The Consolidation mine was much more than just a hard coal mine: it was the engine of Gelsenkirchen, 'the city of a thousand fires'. Workplace for countless employees.

Since 1865, the mine experienced a legendary rise that lasted more than 100 years.

This Conveyor is the longest conveyor in the New River Gorge. 1385 Feet Long this is a Beautiful site. I Wish all the building's and Conveyors could've been Saved

8th April 2017 - I have a particular fondness for the Atlantic Conveyor (As do many British men of my age) due to the legend that accompanies the name. In a very short while that name leaves Lloyds list forever, So this is my little tribute shot to a British (Newcastle) built maritime institution.

The C&O railroad always has been a conveyor for coal. Here we see empties heading east down the Columbus Subdivision north of Carey, Ohio.

12th August 2017 - My last view of a legendary name in maritime history. The final call of the replacement vessel, built on the Tyne.. for the 'Atlantic Conveyor' that was torpedoed and then sank under tow in 1982. Hopefully the name will be revived at some point in the future when ACL upgrades its fleet

The only touch of sunlight all day catches the nose of 40106 as it leaves Safari Cutting, Bewdley on a service to Kidderminster.

The cutting is named very logically after the adjacent West Midlands Safari Park. Part of the perimeter fence can be seen on the right of the shot.

40106 was built in 1960 and has been resident at the Severn Valley Railway since 2018.

BNSF's Mendota Sub is the conduit for loaded coal trains heading for Chicago and interchange to eastern railroads. On a normal day, one might see six loaded and empty coal trains rolling along with 130-mile route from Galesburg to Aurora, IL. A gray Sunday afternoon at Earlville finds another loaded coal train heading east. The high green on the westbound main is for manifest freight M-BRCKCK that will be through town shortly after the rear DPU locomotive on this loaded coal train clears town.
