Rules of Composition
- this composition is allowed when the Background is plain with one color or a certain pattern
Why is this a good picture
- the subject is clearly focused on, and the background is plain and simple, doesn't have too much texture and it follows the rule of composition
How can this be improved
- if the photo was taken from a distance, a bit further will make the background stand out. Control the brightness on the right and left side of the photo
After my daytime shots, i decided to go back and snap a few night shots. (February 2011)

Constantemente, el mundo en el que vivimos engendra desencanto y rechazo. Las sectas aprovechan este resentimiento para proponer algo "más", una respuesta a las muy escasas opciones que proporcionan la sociedad y la familia.

Was reminded of these controlled burn photos from last year, so thought I'd post a couple of my favorites....
Controlled burn by Dane County Park personnel at Cam-Rock Park in Cambridge, Wisconsin. April 28, 2009.
Gluing Basilica windows to a foam and duct-tape armature. The armature should hold them in a nice, regular, pentagonal shape while I fit extra columns and a top to fix them together properly.
All the computing activity happens here, with no dependency on
controlling computer or any part of the robot body. It has heavy duty construction and is easily exchangeable, which is useful for upgrades or replacements.
In the past I've taken photos of Tom's and my brothers guitars, so I thought it was time to photograph my own. Here's a couple of photos of my Epiphone Dot which I've owned for about the last 7 years.
Part of the woods caught on fire at Stony Creek Metropark on April 1, 2010. The green in the background is the prairie area that also burned.
There was a controlled burn of my favorite prairie at the mountain bike trails/Shelden Estates area of Stony Creek Metropark on April 1, 2010.
It looks like some of the fire spread to the woods. I guess that makes it uncontrolled.
An article about the burn appeared in the Oakland Post:

My first attempt at using a strobe in landscapes, and I think I'm hooked. SB-28 off camera at 1/3 power with 20" exposure to burn in the rest. It was close to total darkness.
Control House at Gatún Locks, Panama Canal, 1965. Each control tower has a model board of the lock system governed by that tower. Note the wraparound deck, where staff often ate lunch. Approaching at the higher level of the canal.

this project is called the "wash away project". this project is a student run project organized and created by me about resilience and inner strength and the ability to overcome personal shadows, or any personal fight that has made the person feel small, uncontroled or powerless. The people in these photos write the word (or words) that represented their own personal adversity or hardship they have faced in their lives. Their word is written on their face or any part of the body they choose. They are then splashed with water to "wash away" the word that once held them back. The water represents the resilience to not let personal struggle dominate who you are and what you are limited to. They have accepted that the word is part of them but they can accelerate past it and move forward to be the person they are. My main focus for the project was that each subject's word does not control where life will take them. The only thing that really matters is to have the heart and resilience to make the word "wash away".

I love the control room of this old bascule bridge. Apparently the bridge was built in the 1940s, and it looks like the control hasn't been refitted since then...
