Pretty cool macro considering I don't have a macro lens! I do want to buy one though, maybe later when I've saved up enough money as they can be quite pricey Hmm, enjoy this close-up of a flower! I shall try and do shots similar to this! x

While venturing down the stairs to Websters Falls I dropped my Manfrotto Tripod and myself and Mark watched it bounce down the stairs barely missing Kerry's head by inches. In the end the tripod was ruined and I had no option but to go out and look for some cool Macros.
While putting on my macro lens, I closed my camera bag, and under the flap of my bag, I found this little guy just hanging around waiting in this perfect pose for me.

While searching my neighbor's flower beds for spring shots (yes, I asked if I could), I discovered her giant "Hens and Chicks". I was going for a cool macro shot, but the lighting wasn't that good, so I decided to play with photoshop. This hen and chick plant has been stylized with "sumi-e".

Not even gravity can stop this grasshopper from levitating just above my camera.
Okay, I understand that inquiring minds want to know how this shot was achieved. I was working out inside the YMCA and I noticed there was a grasshopper crawling around on the outside of the window. So, I pulled out my pocket camera and cautiously approached. Once I realized it couldn't see my pocket camera though the tinted window, I had multiple opportunities to get some cool macro shots of this hopper.
I have some more shots, but this one is probably the most interesting. I may post a few more in the future. I'm glad there weren't too many people working out at the Y that day. They probably thought I was crazy.

I'm sure some of you already know about this trick but I just tried it out for the first time today:
I turned my 50mm lens around and used it to take a macro photo. So cool!!!
I read about this on the Coffeeshop blog: www.thecoffeeshopblog.com/2010/09/coffeeshop-tutorial-mic...
I understand the risks associated with this (dust, dropping the lens, etc) and its not something I see myself doing very often but I wanted to at least try it out.
It seems there is a very small window to get the focus just right. I took 15 shots and got only one that was usable. Again, not something I will be doing often but still pretty cool.
