HOW TO EAT FRUITS? 

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think.

It's important to know how and when to eat.

DON'T EAT FRUIT AFTER MEALS!

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

It will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

Eat fruit on an empty stomach or before meals! People complain, "Every time I eat watermelon I burp; when I eat apples, my stomach bloats up; when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc ” This will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas, hence you will bloat!

Grey hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under eyes will NOT happen by taking fruit on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. Master the correct way of eating fruits, and you will have beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

Drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: A good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: .. have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessening the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. A key source of lycopene the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after meals = Cancer!

It will solidify the oily stuff you have just consumed and slow down digestion... Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. This will turn into fats and lead to cancer. Better to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': Not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of pain in the jaw line. You may never have chest pain during a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are common symptoms. Sixty percent who have an attack while asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can awaken you.

A cardiologist says if everyone sends this message to 10 people, you can be sure it'll save at least one life.

From the April 2009 issue of Korean Health Journal, the strangest piece of junkmail I've ever received. See set for more.

This makes me giggle every time I look at it!

Oh god... that's just... wrong?

#Cannabis is actually something a lot of people with #stage #4 #cancer actually use. Some people do feel a bit fearful about the subject, and with cannabis, it can help with reducing #pain, #anxiety, and even #depression and such.

Stages of Cancer

Cancer comes in four stages. The first one is the situ stage, where it’s been found, and usually something they treat immediately. Usually, the treatment does involve surgery, radiation, and medications for up to 4 years afterwards, and they look at the location frequently to ensure the cancer cells don’t return.

Stage two is usually when the tumor has been found within the lymph nodes, however they usually look to treat those cells and get them into remission before it grows in other area.

Stage three is usually found deep within the #lymph #nodes. This is the area that gives nutrients to the body, with the lymph nodes feeding a lot of cells, and the fluid gets carried to other parts of the body as well.

Usually there are two types, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma. There is also acute lymphocytic leukemia, and usually, testing the lymph node tells you where it originated.

Finally, there is stage 4 where it’s professed past the need for medical intervention, and usually, if it’s progressed without any chance of stopping it, the main focus is on care, with some choosing to stop radiation and chemotherapy, and instead focused on hospice care.

Compassionate Care

As cancer starts to become a part of the human body, there are usually no signs at first, but then over time, people start to notice more and more signs. This can be traumatizing and impact the well-being of people. Many people who do have cancer have issues with their mental health, and for a good reason.

#Compassion care usually involves looking for other #solutions, and marijuana has become a very popular way to treat this.

This is because opioid use has actually been a major problem, with it starting to show up more and more. many people don’t realize how they’re starting to take more and more, becoming addicted to it.

It can also cause sensitivity, which causes more pain, along with confusion, euphoria, constipation, slowed breathing, and a lot of fatigue.

How Cannabis Helps

For those families who have decided that compassion care is the best way to help their loved one, they may consider possibly using cannabis for this. It can be something that makes it easier for those with terminal diagnosis.

Appetite stimulation is a big part, as cancer medications and

even the procedures cut off the good #bacteria in your gut, making it hard to eat.

Cannabis can help get people to actually eat, and it can help those with wasting disease too.

It also helps with pain issues too, as another major part of this is pain in the body, especially since many of the medical treatments involve a lot of procedures which can be incredibly painful. Plus, with more and more people looking for alternatives to #opioids, It can be something that can help a patient get the help that they need.

Finally, it does improve the mood. For those with #terminal #cancer, it’s not easy. They may feel fatigued and fearful, with even those who are very strong emotionally feeling this. It can be good for them, giving them some energy, and it can help to amplify the #energy and improve your focus, even a little bit, reducing #anxiety and other problems too.

So it helps those with stage 4 cancer quite a bit with living their life.

Hemorrhoids are plainly uncomfortable. During sex, they can at times cause a feeling of uncomfort. Generally speaking, when aroused, there is more blood flow to not only the genetalia but also the anal region. So when the anus is engulfed with blood, it naturally increases the pressure in the vein. This can result in the flaring-up of hemorrhoids. Sometimes the flare-up can be painful. Worst case, the flare-up can also lead to rectal bleeding in some cases. Also generally, people with piles have a feeling of uneasiness during the intercourse due to pain. This is one of the common complaint. The pain is felt more by women with piles as the vaginal region is closer to the anal region.

If you feel your hemorrhoids have flared-up, use a recommended topical cream to treat the pain. The best thing to do is having a sitz bath to ease the pain. Always keep the anal region clean and dry. Do not allow moist to stay in the area as it might increase itchiness. As recommended, keep your constipation under check by having fiber-rich diet. Take necessary medication only as prescribed. Drink more water and keep yourself hydrated.

Kegels exercises are often promoted as being the cure all, end all exercise for pelvic floor dysfunction and to strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles. Many women may have even experienced this during their postpartum follow ups, during a doctor visit for incontinence or pelvic floor pain, or even just researching online ways to strengthen their pelvic floor – kegel exercises are preached and praised by countless exercise teachers and physical therapists worldwide.

Yet, are kegels really the cure all for strengthening the pelvic floor? Are there other exercises out there that may actually help women better regain a strong pelvic floor without ever using kegels?

In this blog I will attempt to address the popularity of kegel exercises, their intent, and additional exercises that may prove to help strengthen the pelvic floor more efficiently for a variety of reasons.

What are Kegels?

The kegel exercise was first published in the United States by Dr. Henry Arnold Kegel in 1948. Dr. Kegel discovered that one of the most common symptoms experienced by postpartum women was a relaxed or weakened pelvic floor. He believed that this was due to possible nerve damage, tearing of connective tissues, and the muscles stretching during childbirth. As a result, Dr. Kegel formulated an exercise that he believed properly tightened the pelvic floor in order to regain strength and restore the pelvic floor muscles to their natural state.

Thus, in short, the Kegel exercise was developed as a method for contracting the pelvic floor and strengthening the weakened muscles. If the pelvic floor muscles are stretched and loose, exercising them via release and contraction begin treating some of the adverse side effects of a weakened pelvic floor: urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, and more.

Why Kegels?

Kegels are often encouraged to help treat a weakened pelvic floor that may be the result of: pregnancy and childbirth, surgery or injury, or a symptom of excessive straining from constipation or chronic coughing.

Kegels may be “prescribed” if you are experiencing:

Urinary or fecal incontinence

Have a strong urge to urinate

Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse

Pain or discomfort in the bladder or bowel during urination or fecal movement

These symptoms may be a result of a loose pelvic floor, in which kegel exercises may help

How Do You Perform a Kegel Exercise?

To perform a kegel exercise, it is important to first:

Expel any urine in your body before performing Kegels

Identify the right muscles – your pelvic floor muscles: in order to do this, it may be easiest to first lie on your back. Once in position, you should picture stopping your flow of urination or holding in flatulence. The muscles you feel contract in your lower abdomen and lower back are your pelvic floor muscles.

Practice the technique: instruction for how to best perform kegels varies, yet one of the most common techniques is sitting with your feet tucked under your bum, with your arms placed on your hips. Once you have found your pelvic floor muscles, you should practice contracting these muscles for roughly 5 seconds as if you’re lifting something off the ground, and then slowly relax them for 5 seconds.

Focus on contracting just your pelvic floor muscles: for the best results (and so you don’t harm yourself) it is important to focus only on your pelvic floor muscles during this exercise. Be careful to not contract muscles in your abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and avoid holding your breath. Remember to breathe freely during this exercise.

Repeat multiple times a day: Some doctors and specialists recommend repeating this exercise several times a day (roughly 3 sets of 10 – 15 repetitions).

Are Pelvic Floor Exercises the Same as Kegels?

Yes and no, kegels are a type of pelvic floor exercise. A Kegel exercise is only a single technique or method for contracting and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles. Yet, many professionals tend to lump all other pelvic floor exercises under the term “Kegels.”

Although Kegels are a very popular technique for strengthening the pelvic floor, there are many other methods for increasing pelvic health and strength without kegels. The 2 main issues with kegels are that they assume everyone needs that type of muscle contraction – they do not. The other issue is they do not train for the task. We do them from a still position, whereas life is dynamic, includes load, includes movement on multi planes. Our pelvic floor is designed to reflexively support all of that – if that has been lost, and we do have an injury, then training dynamically so that the pelvic floor responds is a much more appropriate method. You would not train for a marathon by lying someone on their back and doing running moves with their legs pumping the air so why are we doing that to the pelvic floor?

In some cases, kegels may actually be more damaging to the pelvic floor! So then the question rises: how do I treat pelvic floor dysfunction without kegels?

How to Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor

Education is one of the primary benefits that we at RYC® offer in our programs. Understanding where your pelvic floor muscles are located and how they affect your body can help benefit your recovery. In my program, I help men and women learn more about how their bodies work and how proper pelvic floor muscle training can teach them how to engage their bodies properly during their muscle training exercises.

Will Kegels Treat Pelvic Floor Dysfunction or Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

Exercise can be a great way to heal your pelvic floor. Unfortunately, in many work out programs for postpartum people and others seeking pelvic floor recovery, kegel exercises are the most commonly recommended exercise to use. However, kegel exercises can actually increase stiffness and make it harder to feel your pelvic floor muscles. Avoiding unnecessary contraction during pelvic floor exercises can be beneficial to recovering the strength and mobility of your pelvic floor muscles.

If we want things to shift in our pelvic floor, we need to also shift the habit mode of our muscles. In the case of our pelvic floors, there tends to be much confusion. Is my pelvic floor too tight? Not tight enough? How can I tell the resting tension? How can I fix it? Before we set out to resolve/fix our pelvic floor dysfunction we need to first “know” our pelvic floor. Know what engaging it feels like, what releasing it feels like, and how to control both contracting and releasing it. Only then we can discern what our tendencies are and create new movement patterns and choices.

Pelvic Floor Exercises Better Than Kegels

Pelvic Tilt: If you have a yoga ball, you may begin seated on the ball with your feet flat on the floor hip-width apart (or you may sit on a yoga mat with your feet criss-crossed in front of you if you don’t have a stability ball). Lengthen your spine by stacking your shoulders over your hips, placing your hands on your waist. Slowly begin tucking and untucking your pelvis by drawing your hip bones toward the ribs and sticking your buttocks out behind you. You should try to repeat 2 sets of 10 reps.

Carbonated water eases the symptoms of indigestion (dyspepsia) and constipation, according to a recent study in the European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2002; 14: 9919).

Dyspepsia is characterized by a group of symptoms including pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen, early sense of fullness after eating, bloating, belching, nausea, and sometimes vomiting. Approximately 25% of people living in Western societies suffer from dyspepsia every year, and the condition accounts for 2 to 5% of all visits to primary care providers. Inadequate motion in the digestive tract (peristalsis) is believed to be an important cause of dyspepsia. Other gastrointestinal problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome and constipation, frequently accompany dyspepsia.

Antacid medicationsover the counter acid neutralizers, prescription medicines that block stomach acid production, and medications that stimulate peristalsisare primary treatments for dyspepsia. However, antacids can interfere with the digestion and absorption of nutrients, and there is a possible association between long-term use of the acid-blocking drugs and increased risk of stomach cancer. Other healthcare providers recommend dietary changes, such as eating small frequent meals, reducing fat intake, and identifying and avoiding specific aggravating foods. For smokers with dyspepsia, quitting smoking is also recommended. Constipation is treated with increased water and fiber intake. Laxative medications are also prescribed by some practitioners, while others may test for food sensitivities and imbalances in the bacteria of the colon and treat these to alleviate constipation.

In this study, carbonated water was compared with tap water for its effect on dyspepsia, constipation, and general digestive function. Twenty-one people with indigestion and constipation were randomly assigned to drink at least 1. 5 liters daily of either carbonated or tap water for at least 15 days or until the end of the 30-day trial. At the beginning and the end of the trial all of the participants were given indigestion and constipation questionnaires and tests to evaluate stomach fullness after eating, gastric emptying (movement of food out of the stomach), gallbladder emptying, and intestinal transit time (the time for ingested substances to travel from mouth to anus).

Scores on the dyspepsia and constipation questionnaires were significantly better for those treated with carbonated water than for those who drank tap water. Eight of the ten people in the carbonated water group had marked improvement in dyspepsia scores at the end of the trial, two had no change and one worsened. In contrast, seven of eleven people in the tap water group had worsening of dyspepsia scores, and only four experienced improvement. Constipation scores improved for eight people and worsened for two after carbonated water treatment, while scores for five people improved and six worsened in the tap water group. Further evaluation revealed that carbonated water specifically decreased early stomach fullness and increased gallbladder emptying, while tap water did not.

Carbonated water has been used for centuries to treat digestive complaints, yet virtually no research exists to support its effectiveness. The carbonated water used in this trial not only had significantly more carbon dioxide than does tap water, but also was found to have much higher levels of minerals including sodium, potassium, sulfate, fluoride, chloride, magnesium, and calcium. Other studies have shown that both the bubbles of carbon dioxide and the presence of high levels of minerals can stimulate digestive function. Additional research is needed to determine whether this mineral-rich carbonated water would be more effective at relieving dyspepsia than would carbonated tap water. flavoredsparklingwater.com

Why do we need Sodium Ascorbate?

The GLO Gene is absent in many people, scientists believe that this happened around 60 million years ago. The absence of this gene makes us unable to biosynthesize specific enzyme L- gulonolactone oxidase. This is an end stage liver enzyme that bio-converts blood glucose to Ascorbate, this means our bodies cannot produce any Ascorbate. In the long term, a lack of Ascorbate causes our bones to dissolve and teeth to fall out in other words sub-clinical scurvy and a tendency to development of cancer.

Ascorbic Acid is produced in large quantities in almost all animals, e.g. 6 grams a day in a goat, or up to 100grams daily if the goat is stressed. But it is not Ascorbic Acid that our body requires, rather a SALT of Ascorbic Acid. A daily supplementation of Ascorbate several times a day is a simple way to make up for this genetic defect.

Ascorbate is also essential for the hydroxylation of the amino acid Proline which forms hydroxyproline - a major component of collagen. Collagen is an essential structural protein in the body accounting for around a quarter of all the protein in our bodies and is critical to the structural integrity of our bodies.

Linus Pauling PhD (Twice Nobel Laureate) stated "It is highly probable that most people in the world would only receive 1- 2% of the amounts of Ascorbate that would keep them in the best of health".

Robert F Cathcart MD, another medical pioneer who has had great success with Ascorbate, successfully treating over 25,000 patients with large doses, often as high as 150gms per day healing all kinds of chronic degenerative disease.

Dr Klenner UMD FCCP began his Ascorbate studies in the 40's and treated 30 or 40 patients a day in North Carolina until his death in 1984, treating many degenerative diseases. He also found that treating with Ascorbate during pregnancy resulted in a much healthier mom and baby. If a mother takes high dose of Ascorbate in addition to other measures such as folic acid and avoiding cigarettes and alcohol, she will deliver an extremely healthy baby and studies have shown the labour will be quicker and less painful. Giving the child 1 gram of Ascorbate per day up until the age of 10 will bypass all regular childhood diseases including measles, mumps, chicken pox etc as well as common airborne infections.

Pāpala kēpau or Umbrella catchbird tree

Nyctaginaceae (Four O'Clock family)

Indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands

Oʻahu (Cultivated)

The early Hawaiians used an adhesive gum from pāpala kēpau for repairing bowls.

The milky sap from pāpala kēpau (Pisonia spp.) was used for cuts. The cooked leaves were used to cure pāʻaoʻao (childhood disease with physical weakening) and for lepo paʻa (constipation).

Pāpala kēpau are truly fascinating plants with a sad, but interesting, cultural history. A sinistral use for the sticky fruit was to trap native birds. [6] The captured victims provided feathers for the strikingly colorful cloaks (capes), helmets, lei, images and kāhili. 'Pandanus odoratissimus' Ripe fruits fill the air with a pleasant aroma, much like flowers. The fruit is healthy and can be eaten raw or cooked. It is a major source of food in Micronesia, especially in the atolls. The fibrous nature of the fruit also serves as a natural dental floss. The tree's leaves are often used as flavoring for sweet dishes such as kaya jam, and are also said to have medicinal properties, the oil to cure headaches and the flowers to cure constipation.

The fibers on inner ends of dry keys are used as brushes for painting kapa/tapa. They also contain tasty seeds which are difficult to remove.

These ends of hala fruit are often strung to make leis.

In life, aside from when you're a kid, we don't really get to twist too much. In yoga, there are quite a lot of these poses because they are very cleansing and helpful for our internal organs. Ideally, my head should be facing towards the back but sometimes I like to twist the other way to give the otherside of my neck a stretch.

Additional research is needed to determine whether this mineral-rich carbonated water would be more effective at relieving dyspepsia than would carbonated tap water. flavoredcarbonatedwater.com

Hawaiian Names:

The name pāpala also is used for the native species of Charpentiera.

"Hawaiian Dictionaries" defines kēpau as "lead, pitch, tar, resin, pewter; gum, as on ripe breadfruit; any sticky juice, as of pāpala."

Birds such as 'ō'ō and mamo were plucked of their few moulting yellow feathers and set free to grow more for the next season. However, this was not the case with the 'i'iwi and 'apapane which were covered with red- or green-colored feathers and would not have survived the plucking. They were captured, plucked and eaten.

Etymology

The generic name Pisonia is named for William Piso (ca. 1611-1678), Dutch physician, pharmacist, botanist, and early writer on medicinal plants of Brazil.

Regarding the specific epithet "The Names of Plants" makes this comment:

"Brunonia, brunonianus -a -um, brunonis Smaethman’s* name to commemorate Robert Brown (vide infra) (Brunoniaceae) brunonianus -a -um, brunonis -is -e for Robert Brown FRS (1773–1858), English botanist."

Medicinally, early Hawaiians used the milky sap from pāpala kēpau (Pisonia spp.) was used for cuts. The cooked leaves were used to cure pāʻaoʻao (childhood disease with physical weakening) and for lepo paʻa (constipation).

They also used an adhesive gum from pāpala kēpau for repairing bowls.

Pictured Above: Indian Opo Curry made with opo squash.

Recipe for Indian Opo Curry

Ingredients:

1 Opo (cut into small cubes)

1 tomato (cut into small cubes)

2 Tbsps of clarified butter (pure Indian Ghee)

1/4 tsp Turmeric

2-4 curry leaves (purchase in Indian markets)

1 tsp cumin seeds

1/4 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp channa daal

2 tsps coriander/cilantro leaves

Salt to taste

In a vessel or dish, pour the ghee and heat it for a minute and add the cumin seeds, channa daal, mustard seeds, turmeric, and curry leaves. Once the seeds pop out or make noise then add the opo into the dish and mix it well with other ingredients and cook it for 5 minutes and then add the tomato and salt to taste. Stir it again and cook it for 10 minutes or until soft. In the end garnish it with the cilantro leaves.

2) General Info about the Opo Squash.

Opo is one of the best vegetables to be had all year around, especially in the summer as it's very light on the stomach and is easy to digest. In general any squash is a good source of fiber and it helps relieve constipation, flatulence and piles. Always have the Opo squash in the cooked form, raw Opo may be harmful for your stomach and intestines.

Opo is a long narrow variety of squash, very similar to zucchini in flavor, that is often considered to be of African decent, but common in southern Europe and Asia. Grown most often in warmer climates, this squash grows from 6 to 36 inches long and 3 to 12 inches in diameter. The outer skin can range in color from yellow to green while the inner flesh, which contains seeds, is firm textured and white in color. When young, the squash has a mild flavor, but as it matures the taste becomes increasingly bitter. When it is allowed to grow larger in size, it is often used as containers, thus the alternate name of "bottle gourd." It is a good squash for sautéing, stir-frying, or as an ingredient for soups and stews. It can be kept refrigerated for approximately 1 week.

In addition to bottle gourd, other names commonly referred to for this squash are: calabash, Italian edible gourd, long fruited gourd, long melon, long squash, peh poh, woo lo kua, hu lu gua, New Guinea bean, Tasmania bean, snake gourd, suzza melon, or zuzza. The name given to this squash in other countries include: yugao (Japanese), po gua (Cantonese), kwa kwa or hu gua (Chinese), upo (Filipino), cucuzzi or cucuzza (Italian), bau (Vietnamese), and dudhi or lauki (Indian).

Hayward community members completed the In Defense of Food Book-to-Action series with a celebration of fresh, seasonal food at a multi-ethnic community potluck at one of Hayward’s community treasures: the Hayward Community Gardens, located at 25051 Whitman (at Berry Avenue). The Hayward Community Gardens, in operation since 1977, have been featured in news articles and magazines, including most recently in the April 2011 issue of Sunset Magazine.

Michael Pollan encourages us to value the large community of relationships surrounding food: between plants and the soil, between the growers and the plants and animals they tend, between the cooks and the growers who supply the ingredients, and between the cooks and the people who come to the table to enjoy the meal. Community members celebrated delicious fresh and locally grown food and made new friendships by bringing food dishes they prepared at home to share with others. Community members shared information and recipes that reflected their native cultures and toured the gardens, which feature indigenous crops from around the world. Beautiful photographs of community garden crops were on display.

The In Defense of Food Book-to-Action series was supported in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian. Co-sponsored by the Hayward Public Library, the Hayward Farmers’ Market, Hayward Community Gardens, Friends of the Hayward Public Library, and the AAUW Hayward/Castro Valley Branch.
