I always find it poignant passing Redcross Way in Southwark, a quiet back-street running parallel to Borough High Street. On a plot of land surrounded by London Underground hoardings there's a big rusty iron gate adorned with ivy, ribbons, flowers, feathers, jewellery and other totems – and with a bronze plaque bearing the epitaph: 'R.I.P. The Outcast Dead'.
This is Cross Bones, a pauper's burial ground that was used to bury the prostitutes who worked in Southwark’s brothels or 'stews' and who were excluded from Christian burial. The plot of ground is at the point that is furthest away from all of the local parish churches . It is thought that over 14,000 “single women” were buried here in the centuries up to the seventeenth century.
Of those recovered over 60% are thought to be children, many bearing signs of tertiary syphilis.
The the iron gates in Redcross Way have been transformed into a shrine, a living communal art-work. It is a sad and still desolate place despite this. It has been under threat of redevelopment for many years but it looks as though a local community group has succeeded in getting commitment to built a garden of remembrance as part of the overall development
I've posted this before but I want to re-post it as part of a set

In the backstreets of London not far from The Shard , lies an extraordinary burial ground. Once the resting place of 'the Winchester Geese; prostitutes licenced by the Bishop of Winchester to carry out their work on the South Bank. Although it was the Bishop himself that licenced them, the same man denied them a christian burial . Over time, it became the resting place for those who could not , for one reason or another , afford to be buried in the numerous churchyards within London. Instead, the 15k paupers were effectively thrown into what was little more than a pit. Today , the spot is marked by the beginnings of a memorial garden. But it's fate lies in the balance: situated on prime land the lease is only granted on an annual basis. Let us hope that the ultimate irony is not visited on the souls of those who lie there: a development that only the very wealthy can afford.......support the Crossbones- go visit their website and take a look.

As pesticide manufacturers have prodded the EPA to change their wording on various warnings for toxic materials, I suppose we should ignore the "POISON" skull and crossbones shown in their MSDS and "assume" Reward/Diquat is safe for many of the living beings in and around this small pond. I did see a great blue heron yesterday attempt to spear a fish. The blue heron got the fish but dropped it. Looked like a pretty good sized bluegill. There are possums which swim in this pond, also. Cats visit it frequently (there is a feral Manx who stops by in the evenings) Geese no longer show up as of about a week ago however many people have dogs in the area who walk this pond (Diquat may cause kidney problems, retinal detachment and cataracts in dogs and rats). It takes a while to damage their internal organs. There were no waterfowl in the pond this morning although two ducks did just fly in. I wish them all the best in their health and well-being. I hope the pond maintenance crew only added a small amount although the pond is now an opaque blue. Only time will tell how the birds fare as no one else seems to be able to - we euthanize millions of birds every day when they can no longer produce: "Millions of bird deaths as US hit by avian flu outbreak" - www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/09/bird-flu-millions-b...
A rep from Thornton's call center said they do maintain this pond and they will "get in touch" about any concerns with this product. Perhaps they only maintain the water there and not the land surrounding it. I did receive a call back from Cody with Acquatic Control, Inc. and he was confident this product was safe for the habitat as it is approved by the EPA.

Adorned with a 'Skull and Crossbones' nose art and still carrying her Fleet Air Arm's No.899 Squadron markings from when aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle, ex Royal Navy De Havilland (HS)
Sea Vixen FAW.2 XJ580/126E all covered up while stored at Hurn back on the 22nd of March 1984.
FRA Ltd had the contract to convert ex RN Sea Vixens to drones for use with the RAE out of Llanbedr but that contract was scrapped after only a couple of airframes were converted.
XP924 - the only airworthy Sea Vixen currently flying was one of those converted but luckily this one survived too and can now be seen at the Tangmere Aviation Museum in West Sussex.

Scanned Kodak Gold 100 negative
I found this photo in Pennsylvania, and judging by the "AKD" banner, the "State" pillow, and the "S[tate] 1910" pillow, this is probably the same men's social fraternity that William Raimond Baird described in Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities, 7th ed. (New York: College Fraternity Publishing, 1912), p. 572:
"Alpha Kappa Delta--Organized May 4, 1909, at Pennsylvania State College [now Pennsylvania State University]. The membership is about 50. The badge is an oblong shield displaying the letters forming the society's name in the center in vertical order. The colors are orange and blue. It rents a house."
Perhaps that's the house that the fraternity was renting. The AKD banner on the porch, interestingly enough, includes a skull and crossbones in its upper left-hand corner. And who are the young and middle-aged women in the photo? Girlfriends and chaperones? Students and profs?
Today, Alpha Kappa Delta is the name of a sociology honor society founded in 1920. It would be interesting to know, however, what happened to this fraternity in the decade after this photo was taken.

This a pretty poor crossbones minifig i made a while ago.
The helmet is a modified racer helmet with the front filled in to make a full helmet.
The head was a default clone head.
The gauntlets were made with LEGO handcuff pieces cut and glued together to look like the ones in the movie
