Mark ‘Spoonman’ Petrakis and I are experimenting with new interactive storytelling ideas, starting with ‘Ubu’s Dreams’, a shadow puppet show.
In this design session, we reviewed our first scripts together and brainstormed ideas for moving puppets and props around the stage with technology support. We would like to create big heads that can express feelings by moving their eyes and mouths independently.
I showed Mark some of my head paintings, where we can see what the characters are thinking, with visual symbols of what’s on their minds. They illustrate how we fail to communicate by projecting different mental images on the same physical objects -- one of human nature’s most vexing challenges.
We plan to perform our first show during our Dada exhibit this fall at the Canessa Gallery in North Beach. I think we’re on the right track, but still have lots to do. Wish us luck!

I wrote a tutorial for the good peeps at Go Media!
Jeff Finley released a super cool collection of hand drawn occult symbols and other esoteric assets a little while back.
They asked me to explore ways to use the set of vectors, and to write about the result of the said exploration. So I did!
The result is a record sleeve for the fictional band Fiat Lux, which just worked on their Æterna record.

The Creating Balance exhibition opened today at Pitfield Pop-Up in Winchester.
The project has been over a year in the making and is the celebration of a collaboration between Anglepoise, The University of Portsmouth and Strong Island a community group from Portsmouth.
The strength and breadth of talent in Portsmouth has been showcased at the exhibition.
During the last year 10 artists and designers were twinned with 10 photographers and each given an Anglepoise lamp.
Final outcomes are on display along with 10 videos all made by students Massimo Mazullo and Jonas Jakunas on the BSc TV & Broadcasting course at The University of Portsmouth.
We launched the exhibition as part of The London Design Festival back in September and were also picked to be part of the Icon Design Trail and speak at the V&A gallery in London.
Everyone involved in the project has been overwhelmed by the support and reaction to the exhibition so far. Some lamps have been customised - artist My Dog Sighs used his lamp as a palette, design studio I Love Dust illustrated theirs, Paul Gonella and Tristan Savage submerged a lamp in the solent for 4 months and Russell Squires turned his lamp into an Anglebot.
Pitfield, Winchester is the perfect place to exhibit due to their incredible curation of the space. Pitfield Pop-Up by Pitfield of London (owned by Sean Clarkson an interior designer who appears on Channel 4;s Four Rooms) is a mixture of shop, cafe and gallery.
You can view the exhibition until 7th December, open Monday to Saturday 7.30am - 5.30pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Pitfield Pop-Up Winchester is located in the centre of the city right by the cathedral at The Brooks, Winchester. It will then open at aspex gallery, Portsmouth on 10th January 2014 until 16th February.

How far would you go to be beautiful? Media creates images that aren't possible. I love photoshop, but it creates a fake beauty. I love that beauty, but I don't try to imitate it. I wish other people understood most images in magazines are airbrushed. I'm happy with my looks. I've been feeling confident about them. I believe I am pretty, yet I feel ashamed to say that.
The media does not have anything to do with your life. I want to be active in my life, not active in some celebrity gossip or someone's facebook. Honestly it does not effect me.

I created this for Two Peas' Stamping A to Z Event. For the G is for... (Glossy Accents), H is for... (Hero Arts and heat embossing) and J is for... (jewels) challenges.
The focal piece for this card is Hero Arts H5396 Bird Garden, stamped using Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink onto 140# watercolor paper. After the pigment ink dried, I colored in the image using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils.
I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Large Rectangles to die cut and dry emboss it, and Classic Large Scalloped Rectangles to die cut and dry emboss the matte. I wrapped the focal piece with Together Twine (baker's twine) from My Mind's Eye's Lime Twist collection, then adhered it to the matte. Then I added clear jewels from Hero Arts CH117 Assorted Crystal Gemstones.
The intaglio heart is punched from chipboard, and colored to match. I heat embossed multiple layers of ultra thick embossing enamel (UTEE) on top, using my Heat It craft tool (heat gun). I pressed Hero Arts H5261 Flourish Trio into VersaMark watermark ink to prevent it from sticking, and then pressed it into the still-warm UTEE, and left it there until the UTEE cooled. Once it was cool, I removed the stamp and had this great, handmade intaglio embellishment.
Background is paper from BasicGrey's Recess 6x6 paper pad. I adhered the focal image and matte, and then attached the intaglio heart with foam squares for dimension. Ranger Stickles glitter glue in Crystal (similar to Diamond) was used to accent the two blue birds. And, Glossy Accents was added to accent the purple butterfly.

I read an interesting post by Chase Jarvis about creativity. He asked the community at large to finish the sentence "I'd be more creative if ....". I also watched the movie Perfume last night, in which one character asked to be left alone - he needed silence to learn how to create.
For me, silence is the best mechanism. Not silence in terms of sound, but the silence of the mind which in turns, creates a loud heart. One which yells with passion, creating an inspiring space because it's doing what it needs.
It's important to apply silence to our loud lives.
On the off-chance that people still leave comments on my photos - what do you think? Finish the sentence "I'd be more creative if...."

Did your group enjoy working on this project? This was a very nice way to combine art projects with the themes for our school this year.
Participants: There are 28 different works of art. Each one was created by a homeroom of 16 - 24 students. I have taken photos of the work as well as each homeroom with their work. I also had them answer the questions explaining their piece and will be sending that along with each piece.
What is your art about? Friendship and showin’ we can be be friends, together. We were at a table with friends.
Our school's theme this year is respect and responsibility. Each trimester we focus on how students can show this through self, others and the environment. Each grade was given a different component of this - 6th grade - environment, 7th grade - self, and 8th grade - others. I will be sending along a handout that was given to each homeroom to use in completing this project.

How can I make a difference?
In 2008, a group of educators and artists formed the International Fiber Collaborative (IFC) a non-profit organization with a mission to create deeper learning experiences through art, collaboration, and cross-curricular programming for individuals and their communities.
IFC’s current initiative, The Dream Rocket Project, started in 2009 has exhibited submissions in over 105 venues; in 2014 submissions will be connected side by side to wrap a 363’ Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL (48’ taller than the Statue of Liberty).
With every artwork received a student has had to ask; what is my dream for my future, and the future of my community and our world? How can students across our nation with many skills collaborate to make a difference? How can creativity and other subjects such as space, technology, science, and leadership inspire innovation? How can I make a difference?

The clock, created by John Flanagan (1865-1952), is constructed of a variety of brilliantly colored precious marbles against a mosaic background encircled by the signs of the zodiac in bronze. Above the clock a life-size figure of Father Time, executed in bronze, strides forward with scythe in hand.
To the left and right are the figures of maidens with children representing the seasons. The dial of the clock is approximately four feet in diameter and in the center is a gilt glory, or sunburst. The hands of the clock, which are also gilded, are jeweled with semiprecious stones.

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design Holloway, North London. Here are the details on the project
The Batchelor Pad Garden in Holloway, North London
BRIEF:
Earth Designs were contacted by this client to enquire about a design for his urban garden in North London in the spring of 2008. At the time the client decided to contract another design company and we did not hear anything further for a year. The client subsequently contacted us to request a quote based on the design that he had commissioned from our competitor. We were able to undercut the quoted price by a significant margin and consequently the client was happy to contract the project.
SOLUTION:
The garden is a north facing with very limited access and is located to the rear of a five storey converted Victorian school building. Due to its location, all materials needed to be transferred by hand through the building, down a flight of stairs, through several doors and round several corners. The road adjacent to the property is very busy, making deliveries difficult and potential crane hire extremely expensive. However, Earth Designs have completed many gardens with limited access and so we have become have become adept at finding the best and least disruptive ways of transporting substantial amounts of materials and waste to and from a space. The design included a built-in hot tub which was to be a feature of the space. However, the specifications of the spa meant that it would be impossible transport through the property and therefore would need to be lifted by crane over the 5 storey property. This would have been cost preclusive, so we were able to advise the client on alternative hot tub selection and offer electrical installation and project management of the hot tub installation. The client also requested additional items beyond the contracted work, which we were happy to facilitate.
The garden itself was well designed, with raised rendered block beds to the rear of the garden and two chunky pergolas with shade sail covers providing privacy from the flats above. The garden was paved throughout with Indian grey sandstone in a random pattern.
