Most of the mills in Mumbai used to be in this area till some years ago. Now, most of these mills have shut down. Lower Parel is Mumbai's new posh, it is now dominated with luxury skyscraper apartments, upscale restaurants and bars, premium office space, luxury hotels and boutiques from around the world

Bauarbeiten am S-Bhf. Yorckstraße (Großgörschenstraße) - S1 - für den Austauschen der alten Brücken des Gleises Richtung Wannsee / Potsdam finden bereits seit vielen Monaten statt und sind inzwischen abgeschlossen; jetzt ist die Gegenrichtung dran.
Vor ein paar Monaten wurde endlich ein Baustellenschild aufgestellt und ein Ende der Bauarbeiten tatsächlich für den 20.12.2014 (!) angekündigt. Lassen wir uns überraschen mit wie viel Verspätung dieses Bauprojekt erledigt wird.
Inzwischen gibt es Veröffentlichungen, die als Endtermin für die Bauarbeiten das Frühjahr 2015 bzw. September 2015 nennen. Mal sehen was dann stimmt!

(Interesting mainly for people who know the area and want to see what changed already. I visit the place from time to time to keep myself posted. Hemer is preparing for the Landesgartenschau 2010 (State Horticulutural Show, German source).)
This photo shows the rebuilt Ostenschlahstraße and the brandnew Seuthestraße (not opened on the day this photo has been taken, but soon after). The Seuthestraße is where the now removed dead end railroad tracks have been - Google Maps still shows them between Bahnhofstraße and Am Perrick).
I like the new street, it looks 100 times better than the mess of abandoned railroad tracks, uncontrolled growth and trash-dump that had been there for years.

Tideway.
Kirtling Street (Nine Elms, Wandsworth).
The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a major new sewer that will help tackle the problem of overflows from the capital's Victorian sewers and will protect the River Thames from increasing pollution for at least the next 100 years.
This site is on the southern bank of the River Thames and comprises four areas of land as well as an area extending into the Thames.
It will be used to drive the main tunnel to Carnwath Road Riverside in the west and towards Chambers Wharf in the east. A new jetty in the river foreshore allows delivery of materials and remove excavated spoil by barge. The acoustic shed allows noise and dust from our tunneling work to be kept inside the shed. A recently installed our gantry cranes inside the shed enables them to move materials and machinery into the tunnel.

Storm surge barrier in Oosterschelde (East Scheldt), between Islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, North Sea on the left. Under normal circumstances the barrier is open to allow for the tide to enter and exit. In case of high tides in combination with storm, the slides are closed.

Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Nieuwe Waterweg, 28-09-2014; Functioneringssluiting Maeslantkering. De waterkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg wordt eenmaal per jaar, voordat het stormseizoen begint, getest. Tijdens het sluiten van de kering ligt alle scheepvaartverkeer naar de Rotterdamse haven stil.
De Maeslantkering sluit normaal gesproken alleen bij dreigende stromvloed en bij een waterstand van 3 meter of meer boven NAP. De kering, onderdeel van de Deltawerken, vormt samen met de Hartelkering de Europoortkering en beschermt Rotterdam en achterland bij extreme waterstanden.

Vijzelgracht, Amsterdam.
Here's the story:
The fire brigade has removed some 20 occupants of four monumental buildings at Vijzelgracht, in Amsterdam center, because their homes had subsided during then night as a direct result of construction work for a new leg of Amsterdam’s subway system.
In June this year, another four buildings at Vijzelgracht were also damaged when a dam alongside the construction area had sprung a leak. This lowered the level of groundwater, causing the ground on which the historic houses were built to become unstable, allowing the houses — considered monuments — to sink several centimeters.

At the time construction work in that area was stopped while contractors and the city sought for possible solutions to the problem.
Among other things, contractors have inserted support beams underneath the houses. They have also injected grout which, in the process, raised the buildings to a level that makes it possible to start renovation work.
Assurances
Subway construction activities were resumed only just yesterday, with a spokesman for the ‘North-South line’ project assuring viewers of local TV station AT5 that occupants of the buildings alongside that stretch of the project had nothing to worry about.
Those occupants remained skeptical, and they warned the fire brigade themselves when they noticed cracks appearing in walls.
Many Amsterdammers voted against the new subway line, but the referendum was declared invalid because not enough people voted.
Developers claimed the project would be ready by 2011, at a cost of €300 million. Currently the project is slated to be finished in 2016, at a cost of €900 million. While the federal government provided initial financing, Amsterdam City itself is fully responsible for the extra costs. Naturally that kind of problem never hurts the politicians involved, but rather those affected by reduced subsidies and other forms of cost-cutting elsewhere.
Measuring System
A state-of-the-art measuring system is in place, in which the position of thousands of mirrors attached to buildings are checked by computer with the use of laser beams.
Critics of the project point out that once the system registers a problem, the damage has already been done.
Contractors say some subsiding cannot be helped. For instance, putting a dam into place to form the construction pit is likely to cause subsiding of 10 millimeters. Total subsiding due to the project will not, they claim, exceed 25 millimeters.
"We are simply reviewing our business strategy to make sure the development proceeds in the most opportune way to meet changing investor needs."

Bouwwerkzaamheden bij het Jaarbeursplein en Utrecht CS.
Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Gemeente Dirksland, 10-06-2015; Haringvliet met Haringvlietsluizen en Haringvlietdam. Zesde werk van de Deltawerken, verbindt met de N57 Voorne-Putten en Goeree-Overflakkee. In het kader van modern natuurbeheer ('getemd getij') gaan de sluizen tegenwoordig bij eb en vloed beperkt open om de getijden hun enigszins terug te laten komen in het estuarium.
Dam and sluices between islands Voorne-Putten en Goeree-Overflakkee. The sluices are for draining water coming from the rivers Rhine and Maas (Meuse) from the natural bassin to the North sea. Modern ecological insight has led to opening the sluices semi-permanently, resulting in the estuary function of the Haringvliet patially being restored.
