Chelone glabra flowering along the Boone Fork creek near the Blue Ridge Parkway. They love moist soil along streams and can be found in wetlands. They get their name from the shape of the flowers resembling a turtle's head. This plant is the primary host of the Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly caterpillars and food plant to some other insects, as well as popular with browsing deer. It has many uses in folk medicine under the name of "Balmony." It is used as an appetite stimulant, laxative, liver tonic and to expel worms. An ointment is used as an itch-reliever. Native Americans used it to treat skin diseases and constipation and also believed it could prolong life, due to its resemblance to the long-lived turtles.

She was a German girl who married when very young. Her much older husband died leaving her with a family. She eventually became an anchoress and led of life of prayer, mortification and silence.
These fruits change from green to red to black, when they are mature. The bark was used a laxative brew to help with constipation that results from a heavy acorn diet. However, the black berries are quite bitter and did not make very good coffee.
Showing up to save us all at the Art Deco Weekend Art Festival were the “Born Again” folks. They are no stranger to South Beach on Saturdays but this was the first time I had seen them there on a Sunday. I have photographed them a couple times on Miami Beach and once in Miami to counter a rally against Judge Samuel Alito. This character seems to be the ringleader and is the most confrontational making statements like “all you homos and lesbians are going to hell” and going down a list of all the dead rock and rap stars that are now in hell like Elvis, Tupac Shakur, Maralyn Monroe, Biggie Smalls, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain just to name a few. Here Pastor “I’m gonna save your soul” declares Ocean Drive the “Highway to Hell”.

Cynometra cauliflora L. Fabaceae. CN: [Malay and regional vernacular names - Namnam, Namu-namu, Kopi anjing, Puki anjing, Anjing-anjing, Amphawa, Nang-ai, Hima, Katak puru, Salah nama]. The Latin name was given based on the local vernacular names but due to the obscenity the name "Salah nama" (literally translated as "Wrong name") was coined. Wonder how the weird obscene local names associating with dogs and even with frogs came about. Plant is indigenous to the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia. Fruits edible and tasted sour to sour-sweet with traces of astringent when fully ripen. Good for relieving constipation to kick the stubborn turds out. Flower and fruit cauliflory meaning flowers and fruits that develop on short lateral shoots arising from the main trunk and limbs.
[The fruits are kidney-shaped, 5-10cm long and 5cm wide. The pod does not split open readily, but a line is visible along the fruit and divides it into two. Winter means pulling out the best shawls, comforters, cardigans and sweaters. In some parts, you experience extreme winters and some, moderate ones. But winters make everything beautiful. Days get shorter and nights longer and thus our metabolism also needs a boost. Good nutrition and correct cooking methods will keep your body warm and healthy through the winters. Given below are some foods which one must try and incorporate for better health.
Sweet Potato: Available in plenty; Roasted, steamed, baked or in a curry form, this vegetable is always tasty. It is a powerhouse of nutrients, specially fibre and carbohydrates. Gives you instant energy and increases your satiety. Do try and add 1 – 2 pieces in your diet everyday.
Fresh Garlic and Turmeric: These two fresh spices are available in abundance between December and February. Fresh garlic and fresh turmeric boosts your immune system and in turn aids healthy digestion.
Green Vegetables like Sarson & Red Maath: freshly available in December and January. Sarson is a very common staple in the North. Add it with a dash of white butter and you will have a delicious healthy vegetable. Goes best with Makkai/ Corn roti. On the other hand laal or red math is a leafy vegetable common to the West. Goes well with Rice Bhakri or roti. Both these green vegetables are rich source of iron and trace nutrients.
Goondh/ Gum: Pure edible gum also known as Goondh in the common language. Healthy when the winters get harsh. It helps to generate body heat and also relives constipation. Goondh ladoos are very common in the west.
Carrots/ Shalgam (turnips): Available like the greens, best during the winter months. Take it as a vegetable or raw in the form of a salad. A good source of antioxidant, fibre and very low on calories. You can also make sweet halwas out of these two vegetables.
Til/ Sesame Seeds: black or white, both are rich in nutrients like zinc, selenium and iron. They give natural body heat and are best when served with coconut and jaggery. Roast some til and sprinkle as and when possible.
Apart from the above winter specific foods, here are a few tips to stay healthy and eat nutrititious this winter:
Do remember to add hot soups and broths, dals and rasams in your diet.
Do add herbs and spices like Tulsi, Mulethi, Pepper, and Cinnamon to boost your immunity. Dates, Mushrooms, Jaggery, and Honey also help in generating natural body heat and thus healthy digestion.
Keep doing yoga as and when possible to stay fit and active.
Hydrate enough – 3 – 4 litres of water daily.
Finally, remember winters are beautiful, but do remember to eat healthy to stay fit & beautiful! Ms. Malavika To know more visit www.yogagurusuneelsingh.com pic by Vijay Gautam Monty

Taken in my hometown :) We have a lot of these flowers here and I very like them.
Common chicory, is a bushy perennial herbaceous plant with blue, lavender, or occasionally white flowers. Various varieties are cultivated for salad leaves, chicons (blanched buds), or for roots (var. sativum), which are baked, ground, and used as a coffee substitute and additive. It is also grown as a forage crop for livestock. It lives as a wild plant on roadsides in its native Europe, and in North America and Australia, where it has become naturalized.
Chicory (especially the flower) was used as a treatment in Germany, and is recorded in many books as an ancient German treatment for everyday ailments. It is variously used as a tonic and as a treatment for gallstones, gastro-enteritis, sinus problems and cuts and bruises. (Howard M. 1987). Chicory contains inulin, which may help humans with weight loss, constipation, improving bowel function, and general health. In rats, it may increase calcium absorption and bone mineral density.
Latin name: Cichorium intybus
Polish name: cykoria podróżnik
I have lived with the side effects of Ehlers-Danlos for many years, with symptoms getting progressively worse. I have been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Chronic Pain Syndrome, severe Gastroparesis, Chronic Idiopathic Intestinal PseudoObstruction and Peripheral Neuropathy. I live with pain all over my body most of the time, abdominal pain all the time, excessive vomiting and severe constipation, around once every 3 weeks. I just recently had a J tube surgically put in a couple months ago, which resulted in spending an additional month in the hospital. Through my life debilitating illness I have found more support and love within the family. "Through all bad comes a Little Good!!"

ift.tt/1tiMCER... Nutritional deficiency is a common side effect of gluten sensitivity. Often times patients going on the diet fail to improve because of long term vitamin and mineral deficiencies caused by years of food induced gastrointestinal damage. The problem with this phenomenon is that many patients go gluten free and still continue to have health issues yet their doctor fails to properly evaluate and monitor nutritional status. Calcium deficiency is one of these more common nutritional deficiencies. Causes and Consequences of Calcium Deficiency Click on picture to enlarge... Low Calcium Levels Contribute to Disease There are many medical conditions linked to calcium deficiency. The following list are some of the more common symptoms and side effects: Early bone loss (osteopenia) Muscle spasms and cramps (especially night time calf cramping) Heart palpitations Depression Fatigue Joint pain High Blood pressure Hormone abnormalities Blood clotting problems Gum disease Headaches The above problems are often times medicated before a doctor performs the proper nutritional evaluation. Keep in mind that serum calcium levels are not an accurate representation of calcium stores within the body. Too Much Calcium Can Also Be a Problem Calcium is a very commonly used nutritional supplement. Many doctors instruct their female patients to take calcium as a preventative for bone loss. Without monitoring and checking calcium, taking too much can contribute to many problems. Therefore; it is not recommended to take excessive calcium without need. Some symptoms of too much calcium include: Confusion Fatigue Irritability Constipation Magnesium and iron loss Heart Arrhythmia Kidney damage Drugs That Interfere with Calcium There are a number of prescription medications that can interfere with calcium absorption or metabolism. It is not the single or short term use of medication that one has to worry about, but taking some of the following medications long term (6 months or greater) can interfere with this mineral. Examples include: Corticosteroids -- these are commonly used for control of pain and inflammation. Some steroids are used to treat chronic fatigue, chronic muscle pain, and inflammatory joint pain. Additionally, some steroids are used in the treatment of asthma. Antacid medications -- these drugs are commonly used to treat gastric reflux, heartburn, and indigestion. Examples include Nexium, Tagamet, Tums, and Rolaids. These prescription and over the counter medications suppress and interfere with stomach acid production. Calcium requires acid to be absorbed properly. Sometimes people take Tums with calcium to as a calcium supplement. I have had patients whose doctors actually recommended this! Bad advice -- Don't take antacids for a source of dietary calcium. Foods High In Calcium Despite popular belief, milk and dairy products are not a necessity for calcium in the diet. Foods rich in calcium are kale, broccoli, turnip greens, mustard greens, collards, figs, salmon, sardines, arugula, spinach, kelp, bone marrow and broth, and citrus fruits. High Quality Gluten Free Calcium When you have the need for calcium supplementation, you have to be careful not to take excessive calcium without magnesium, because doing so can contribute to magnesium deficiency. Additionally, it is important to ensure that your vitamin D levels are normal as calcium absorption is low when vitamin D is deficient. Many supplements have been found to contain gluten cross contamination.
Bathrooms are places to think, places to hide.
I don't feel comfortable in mine anymore.
Construction workers are here from 8 am to 5 pm every day during the week. When the roof comes off and the frame goes up, they'll be here every day, all week & weekend long all day and part of the night.
I haven't been able to maintain regular bowel movements since the work on the house started. Which is really awkward, considering I have intestinal issues, take medication, and am generally uncomfortable to begin with. Not having a movement for 5 days straight is hell.
All of this is more than just construction, it's a physical and psychological uprooting.
Yet I laugh, because the workers laugh at each other, and I'm part of -this- process, part of their daily life now too.
Damn bathrooms. Damn poop. Damn it.

The central shield has been placed in the indent of a previous Trinity, curiously it is the Skipwith arms rather than Heneage. On either side are Heneage quartering Preston, and Heneage quartering Preston impaling Skipwith which is also on their tabards.
Originally a servant of Wolsey who advanced him to the Privey Chamber, Thomas Heneage also had the dubious privilege as Groom of the Stool 1536-1546 of attending the King whenever he used the close stool, his duties were to provide him with a flannel "to wipe his nether end" and then summon a Yeoman of the Chamber to empty and clean the pot. He was witness to the Kings chronic constipation and his efforts to relieve it. and was present when one night in 1539 the King took a laxative "he slept until 2 of the clock in the morning and then rose to go to the stool, which by working of the pills had a very fair siege" -- Perhaps too much information!! Being close to the king in his intimate moments also meant he could suggest favours for himself and friends who would reward him to ask - Perhaps too much information!! - Hainton church Lincolnshire
