Life on the factory floor at Magrathea was made easier when the Aliens discovered caterpillar tracks. Although driven by round wheels, these wheels never touched the floor and so the heresy of round wheels was avoided. Naturally the tracks had to be configured into square shapes.

Fortunately the Vehicle Design department of Llwyngwril Systems, famed for building sensible and reliable machines, was on hand to help. They soon came up with a sturdy personal transporter, which met the religious requirements of its driver. The result can be seen in this ancient archive footage.

Shuttleworth Collection Lysander IIIA at Duxford. The aircraft is painted in overall black and configured as an S.D. “special duties” variant as used for clandestine night missions into occupied France during WWII. Such missions included transporting SOE agents into occupied territory, dropping supplies for the French resistance and retrieving aircrew who had managed to evade capture.

This particular aircraft was built in Canada in 1942 and used as a target tug. It was acquired for the Shuttleworth Collection in 1998 and the following year was painted in the markings of Lysander III S.D V9367 operating with 161 RAF Squadron from RAF Tempsford in 1942. This included the fitting a dummy 150 gallon underbelly fuel tank and fixed ladder.

For 1:6 scale airport diorama I am making

The chairs can be configured in multiple ways. Initially, I was doing a bench of 4, but decided to do it this way so I could use the same seats for airplane seating. Ideas from My Froggy Stuff. I made my chairs a little differently than hers, but she is the mastermind here.

I plan to make at least 1 more set of 2. I started them tonight, but ran out of steam.

I think my dolls will get a lot of use out of this dio. If I keep the counter and these chairs handy, it is a neutral space that any doll could pose in. Lots of dolls will get to travel now.

The James Webb Space Telescope, configured for flight, was moved from the cleanroom to the payload preparation facility for fuelling at Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana on 11–12 November 2021.

Webb will be loaded with propellants before being mounted on top of the rocket and then encapsulated by the Ariane 5 fairing.

Webb will be the largest, most powerful telescope ever launched into space. As part of an international collaboration agreement, ESA is providing the telescope’s launch service using the Ariane 5 launch vehicle. Working with partners, ESA was responsible for the development and qualification of Ariane 5 adaptations for the Webb mission and for the procurement of the launch service by Arianespace.

Webb is an international partnership between NASA, ESA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

Find out more about Webb in ESA’s launch kit and interactive brochure.

A cloud is a visible mass of droplets or frozen crystals floating in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or another planetary body. A cloud is also a visible mass attracted by gravity (clouds can also occur as masses of material in interstellar space, where they are called interstellar clouds and nebulae.) The branch of meteorology in which clouds are studied is nephology or cloud physics.

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Leiden, Center, Lammermarkt Parking (JHK), Cars (uncut)

The Lammermarkt parking (JHK architects 2017) can accomadate 525 cars. It’depth is 22m and there are 7 levels, configured in a spiral.

This is what the JHK wrote about the facility “Although parking is not a goal in itself, parking in parking garage Lammermarkt is an experience in itself. The typology of the round parking garage means that all floors are spatially connected to each other. Although the depth is emphasized and visible, this spaciousness forms the basis for a socially safe environment that feels pleasant and comfortable. The light-filled parking garage excels in functionality and comfort. The routing is clear, the parking spaces are wide and the stairs and elevators are easily found. There is no intersecting traffic and traffic with one-way traffic is maximal.

In a spiral, the motorist drives down and automatically comes across an empty parking space. There is therefore no search traffic. A timeline on the footpaths guides the pedestrian to the lifts and the stairwell. You can pocket or rise one floor per century. Important moments from the century in question are depicted on the back wall of the garage, where half a floor has been created for a work of art that takes the visitor into Leiden's history. These illustrations by graphic designer Tom van der Heiden are not only beautifully narrative but also contribute to the recognisability and orientation in the garage. They help in retrieving the car. In the lift hall the artworks are once again explained with references to places in the contemporary city that can be visited. As a pedestrian you leave the parking garage through a round pavilion on the ground level. By means of an open staircase, a generous connection is made with the administration space and the parking floor on the first floor below ground level. The city of Leiden and the De Valk windmill leave the car park as a result of the curved and five-meter high glass façade.” (Source: JHK architecten)

So art and colours are used effectively again, like in the Kruisplein garage in Rotterdam here but in a somewhat minimalist way.
