After the first approach I had another trip to the "other end" of the route closure. This cyclist is approaching the City from the south, travelling along the pretty good separated route on Winterstoke Road that starts right back on the edge of Bedminster.

The suggested diversion sends him onto an overpass that might lead him where he wants to go. Getting lost will be easy as signage is very poor even without the diversion in operation. I notice one or two people on bikes ignoring the closure and using the road, which is at least oneway in the required direction.

A breaker, often referred to as a "hoe ram" or "ho rammer", is used at the Kansas City Southern site for demolition work.

A breaker is a powerful percussion hammer fitted to an excavator for demolishing concrete structures or rocks. It is powered by an auxiliary hydraulic system from the excavator, which is fitted with a foot-operated valve for this purpose. Additionally, demolition crews employ the hoe ram for jobs too large for jack hammering or areas where blasting is not possible due to safety or environmental issues.

I learned that the garden is being transformed in a major way for a special event taking place next month. A dance floor is being built over the pool! (Or maybe the guard was pulling my leg, but it does look like they are building a floor over the pool.)

Here is a closer view, zooming in to get the shot. I got this in the morning, after emerging from the 7th and Metro Station. I have more time in the morning between traveling and starting work. It is the end of the day that I am rushing to catch the first Red Line in order to catch as early a bus as possible back home.

Construction of the second canal in progress.

The area around my apartment has been effectively a building site for three or four years and I am really pleased by the fact the majority of projects will be completed by the end of this year.

The major project with the biggest impact on my living environment is the Luas Cross City project but the good news for me is that the working date for opening the new route to passengers is December 9th/10th. Of course I do not know if the service it self will have unexpected negative social impacts but I am hoping that if there are any they will be more than compensated for by the positives. It would appear that property prices are increasing but as I do not wish to move this is not really relevant to me [except for an increase in property tax]

There will be two tram stops on O’Connell Street.

The GPO Stop will be located within the median of O’Connell Street Lower, north of Middle Abbey Street and will be conveniently located to provide interchange with the Luas Red Line at the Abbey Street stop. This is an important description because it contains a bit of information that might surprise some people. The common belief is that the purpose of the Cross-City was to connect the Red Line and the Green Line services but this is not actually true from a service point of view because users will need to interchange between the lines near the GPO

Now tell me again: Will somebody call the police when I ignore the tape in order to get into our house or will I have to go back to work and camp out there until the construction work is done (supposedly July 31, 2009, for this phase)?

I Geo-Tagged these photographs so that you can identified where I visited. My photographs show a very narrow road that one needs to walk from Laughanstown Tram Stop to get to the old church and graveyard at Tully. As you can see from my photographs some people are are using the area as a rubbish dump. There are signs of extensive construction work under way in the area but some elements have the appearance of a stalled project.

If you visit this road take care as there is a surprising amount of traffic.

Laughanstown: The spelling of this name has varied considerably over time, and in some periods was almost indistinguishable from Loughlinstown, the name of which also varied. The spelling Laughanstown was adopted and fixed at the

time of the original Ordnance Survey in the 1830s. However, the evidence suggests that the name used locally was Lehaunstown, and this was noted by the Boundary Survey in the 1820s. Local usage did not change as a result

of the Ordnance Survey’s attempt to impose a new spelling.

The Interstate 10 bridge over Ward's Creek will be reconstructed as part of the Geaux Wider construction program.
