we sometimes imagine faces even though there isn't one.
Skulls aside, the nebula is made of star-forming regions where large gas clouds are giving birth to new stars. The skull's left eye is a superluminous star (HD 64455), which looks especially shiny because of the telescope's diffraction spikes. The skull's right eye is a sphere of hydrogen gas energised by a nearby star (Haffner 19). The pink-red glimmer from ionised hydrogen makes it look like the terminator's cyborg eye!
(The original data was acquired from Telescope Live, which I processed using pixinsight and photoshop).
Thought I'd do something different with a hallowe'en theme.
The skull and crossbones are on a plate from the Dollar Store. It is sitting about 10 inches behind where the drop of water will fall. The image behind the drop must be upside down to catch the refraction the right way.
The Speedlite 430 EX ll external flash is directed at the plate and not at the drop.
Just plain water used for this.
Comments & Faves are both appreciated, but please comment when you favourite. Thank you. :)
Brock Rumlow/Crossbones - Pretty happy with this figure, I think he looks really good!
Batroc The Leaper - Alot of people used these combos, not gonna lie, but I've got no idea who started it. :P Anyway, not much to say.
Sam Wilson/ The Falcon - Wasn't too happy with the torso I used before, so when I finally found Bane's (this one) I thought it looked waaaay better! Credit for the Wings design goes to Minifigs4U.

Recently got the Crossbones Hazard Heist set and boy, except for the figures and bike, was it subpar.
However, the lack of leg printing was a bit off putting so I took the liberty of adding some for Crossbones using the CMF Motorcycle Mechanic leg piece. I also gave him a bigger gun. (CMF Paintballer)
The things around him are fruit stands I have had sitting on a shelf for about a year since the Hulkbuster set came out last year. This seemed like the best time to use them.
So, I hope you guys like it. :)
The "Skull & Crossbones" nebula (NGC2467) located in the constellation "Puppis".
This object was imaged in narrowband across multiple nights.
The total integration time was 27 hours and 58 minutes for all three narrowband, Sulfur II, Hydrogen Alpha, Oxygen III filters and Red, Green and Blue wideband filters for the natural colour stars.
Exposed through a C8 SCT at f6.3 with a QHY268M camera cooled to -5°C.
