Sat in my office right now in melting heat, sweat pouring from my brow, tshirt stuck to my moobs......its hot, too damn hot!
I console myself in memories of last Saturday evening and my session at Portland which had such blessed cool air.....sooo coool.
I really did try to get some different angles of the lighthouse on this chill evening but ended up being drawn to Pulpit rock (which will now be known as Guiness rock as thats what it looks like now at night with that 'kin MOD light hitting the top of it!).
However, this one did strike me as rather nice. It might be the cool blue tones of the image, yeah cool cooooooll cooooooool blue tones....stop it Simon!
I am not built for heat. My 6ft 4 in frame, blonde hair and blue eyes hark back to the far north, pulling an oar on a longboat, cutting through icy seas with snow smashing into my bearded face.....ah yes snow....cool cooolll coooooool snow...
I give up. I'm going to run a bath of cold water and sit in it until my toes turn into prunes. Laters peeps!

Those who took photos at orchid shows during general admission time know how challenging it is to get a clean, quality shot. The background is too cluttered, the light is too harsh or too weak, the exhibits are often placed too close to each other etc. After looking in frustration on my computer screen at photos taken at one show I started playing with images, and a Cool Orchids series was born :-)
The lovely old stone bridge crossing over the crystal clear water of the River Derwent at Grange near Keswick in the Lake District.
Ferns and mosses on a fallen tree, deep in the heart of the Styx Valley in southern Tasmania.
The area has been extensively logged but a tiny remnant of the original cool temperate rainforest exists as a reserve for big trees.
The Big Tree reserve is easily accessible to Hobart - only slightly over an hour's drive to be surrounded by a forest so much older than you. If you visit Mount Field National Park then it behooves you to do the extra 30mins up the road into the Styx Reserve. After a visit it's not hard to see why the logging of these forests has been a source of unrest for many years.

One i shot a couple of night,s ago . Nothing different but i had a nice peaceful time up there on my own . Although the final photograph is important , i enjoy the whole process of being out there and using the gear making choses seeing what i can do . I am sure it,s that way for most landscape lovers .

Found this hooded oriole having a ball splashing about in the water on a hot day in south Texas. It was quite the social bird, putting on a dazzling display of bathing and water splashing. The hooded oriole is one of 10 different oriole species that can be found in North America.
I know that many of us can relate to the heat these days. 107 degrees as we traveled through Colorado yesterday afternoon. The good news for us is that if we travel upwards in elevation, it gets tremendously cooler ... often by 20-25 degrees, sometimes more. I hope that everyone finds ways to cool off this summer. :-)

I was messing with my brother's boots today. :) They were just sitting there, so I put them on and took some pics. They were a little big (wow, was that an oxymoron?!), can you tell?? :P I think I might have to get some of my own... just about 5-6 sizes smaller... and you know... in women's style.

I learn from Roy Strom's website that much of the company's early success depended on their relationship with the Milwaukee Road railroad and that this logo is derived from the logo for the Milwaukee Road's Hiawatha Line.

At the time, i had just been to a photography club in Margate, and was out for a drive, when i saw there was a low fog. This fog was not to the ground so you could drive under and see perfectly clearly, but any one traveling on the top deck of a double decker bus, may be restricted for view. (to give you some idea how low the fog was. This is no exageration)
There is a small road with a railway crossing, and i am parked up on a dirt track leading to farmers fields, The fog started to lift a bit when i started taking some photos, and the results from my evening are all simular to this. I picked the best one out of the bunch to display.
The only unfortunate thing is, it is very hard to show the fog. Its strange, that if i stood on a bank beside the road, i could jump up and put my hand into the fog! it was a very cold evening there and after 9 photos of 15 to 40 second exposures, i was very cold and got back in the car to warm up.
