African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma addresses the African Union delegates during her courtesy visit to African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) in Durban.
This event explored how the public can be more effectively and constructively engaged in decision making about public sector markets.
The public understandably want to be involved in decisions on the shape of public services. The quality and value of public services – rather than who provides them – continues to be a top priority for users. But many are still on the fence when it comes to the way in which public sector markets work. People want to know how decisions are taken, how they can be involved in these decisions, and that governments and providers will take responsibility for successes and mistakes alike. This event gave an updated perspective on citizens’ attitudes to public sector markets and explore how government and providers can better involve the public in their design and delivery. It also looked at how transparency can be improved and who should be accountable if things go wrong.
This event was Chaired by Sarah Neville, Public Policy Editor, Financial Times. There will be time for Q&A.
and the Panellists were:
Geraldine Blake – Chief Executive, Community Links
Bobby Duffy – Managing Director, Ipsos MORI
Nick Bell - Chief Executive, Prospects Services
Laura Bunt – Head of Policy Research and Communications at Citizens Advice
This was the fourth and final event in a series sponsored by the Business Services Association on Where next for public service markets?
The Institute for Government would like to thank the BSA for supporting the four events in the Markets series.

Well, nothing special in here, thou I don't wanna sound like someone in my position would, so listen carefully...
Those 30sec exposure shots were made on a tripod, on midnight, at shores of the Dead Sea, Israel, while I was calibrating my camera for further long-exposure night shots. These orbs revealed on my Nikon's 3" preview monitor, and I didnt see them in real time - with my own eyes. Then, I took another few shots hoping to get rid of those "disturbing artifacts", though surprisingly they appeared in different locations and apparently were moving too. Additional shots caught them all in different locations, moving etc. Hence, without further ado, I took my stuff and went back to the hotel.
