I "created" this little sea glass mosaic mirror while on vacation this summer in Marco Island, FL. I recently hung it on my back porch. I kind of liked taking this picture because I didn't have to put on makeup or get dressed for it - ha!

I quite like dragon girl with her hair up like this.

We are creating a fairy tale around Violet and Indigo, two ducks artfully decorated by Dr. Canard, which we’ve now turned into 'poetic robots’.

With the help of Drs. Figurine and Zboon, we have started a first story outline to guide their interactions, with dialog, music, sound effects, props and backdrops. Our goal is to capture the best scenes on video and edit it all together into a compelling story at the end of this project. I can’t wait to see how far we can go with this.

For this experiment with wonderbots and interactive storytelling, I am building a small puppet theater in my studio. Before building out a permanent framework, we are testing a few ideas, to best combine physical objects with digital images and sounds.

More to come ...

Edited smoke. Cropped, saturated green channel, boosted contrast, dodged out some smoke on left side.

With each passing year, thoughts harder to convene,

And the days of youth seem more like a dream.

Not dreary or doubtful, but lively and true-

Moments and flashes from whence he passed through.

Laughed at by girls, but rarely lamenting

Baseball and fishing and mischief unrelenting.

Oh the joy that he took, from the act of dissenting!

The man he is now is what the kid was inventing.

Inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy, Jon, Chris and Hannah created this piece of rock land art.

Writer and illustrator OisĂn McGann gave a very entertaining children's workshop on how to create 'Grandad'.

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image. Today's false color image shows part of the floor of Pasteur Crater. Pasteur Crater is located in Arabia Terra and is 116km (72 miles) in diameter.

The THEMIS VIS camera is capable of capturing color images of the Martian surface using five different color filters. In this mode of operation, the spatial resolution and coverage of the image must be reduced to accommodate the additional data volume produced from using multiple filters. To make a color image, three of the five filter images (each in grayscale) are selected. Each is contrast enhanced and then converted to a red, green, or blue intensity image. These three images are then combined to produce a full color, single image. Because the THEMIS color filters don't span the full range of colors seen by the human eye, a color THEMIS image does not represent true color. Also, because each single-filter image is contrast enhanced before inclusion in the three-color image, the apparent color variation of the scene is exaggerated. Nevertheless, the color variation that does appear is representative of some change in color, however subtle, in the actual scene. Note that the long edges of THEMIS color images typically contain color artifacts that do not represent surface variation.

This martian scene spans 19 x 67 kilometers (12 x 42 miles). To see where on Mars this area lies, and to download high-resolution versions of the image go to themis.asu.edu/zoom-20260429a
