Today, the preschool teachers were in their classrooms, cleaning things up. They vacuumed carpets, wiped down hard surfaces, ...and of course, cleaned toys, in anticipation of the students' arrival. I went into the kitchen and found this scene. Naked women and camo-clad men, heaped in a dish drainer. I suppose the unintentional symbolism is self-evident. As culture creates gender, we create it intentionally unequal . . .and dehumanizing. What we're teaching our children will last a lifetime. Day four for Project 365.

This was my submission, "Create..." to the 1st Annual Chain-link Fence Art Exhibition and Competition. Had a lot of fun with this, inspired by chain-link fencing of which I’ve never worked with before, tricky stuff ;) My arms got a work out.

MATERIALS: a 4 ft. x 4ft. scrap piece of chain-link fencing, a found barbeque grill (web), crystals, glass beads, found metal nuts/bolts/washers, metal wire and scrap telephone wire. I wanted people to discover the message in the spider’s web, “create” that would tie into the leading ant’s message of peace, happiness, laughter, love, opportunity, dreams, something(!). It’s good fun if we choose to create positive things for ourselves and the world :)

If you are curious about the process and the other versions/redo’s that went into this piece, please visit my blog to see more!

365/365 (12.31.2011)

“But, if you have nothing at all to create, then perhaps you create yourself.” ~ Carl Jung

What an extraordinary journey into self-discovery, creativity and seeing things in an entirely new way this 365 project has been. It has changed my life, for the better, in so many profound and wonderful ways. Heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have supported me on this journey - I'd never have made it without you.

Happy 365! Happy New Year 2012!

So, these are the letters I created by printing text on a sticky A4 and cutting out the letters using the Cuttlebug machine. I copy-pasted the (French) text from a French website and altered the fonts.

Eli is adoring his duplo at the moment. He's always liked it, but up til a few weeks ago, the only thing he'd do with it was build platforms - creating layers and layers on top of the base blocks. Suddenly the potential seems to have become clear to him and he'll spend ages (and both buckets of blocks) creating huge, multi level circus rings, chocolate factories, or houses, with people/animals/Buzz Lightyear dotted around and playing key parts in the game. A lot of the bricks (including these train ones) are from Nick's childhood.

inspired by childhood dream of a spooky barn boatride featuring animatronic and costumed characters loosely themed on 70s vintage fast food motifs.

I should mention that this was not a nightmare, but a thoroughly fun child's dream where we were riding through a spooky barn on boats and being served hamburgers, fries, shakes and other common fast food items.

One of the earliest dreams I can recall.

mmm.. ^^_

Fauxgo is a blog dedicated to documenting fake logos that have appeared in favorite Hollywood films.

Check out their compilation of fake brand logos and identities created for the film industry to use in movies. The effort is sort of an attempt by Hollywood to get away with using popular logos and brand-identities - that way they can still instill the "feeling" without having to pay the brand for royalties (or perhaps the brand wouldn't let them use the logo in the first place).

If it was in fact a true guerrilla marketing effort (by becoming so close to the original logo that it attracted press) it would probably be deemed a pretty wise idea. Nonetheless, these logos are still pretty neat and may serve as some creative inspiration for your next guerrilla marketing campaign.

Check out all fictitious logos at the Fauxgo.com website. Which are your favorites? Are there any made-up logos that were featured in movies that is missing?

My "Create-a-Monster" triclops, Ajna, finally got her make-over. I rooted her hair using "Sour Grapes", "Bobby Blue" and "Daiquari Ice" nylon hair from dollyhair.com. I got the inspiration from this wig: www.ebay.com/itm/1-3-8-9-Dal-Pullip-BJD-SD-LUTS-BLYTH-Dol... (which I bought for one of my Pullips, but I haven't found anyone to wear it yet)

PETE’S MOUNTAIN MAKES SWEET WINE

In the late 1850s Pete Weiss claimed a perfect plot of land overlooking the Willamette River Valley. The place came to be known as Pete’s Mountain—a tribute to his dedication and love for the land. In 2005, Mike Thayer came to us in search of a new logo for his recently acquired vineyard. We developed an identity and label design that captured the rustic quality of the mountain while conveying the quality and elegance of a high-end Oregon Pinot.
